Well its time to put up or shut up. Take this this test http://www.blogthings.com/howliberalorconservativeareyouquiz/ to see where you stand.

I'll go first:

You Are 55% Conservative, 45% Liberal
Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Ok I'll play (although question #12 didn't have any answer I liked ... I think the Fed should be abolished ... but most of these political quizzes have annoying choices like that).

You Are 80% Conservative, 20% Liberal

Social Issues: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal <- This one doesn't make any sense to me

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal <-nor does this ... what is liberal or conservative ethics?

Defense and Crime: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

I happen to thing this quiz (http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz) is a little better thumbnail (since it grades on a dual axes chart instead of a one dimensional line) ... but its a bit sparse. They do have the best short explanations of each position though.

Fiscally and Defensively I agree 100% on, but ethically I'm really not so sure the questions produced a fair assessment.

The questions are a bit goofy, but I don't think any yes or no question is 100% definitive on this subject. Too many variables.

Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

An amusing diversion, but some of my positions are more nuanced than the agree/disagree options presented to me.

I guess their interpretation of what is a liberal or conservative issue also comes into play. I 'voted' pro gay marriage and pro marijuana but still only managed to be 25% liberal on social issues.

The test is too limited in it's dimensions, and I agree on the slanting of the questions. I think of my self as libertarian: Less government, more personal responsibility, and what people do with their lives is their business, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Fiscally conservative, socially liberal. Their scoring does not accurately reflect that.

The problem that I have with this is that some of the questions you have to answer what is the "best answer" of the two options vs. what you would really like to answer.

See one of the problems is that everything is gray to liberal, that is because they are in the business of removing the differences between right and wrong, truth and lies, moral and immoral.

Wrong - see proof....

the 1956 Republican Party platform that would be deemed commie pinko by today's Republicans. Like this one:

We are proud of and shall continue our far-reaching and sound advances in matters of basic human needs--expansion of social security--broadened coverage in unemployment insurance --improved housing--and better health protection for all our people.
How about the environment:

We favor a comprehensive study of the effect upon wildlife of the drainage of our wetlands.
We recognize the need for maintaining isolated wilderness areas.

Or regulation of business:

A continuously vigorous enforcement of anti-trust laws
Legislation to enable closer Federal scrutiny of mergers which have a significant or potential monopolistic connotations;

Procedural changes in the antitrust laws to facilitate their enforcement.

Or how about this communist rhetoric?

Stimulate improved job safety of our workers, through assistance to the States, employees and employers;
Continue and further perfect its programs of assistance to the millions of workers with special employment problems, such as older workers, handicapped workers, members of minority groups, and migratory workers;

Strengthen and improve the Federal-State Employment Service and improve the effectiveness of the unemployment insurance system;...

Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of Sex;

Clarify and strengthen the eight-hour laws for the benefit of workers who are subject to federal wage standards on Federal and Federally-assisted construction, and maintain and continue the vigorous administration of the Federal prevailing minimum wage law for public supply contracts;

Extend the protection of the Federal minimum wage laws to as many more workers as is possible and practicable;

Continue to fight for the elimination of discrimination in employment because of race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry or sex;

Provide assistance to improve the economic conditions of areas faced with persistent and substantial unemployment;

Revise and improve the Taft-Hartley Act so as to protect more effectively the rights of labor unions, management, the individual worker, and the public.

I am interested to hear what you mean by Neo Liberal. If you don't want to crap up the board either start a new thread or PM me. Reason being that word means different things depending on who you talk to. Like Neo-liberalism in europe refers to free market conservatives. Liberal meaning no rules on trade.

Another uneducated illiterate unintelligent little liberal who cries to mommy and has to immediately slander a conservative because their fragile ego was bruised. You worthless ball sack. You don't want to read me, put me on your ignore list if you are smart enough to figure it out.

