One would hope they would be on the side of the 2nd but I think if their heroes Reid and Polosi and Obama said that to best serve the nation we need to give up the 2nd and sell all arms in order to help extend welfare they would be all over it.

I have admit I agree nynco on a lot of stuff. My personal opinion is that the Chicago school of voodoo economics and the deregulation mania has essentially killed capitalism in the US. It might not be totally dead yet but it smells pretty bad. The replacement is probably some form of crony capitalism, like Russia but more polite. The poor and vanishing middle class can eat the crumbs from the tables of the oligarchs, chiefly banksters.

When I read people describe Obama as a Marxist I laugh. He continued the policy of Bush/Paulson of 'Let not a billionaire suffer; everybody else can go to hell.' All he's done is expand bailouts for the super wealthy over 10 times through the Fed. I can't take anybody who uses the word 'RINO' seriously.

As for the 2nd, there is no need to repeal it. As people move into urban areas they lose contact with gun culture and kids are raised never even handling a gun. Out in rural areas gun culture is fine but that is a smaller & smaller part of the population. In the Denver area, what proportion of the population belong to gun clubs? The public ranges are almost an argument for gun control. There are too many bums and retards out there being dangerous and turning a nice site into a dump.

Steve

Ronin13
07-27-2011, 09:34
I'm with Steve on this... I have a lot of friends in Denver who grew up there and have never owned a gun. We get to talking an they are interested in guns for sure, but I fear they could care less if they were legal or not. Well, let's just hope that they don't start joining in when people start calling a little louder for our guns to be taken away.

I think this is real important. These same failed ideas were in play before the first great depression too. So unless we have another guy like an FDR (not totally the same) are going to become a fascist oligarchy state as described above. You all know there is something wrong. Just most people are too stubborn to learn from mistakes.

Basically the best way to explain the problem is through the game of Monopoly. Ever play it to the end? What happens? The game ends and there is no free market left. Just a king or an oligarch.

Alright time for me to hillbilly up. I know people such as yourself hate Nascar and thats fine, it can be boring. I'm a gearhead through and through and unless youve stood in the pits, on the wall at a race don't bash it. It takes immense skill to drive at 180+, 2 inches from a bumper in front and behind you, on a wall that would blow your mind standing at the bottom of it, like Bristol.

I feel ya, and I'm no nascar freak. But I do have tons of respect for them after a few races up close, tv makes it look so dumb and boring...agreed. And as far as the best drivers out there and combo of visually entertaining to watch, it goes hands down to rally drivers. Live in Germany for a while and you grow to appreciate German engineering. I remember driving my VR6 Golf nearly bouncing off the rev limiter for 4 or 5 hours straight on my way to snowboard. Most American muscle would die from that in no time. How do I know........ because redneck idiots use to bring the bitchin camaro with them on their tours and within 6 months of trying to fly down the auto bahn at top speed....... BOOM.

Now adays I just dream of finding a small SUV with a little Turbo diesel engine. Is it too much to ask for to have a small TDi and 50 mpg?

Zundfolge
07-27-2011, 10:39
Its not that you don't like NASCAR (hell I find it boring) its the fact that leftist elitists look down on people who DO like NASCAR. THAT's what bugs me (especially when it comes from people who make it a point to be all holier than thou about open mindedness and tolerance).

As for an SUV with a little Turbo Diesel ... there's the first thing that you and I agree completely on. In fact if I find myself with a little money I'd LOVE to find an old Willys Jeep (CJ2A, CJ2B or CJ3A) and stuff a TDi motor in it (here's some guys (http://www.hpamotorsport.com/tdijeep.htm)that did it with a YJ).

I used to turn a wrench on German cars for a living. All of the sudden the lightbulb goes on (CF of course) and you understand my handle. So I also agree with you about the appreciation of German engineering.

Zundfolge.... perfect name for the forum. (firing order). I speak bastard German well enough to not speak English all the time when I was there.

