In a statement late Tuesday, the Mexican military said the troops "unintentionally" crossed over the bridge while they were carrying out reconnaissance on the border.
Unintentionally my ass. Don't cross the big f*cking river... how is that something you "unintentionally" f*ck up.

IIRC, armed troops crossing into our country without our govt's approval is an invasion and is grounds for war.

Shoot back? They were rounded up and tossed back by the BP fer f**k's sake.

Article says:
"They were processed according to protocols, and they were released and returned to Mexico without incident or charges," he added, declining to say whether the troops were armed."

This isn't the first time they've done this (Mexican troops crossing our border).
A friendly "you can have your guys back, better luck next time" is not going to deter them from crossing yet again. They aren't doing this unintentionally. There's a reason that they want to cross our border, and its not a good one.

And you think that means they weren't?

You're the only one who said they were.

1. They're troops. On a recon patrol. I can't wrap my head around the idea that they weren't armed.
2. "Declining to comment" is what someone does when they don't want to admit something, but know that lying about it would be just as bad if caught. If they were unarmed, they'd say they were unarmed.

I think that we are getting close to the time where we will have to start "shooting back" regularly. As our economy accelerates toward destruction more nations will began testing our perimeter defenses.

What do we gain by going to war with Mexico?

Mexico...

Send them back don't escalate.

It's what I was gettin' at; why waste the .mil's time when a much smaller agency can handle it in their sleep?

The real question is if they were just escorting a load of drugs north, or instead meeting up with BATFE to take delivery of some new toys.

I read an excellent book once called The Next War by Casper Weinberger that addressed the chance of going to war with Mexico. To put things into context, the book was written based on actual possible scenarios drafted by the CIA and department of defense that are presented to every president. Apparently the CIA believed that war with Mexico was imminent in the future based on the drug war and the immigration problems and if I recall it was deemed to be a very bloody conflict for both sides.

One may think that we can just steam roll over the Mexicans in a battle but they are quite entrenched and very good at gorilla warfare. One must also be fully aware of the Mexican population in our country (not to mention the Hispanic/Chicano populations AND the large number of Hispanics/Chicano's in our military) - this could be the toughest battle of all with internal dissidence and the possibility of a civil war.

So the question any diplomat or politician must ask is "is it worth it for a few troops who stumbled into our country?".

Wow, that's cool. Where are you hoping to move to? Although just protecting the Colorado border would be a welcome sight!

Wish I could do just that. But I'd probably be held by Hickyshitter saying "who are we going to give subsidized healthcare and education to?"

My hiring letter said Tucson sector, where some real stuff is going down. That is subject to change though. I'm excited have some buddies down there they love it.

Woah, busy area right there! My dad's cousin lives south of Tucson (near Nogales) and he has a gun by every entrance to his house, and always carries one on his hip. He makes a call to BP about once a day, sometimes more. The big problem is not just the illegals coming in almost unconfronted (BP is vastly undermanned and has just too much territory to cover), but the trash left behind, and the fact that residents near the border are prohibited from shooting unless there is a real viable threat... one local cop said "The rules are like Top Gun's ROE- 'Do not fire until fire upon.'"

Total BS. Yeah the most sickening part is the massive cuts the BP are receiving. Mine is the last hiring class for the foreseeable future. They haven't even reopened testing since March. The process of getting in is getting harder and the need for more agents is getting greater. Kinda pisses me off.

Sounds like a probe to me. Next time, lock them up and confiscate all of their equipment.

Grounds for war? Nah. But seems to me Mexico should be a little pissed at the US.gov for giving(buying) all their criminals guns to kill their police with...

Used to live in the same neck-of-the-woods in a little town called Benson.