Well first......... I was not insinuating calling you a nazi. So I apologize if that is how you read it. I just gave that site as an extreme example where all people preach to the choir. As to you belonging there. Nope, not meant that way. I rather enjoy our back and forth. I give you a hard time you give me one. Its all in good fun. If I met you in real life I'd still buy ya a beer and look for common ground and not a fight. [Beer]

Did not like that at all. There weren't nearly enough questions about issues to make a determination and the options that were given didn't always fit my personal beliefs. It was either way left or way right. The plea-bargain question was stupid. That's how the systems is set up, and get's more convictions and much cheaper than having a trial for every single person, which they can do if they want. The plea-bargain is the defendant's choice.

So I will not post my results...and that was a pretty weak rant...sorry.

Straight up Ranger... I am sorry if you thought I called you a Nazi. I should have made myself more clear in my post. So that is my fault. I don't think you are one. Nor do I think any of the board members are. Though there may be some here. I do appreciate how the board is willing to police itself and make fun of the bubbas who make the whole gun community look bad. I personally don't see this site as being a right wing site. It's a board for people who like the AR15 and all Americans can enjoy that no matter what their politics should be. In fact the more you reach out to all people of all political stripes, the better it will be for gun rights.

Now if someone was a Nazi, I would call them out on that and only if they had already labeled themselves as such through words or actions. Just like I call some blacks ******s. Not because all blacks are. But because some of them are what that word implies. I try to treat all people with respect till they give reason for me not to give them respect.

So sorry for the confusion. I will try to be more clear about things. Offer for a beer is always still there too[Beer]

Not trying to shit up this thread. I just think Ranger deserves the respect of me clarifying and apologizing in the open and not in a PM.

Nynco, apology accepted and appreciated.

What you don't understand is that I'm a southern boy brought up in a fairly racist house, surrounded by friends whose parents were 3rd generation Klan. I went into the Army and learned that those same guys I was raised to dislike had my back, more than one gave his life for the creed. So, you see, being called a Nazi gets directly under my skin. I'm a cool cat 99% of the time, but I do have buttons.

Well I certainly agree that I would like to see gun ownership be less of a Conservative thing and just a thing. I would certainly like each race as well as political party agree on our rights of gun ownership and usage (I am sure I'm dreaming) but I do think the more across the board we are with different peoples the better it will be over all for all gun owners instead of being labeled certain things just because of gun ownership.

Well that makes total sense. It also speaks highly of someone who grew as a person rather than continue in the same path as was taught to them. I agree, I had the same experience in the military too. I know I myself grew a great deal from the experience. Esp from living over seas for a while. Its good to get outside of your comfort zone. Life has too many possibilities to live in a world of hate.

As to me messing up a thread, well its a free country.
I'm going to go off on a tangent here...
I've seen/heard people use the "Its a free country" bullshit as an excuse for doing things that are generally unacceptable for as long as I can remember. Society has a number of unwritten "codes" that reasonable people generally follow... this is called being RESPECTFUL. Basic things like don't cut in front of people in lines, dress nicely for Church, give pregnant woman and elderly your seat if no others are available nearby, etc. Too many people don't do these things, because they weren't taught respect and discipline as a child, and when I see people doing things like that and/or using the copout "Its a free country," I get the impression that they're disrespectful pricks.

This has been pretty interesting as a group experiment on views. Like others have said, a bit narrow to generalize someone, but it does show that even thought we may be dominantly conservative, there are some areas that border on gray.

The one particular question that threw me was the one on the Govt controlling unemployment. I kind of misread it. I was thinking the Govt affecting unemployment. But the question reads, govt controlling. We all know how well things go when the govt controls them. :) Anyways, that one threw me for 15% liberal.

You have to take it issue by issue, in my opinion. I support the fiscal austerity that the GOP talks about... but not what they actually have done. I support (some) of what the Dems talk about in terms of social issues... but mostly because there they happen to align with a libertarian viewpoint. None of that is going to come across in a poll like this.

Neither party does a very good job of representing my will, and they both do a piss poor job of managing the country, and have done so for far longer than I've been able to vote.

I got the same thing. I think the "corporations responsibility" question swayed my results for personal responsibility, but I think it mostly comes down to: I don't care what you do, if it doesn't affect me at all.