As to NASCAR.... we all have opinions and I am an Un PC jerk sometimes. One of my faults. I prefer to think I have a "South Park" sense of humor and sensibility.

As to why there are no Tdi SUVs.... WTF? VW is even retarded there. Who the hell wants a V10 Tdi. Defeats the whole damn purpose. I just want a 4 cylinder Tdi smaller SUV with seats that fold back to sleep on. Best part is with all that torque I could still tow medium size things. :D

Lets go into business building franken versions. There is a market, I know it.

P.S. My golf was an 85 body.... so how did it get a VR6? ;)

Seen several MKII Golfs with VR6 motors over the years.

Coolest thing I've seen is a MKI GTI with a VR6 with a heavily modified G-Lader system on it. Would smoke most V8 cars out there (but boy was torque-steer a bitch).

Would love to have one of those race prepped Touaregs they take to Dakar (they're TDi's ... TDi's from HELL)

As for why there are no Diesel SUVs ... VW makes them (as does Merc, Toyota, Nissan, Honda and others) BUT US Government screws them on import, so they don't ship them here.

Yeah it was not too hard to get in there. But I did mine a long time before it became common. Back around 97. When I was done, only the dome light was stock. All wires from other cars. It was an on going never ending money pit project if you know what I mean. But in the end, I even put a Golf 3 dash completely in. That was a bitch. But all the duct work worked like stock.

As to the Gov screwing them. I don't doubt they do somehow. But I think that is a lie....... because they have TDi Jettas. But in my opinion the import rules are total BULLSHIT. Mainly because I want to import a RS2 and can't easily.

I feel ya, and I'm no nascar freak. But I do have tons of respect for them after a few races up close, tv makes it look so dumb and boring...agreed. And as far as the best drivers out there and combo of visually entertaining to watch, it goes hands down to rally drivers. I worked on a small Subaru team when I was an Audi mechanic years ago and it was a friggin blast. On a side note, worst job in the world would be a rally navigator...f that. :)

I agree that Nascar is not easy, but by far not the hardest motorsport out there. Try taking a finely tuned machine that will do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds and taking around a track... sometimes at speeds beyond 150MPH... now take that same theme and put it on a DIRT road... no thanks. I've done Auto-Cross and Super-sport MC track days and that is not easy stuff right there. I've also driven on a superspeedway style track and although not as easy as normal road driving, it's really not that hard, but I'm sure with 20 other cars and speeds up to 190MPH it would be tougher.

Those timing chains can be a real biootch. Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about, I am a true Audi enthusiast and love your choice. One time only I rode in a very lightly modified original 5cyl turbo quattro, amazing machine.

Yeah, I have some big hands too and I remember after doing a complete wiring harness job (rodents) on a TT it was time to do something else. My hands looked like I just took first place somewhere in a bareknuckle boxing tourney.

My dream is to somehow afford to chop a UR quattro into a Sport Quattro. But I need to hit the lottery first. Which I need to buy a ticket to do that, so there is a flaw in that plan. But if you look through that site I posted you will find guys doing that crazy stuff on there. Pure car porn...

I turned wrenches on Audis for a few years and started selling them after that at the same dealer. I made mucho more money when the economy was rolling, but after the economy came to a screeching halt I reevaluated. Out in AZ there are no blue laws, so I worked 7 days a week, usually 28 days on and 3 days off. It was crazy busy, I made really good money but when you broke it down it was more like .50c an hour. I figured that there were different ways to make a buck. So now I am an account manager in the growth division at a tech company in the DTC. The hours are great, the money is comparable, but I can't stand sitting in this desk all day so I have to talk to you goons all day. [LOL] I kid I kid, you guys keep me sane.

On a side note ny, have you seen the Audi Quattro concept coming out that pays some homage to the old Quattros?

