Good morning.

I recently picked up a G27 for a hiking only gun. I carry a 9 or 45 for everything else. This would be for Colorado hiking as well (when in big bear country I have a .44 mag)

What ammo would you recommend?

Keep in mind its a short barrel, and would be used for mtn lion, bear, two legged pest (most likely will never be shot for anything but target practice).

I was thinking 155 grn Gold Dot. What do you all recommend?

Winchester Ranger-T has been my choice for carry ammo in the big three calibers.

I use Speer Gold Dots in 180 grain or Winchester Ranger 155 grain. Never had to use either of them so not sure what would really happen.

Everything I read online suggest that penetration is key when it comes to bear defense, given that they have thicker hides and are generally tougher than two legged predators. That said, the Doubletap 200 grain hard cast ammo mentioned previously would seem like the way to go.

Not having any real experience in that area, however, I can only speculate. I used to carry a Glock 27 when hiking or backpacking, and at the time I loaded it with Buffalo Bore 180 grain fmjs. These days, I carry a Ruger sp101 loaded with Buffalo Bore 180 grain hard cast rounds, and those suckers definitely penetrate.

The DT ammo in the 200 gr round is what I use in my glock 20 if I cant get to my Rifle for bears, Or a nice hot 44 magnum load in my Super Redhawk
