For those of you that shoot IDPA, does knowing where you stack up against other shooters matter to you?

For example, would you like to know that you were the 2nd Place Sharpshooter in Stock Service Pistol?

We can add it to the results if the majority wants it.

I dropped them when I took over stats at Pueblo as it was just one more thing to track and not many really want to shoot the classifier/get classified.

One of the complaints we got from the last state match was the fact that we did *NOT* recognize the different classes, only divisions. We just gave plaques to the top shooters in each division, in order of finish. This was an attempt to not encourage sandbagging, or shooting the classifier below your true ability just so you can win a plaque at a match.

Thanks for taking the time to vote. If you can, also post a reply below or email me or any other board member with your thoughts.

I voted assuming you mean the official (whatever that means) IDPA sanctioned state match. For the monthly shoots at CCCSC or Publo I don't care.

The poll isnt really for any one match, just me as a stats geek trying to figure out what people want.

The biggest problem I see with monthly matches is if 16 people shoot SSP, maybe only 3 or 4 might have a classification. That or they havent shot the classifier in years and have got a lot better. A lazy-mans sandbag... It gets worse in the other divisions.

As best I can remember, someone will correct me if I am wrong here, you MUST be classified to shoot in a Sanctioned Match such as the 2007 State Match thats in the planning phases.

I remember running the classifier for 4 months straight (as a side match)in Pueblo just to get people classified before the last state match.

It's not deliberate sandbagging since I'm still more than a few seconds shy of moving up the scale but I've definitely improved since the last classifier I shot in January of this year (in Houston on a business trip - coincidental timing).

Doesn't matter with me. Sounds like extra work for the monthly matches.

Seeing how I stack up against people in the same class isn't that important to me for local matches.
If we hold a state match, we probably should do it for that event. More awards mean more happy people which means repeat business.

Well. Over 150 views and only 3 people responded and 6 more voted.

Guess it isnt a big deal after all.

Sounds like I will add them to the results if I feel like it.

Patti read this thread and said it didn't matter cuz I have no class anyway [?]

I would say add them Tom. Unless it is a process that takes too much time. Maybe it would motivate the people that are not classified to get classified especially if they want to shoot a bigger match.

I have been traveling alot but I hope to come shoot with all you folks soon