Since you guys are Audi heads, and I hold no grudge or ill will against you, is it fair to say that the battle of the German lux-sport cars is pretty neck and neck right now between Audi, BMW and MB? I have a BMW, my very first and after owning it a year it will not be my last, and the brand could be the only for me from now on... but it seems like Audi is on a roll, then BMW is revamping their 3 and 1 series, and here comes MB rolling out AMG models that kill previous editions and the new C Class seems to be right on par with the competition (my dad has the C300 Sport and loves it!). I can only assume that it's just a matter of time before Chrysler, Ford and GM won't be able to even hold a candle. Too bad, I used to like Mopar.

In my opinion Audi is on top for being the best car for the money right now. Which each year they get better and better. I have nothing against Beemers. They are great cars too.

I use to own a 535 Alpina (think the same as an M Series but only in Europe) http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lk14w0d4Xa1qi9ekzo1_500.jpg

Really I would take a Beemer over a MB anyday and an Audi over a Beemer only because I love AWD. But I do miss powering out of turns with RWD like my old Alpina did. I only sold that after parts started breaking and I got it caught in a snow drift.

As to the most current. I have not been too up to date, so take some of my words with that grain of salt. I just keep on dreaming someone will bring a real Tdi car here.

I am an Audi head for a few reasons. I went to school specifically for Audi, they kind of make you become one :). The fit and finish on an Audi is unrivaled, meaning they know how to engineer a car down to the smallest of details (not that bimmer and mb dont). And frankly, I've driven M3's, M5's, M6's, AMG's out the ass (actually the only car I ever got written up in, story maybe coming) and to me, in my opinion, nothing stacks up to an RS product from Audi. It may not be the fastest in a straight line or something like that, but its the car you walk away from and look back at wanting to drive again. The German shootout will never have a winner, the three big brands are always at the forefront of new and exciting automotive technology. I used to say Audi had a leg up because of Quattro in climates like ours, but now that BMW has Xdrive on just about every model it is much more of a level playing field. To me Audi and BMW are very close and they are #1 and 2. MB I would put in third for a few reasons, they go one of two ways. Either a muscle car in sheeps clothes (AMG) or an old man car. They don't use as much tech as say Audi or BMW would in sports car from them. They have always stuffed giant motors in smaller classes and then they don't even offer you a manual, and I'm a sports car purist. If it has an M, S, RS or AMG and you have a pair, get a stick.

The Tdi stuff is coming, and keep in mind 'Tdi' refers to Audi/VW only, thats their proprietary technology term. We got to see some amazing badass tdi motors in training that were in European models only. Audi has a production plan for the worlds most efficient diesel supercar in an upcoming R8 body. It is a biturbo 12cyl diesel producing 850lb/ft of torque and getting around 20mpg city :), come get some.

VW=tired, yesteryears news... but an R8 biturbo diesel... wow! Daddy likes! Although BMW is trying to expand their 3-Series d to the US market more.. like the new 2012 335xd AWD diesel. I think America is waaay behind on the diesel market outside of trucks, and Europe seems to know what's up. Why can't we subscribe to this better over here? The new Audi RS4TDI I heard about is pretty sweet sounding and I also heard a little rumor that Audi wants to try out the S8 in a TDI model (the S8 is the only car I would cheat on Beemer with). I agree with you Uber, Audi and BMW are the leaders of the pack. If I had my way I'd have enough to have a Dinan M3TT, Audi S8, X5M and that new Quattro Concept. But that would cost me over $500K and I doubt I'll ever be able to accomplish that.

Ya VW is meh...but they do own Audi, Lambo, Skoda, Seat, Bentley etc.

America is way behind on the diesel, the European diesel motors are too finely tuned to run our sulfur rich diesel. Ya, the S8 is just pure sex...not as fast as an Alpina B7 I drove, but it shites all over it everywhere else. I haven't seen too many too twin turbo M3's, but I did ride in this one :) with a blower making about 530 to the pavement. Put it this way, to end the debate...there is something about driving a M3 that no other car can do and there is something about driving an RS4 that no other car can do, ya know? They both kick ass in a different way.

