.....but I picked up a Ruger Sp101 .357 with a 2 inch barrel. That sucker is a shooter!! I got it from a member here and he said it had a trigger job. I will be keeping this one for a while. I have owned Ruger M77's, 22 pistols, 10/22's, mini 14's and mini 30's but this is my first revolver. I'm not sure how much the trigger job helped it but I'm glad I bought it.
I'm not big on their semi's but the make great wheel guns.

They are stout to be sure and Ruger has a great warranty.
Nice thing-if you have a Blackhawk in the glovebox and get a flat you always have a jack handle.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I have owned a Blackhawk 45LC before. The single action was not my cup of tea. It was a good shooter though. I had Roadside assitance so I never found out what kind of jack handle it was![ROFL1]
I love the Ruger revolvers. Pistol whipping someone with one of those is just so much more satisfying than hitting them with a Glock. [Awesom]

They are stout wheelguns, but imho the SP101 is too heavy for daily concealed carry, and that's what they were made for. A much better and more comfortable sixgun along those lines is an older parkarized Colt Agent. Granted the Agent is a .38, but most of us (I think) would load the SP101 with .38 +Ps anyway and not shoot it that often. Comfort is the key in a carry gun, imho- or you won't take it with you.

Sorry- that isn't really the direction the thread was supposed to go!! Glad you're happy with the Ruger, they probably do make a great jackhandle when empty!!!
I think when i get my .44 it will most likely be a ruger but the ported trackers look nice too.

If I were to need a back-country revolver and wanted the 44 magnum, it would definitely be a Ruger. Redhawk 5.5, Alaskan or a 4 3/4 stainless Super Blackhawk. No question.[Weight]

I have a S&W Airlight 38 that shoots plus p. You are right, it is more comfortable but I would not hesitate to carry the Ruger. I have carried 1911's, 44 mags and full sized 9mm's. I think if you match your activities along with your carry, you can carry many different weapons comfortably. I open carry very often and the Sp101 would be a good looker and not that bad with the right holster.
Edit-If I'm carrying whatever, it is usually loaded with the max performing ammo I can find and afford. It only makes sense.

You want a good-looking holster? Go to El Paso Saddlery on the web. Super-cool concealed carry holsters that you can get floral carved!!! They are the shit. As for "carry" loads- I'm pretty comfy with my .38 Hydra-Shoks!! I reckon they'll do the job.
I have and love my Super Redhawk. And I am currently in the market for a good deal on a Super Blackhawk. I have found that rugers will take the hottest load you can put in them, and if it could talk it would laugh and say is that all you got?

I have the SP101 with the two inch barrel and a GP100 with a four inch barrel....both are great guns. I did a bit of work on each, reprofiled those sharp edges on the trigger and did some light stoning on the internal, but since then they've been great.
One of the few guns I have that draws blood...I like that. Nothing but a spring-kit and range time to smooth er' out...