I used to work on all makes and models of vehicles. I personally would never own a European car. They are all garbage. Difficult to work on, parts are way overpriced, and they leak from everywhere when they get a little older. The Germans are very good at lying (I mean marketing) a product. They are also so over engineered you have to be an engineer to understand them. Keeping something simple is not in their vocabulary.

So is a Veyron then at 1.5million :), Volkswagen trans and VR crankshaft technology. E46's are great cars, but the M54 is far from the best engine ever built, they need crank bearings every 65k because the crank walks. Best 'engine' ever built to hit our shores in modern times? 2JZ-GTE. Inline 6, 3.0L, supports 800wheel hp on stock internals with a stock trans, same Getrag tranny actually.

Erm, I'm pretty sure both political parties support "Free Trade" in pretty much the same fashion as which someone might be vegan: because their girlfriend is.

That is to say, powerful business interests support "Free Trade" because it lets them make shit in China for $92.45 delivered to Long Beach and sell it here for $399.99.

And because they pretty much wine, dine, and finance the shitfest we call Washington, they get their way. Is it good or is it bad? I guess that depends on if you're the one driving a Ferrari or not.

In the end, protectionism is a zero-sum game; we tariff their imports, their tariff our exports and steal our intellectual property to manufacture locally. In a world with internet commerce between countries, and the flow of manpower via the internet (think Indian call centers and Philippine programmer-sweat-shops) protectionism seems like naive wishful thinking.

It was common for them to start to get a tick, almost like a rod knock if you've heard that, but very faint. And what would happen is the crank would begin to walk and eat at the crank bearings slowly. Not that they are a bad car, they are phenomenal. Again not the fastest by any means, but a blast to drive. But that just seemed like a typical bimmer fanboy comment I had to address from an Audi fanboy. Naw, its actually a less glamorous problem; Bureaucratic Myopia.

Since the dawn of time Gasoline went in passenger cars and Diesel went in heavy trucks ... the rules, regulations and other bureaucratic machinations are built on this assumption and thus bollocks it all up when it comes to the paperwork.

Also, the American car buying public had completely rejected the idea of Diesel cars until recently.

And I just did a quick google search and found an E46 M3 on a forum having crankwalk happen at a mere 56k on the odo, first search. Did you go through BMW STEP or were you a tech before that?

The S54 engine? Different beast. And one listing on the internet is does not a systemic problem make. I have heard of absolutely no issue like that with either the M52 or the M54 engine. Both of which are bullet proof. Not while at the dealership and not afterwords. Strangely enough the only one I can find reference to online is an E36. And if you read a bit further on that one you can see he bought it at 56K and now it has over 100K and is having issues. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1664040 If this happened every 65K there would be more then just one reference online.

And yes I am a STEP child.

ETA: And yes there was an issue with the S54 from 2001 till 2003 (SIB 11 04 04). But that is not the M54 engine.

Listen Yoda [LOL](see red)

I don't know what you know about BMW, because I don't have the specific BMW training you did, nor did I work on BMW day to day. I was regurgitating 'stories' I'd heard from my BMW guys working on E46 M3's in one of the largest volume BMW sales and service dealerships in the country. I doubt it happened EVERY 65k, but you know how techs are right, we see the same problem twice and its a pos. So take my comments as a mere effort at stirring the BMW pot, since I get it so frequently from your side of the table too. [Beer]

Systemic problem one listing makes not. That format maybe.

Not sure 500k would buy it BG, maybe a good downpayment.

That one's $575K. Close enough. Plenty of King Airs under 500, too.

They've got long enough legs to get me just about anywhere and they'll haul the Harley.

Exactly!

Its like the Porsche version of the Ferrari Dino.
Both are Pininfarina designs.

Whats funny about the Dino is that its looked down on by Ferrari collectors as "a glorified Fiat and not a real Ferrari" (much like my Porsche 914 is "a glorified VW and not a real Porsche" ... the 904 is the predecessor to the 914).

There are body kits for the 914 to make it look 904ish ... but they never look right.

I will say this about MB, Audi and BMW- fixing can be very very very costly. And not sure about Audi, but BMW and MB have a great extortion plan with their vehicles. MB has a counter telling you when you need service. You go over and it beeps at you every time you start your car and gets very annoying. So can you just go get an oil change and have your mechanic reset it for you? Nope! You have to go to a MB service center and it ends up costing like $200 for the "Service" (nice way of putting sodomizing) and only they can reset the counter. But what's included in this service? Change oil, replace oil filter, replace air filter, replace cabin filter, check fluids, check brakes, check tire pressure, wash car, clean interior, reset service indicator. Hmm, for $200 that's one expensive oil change- Jiffy Lube does the exact same thing for around half as much (because the C300- the car I had to take for service- takes 9qts of full synthetic oil and oil filter is expensive too).
Now, BMW, the issue I have is when the brakes are worn and need replacing you have to do the full on rotors, calipers, and pads replacement because they all wear out at the same time. First brake service I've ever had to get on my car wound up costing $850! It was either that or not be able to stop because my mechanic said I had about 400mi left on the brakes. The money we spend on the things we love.

Side note: all this airplane talk, I want $3M, $2M to buy this:
http://withfriendship.com/images/h/39521/UH-1-Iroquois-picture.jpg
and $1M to learn how to fly it.

Non dealerships can reset the service indicator.

ETA: Yes on the German cars you have to replace pads, rotors and wear sensor. Calipers not so much. But that is not just on the German cars these days, all of them are going this direction.

I didn't pay shit for service on my Audi...complimentary for 4 years. Plus, the service schedule is 20k miles. Most other new cars, 5k miles. So you have to pay for service 4 times on other cars for every one time on the Audi after the 4 year mark...that pretty much evens out the "expensive" service.

Lets say in 5 years you drive the Audi 65k miles. So you paid for exactly ONE service in that time.

How many times did you have to pay for service on the other car when it reaches 65k? 13.

Not a bad deal I'd say.

Before tmleader gets his jollies on this one lol, I have to say that Audi USED TO have complimentary service as you mentioned. They did away with it a while back, I remember because I was selling them at the time and BMW had their way with us. Now BMW is giving the free maintenance for a few years, but as with any manufacturer not on wear and tear stuff...brakes, tires...yada yada.

I no longer have it and purchased it in 2005. I din't know they went away with the free service. My point remains even if a little outdated...I didn't pay anything in the 5 years I owned it, suckas. [Weight] ;)

Only tires are not covered. Really fucks with the independents. Everything from the front bumper to the back is covered. That includes brakes and oil changes.

Seriously, are you trolling me on this stuff or what?[Bang]

I don't know how the coverage is under Audi or MB, though I had not heard there was maintenance coverage with MB yet.

How the hell am I trolling you, you're a BMW guy, I thought you would have known Audi did away with the free service and would have pointed that out since we were talking bmw v audi. Audi made you pay for the brakes and tires even during the comp maintenance. Also notice the smiley faces, leading one to believe the comment was made in jest. Hardly trolling buddy, relax, breathe easy I already told you BMW rules.

Gosh I really wish I could love brand new cars and enjoy stuff like that, but for one, until next year's model I couldn't stand the style choice for the front that BMW went with, that's why I got myself an '05. Okay, so that's not the whole reason, I can't afford a $35,000 car.
But one fun toy I'd love to have if I could afford it is the 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe (and yes that's the name, because although no one remembers it, BMW is reluctant to give anything the M1 name).

I agree dude, the 1M is nasty...I drove just the 135 once and it blew my mind, I can't imagine this little monster. Here's a pic from the auto show I took, thought it looked just plain nasty.
