I figure we all derail the other threads enough that maybe a dedicated thread might be a better place for it. Anything is game here, all viewpoints welcome. Name calling is a given and getting pissed off is bound to happen at some point [Flower].

I'll start by saying this article reflects my sentiments quite nicely regarding our new debt deal:

Ranger that story is predictable. I have read some books on psychology profiles of different political stances. That fits right in there. In fact I could send you a link for a whole book about it online. I first started reading about the subject after reading some columns by John Dean who is a conservative himself.

Oh Gawd- here we go- the MYTH of the New Deal. Suggested reading- "Three Myths of the Great Depression" a paper from the Foundation for Economic Education. It has nothing to do with right wing attacks. It has to do with transferral of wealth from the haves to those who want it for free. That was the New Deal. Transferral of jobs FROM the private sector and wealth FROM the private sector to the public sector- i.e. gov't.

Lol the new deal us such a joke. I am conservative but try to see both viewpoints and I believe both political parties are garbage but really if we have to debate the uselessness of the new deal we are wasting each others time. It's the worst economic plan and social plan in the history of this country. Some of the ideas short term weren't bad but over the long term are completely detrimental

John Dean is a conservative who feels the Republican party has gone off the deep end. John Dean served under Nixon. Remember Water Gate? Well Dean was the one who believed in the rule of law more than party loyalty. The Republicans don't like him because Dean believed in his oath to the constitution more than his party loyalty. If only other Americans would do so, our nation would be better off.

How is Soc Security bad? It has never missed a payment and has kept countless American Senior from starving to death. I think you all need to read a little history about the poor and middle class prior to the New Deal.

The longest, largest, stablest growth in the middle class and the whole countries GDP was from 1935 till 1979. Only in the 80's once we started to end the New Deal reforms did the middle class slide in reverse. Then after the Reagan reforms our debt exploded at the same time in order to keep the economy from going off a cliff.

It is outdated. It was not designed to pay 100% of the people who paid in nor was it designed to pay them for 20+ years. It's not a bad theory but it's not working. Not to mention, it should be our choice as to what type of retirement plan we pay into or don't pay into. It should be voluntary.

PS - it's your responsibility to save up enough not to starve to death when you retire, not the government's to force you to do so.

Ron Pauls son is definitely not of the same moral character as the father. Heck the fact that he was practicing medicine without a legitimate license is something to be really concerned about. He made his own optometry society for just himself and passed it off as legitimate. Thats fraud in my book. He should have been in jail not congress. But so too should most all people in Congress.

Sorry to jump in so late- I know you all have been waiting for my input... as an avid student of history apparently Delfuego is not aware that history is rife with criticisms of the past to help improve the future. So we can't talk about WWII, WWI, the Civil War, the Revolution, Egypt, anything in the Bible, etc. because we didn't live then... I may not have been alive during WWII and Vietnam, but as being an educated person on what transpired (hindsight being 20/20 and all) I think I can comment on it. I'd love to share my editorial on issues of the past. Please Del, resort to logic, not this broken system of "if you weren't there you can't talk on the subject." It's on Netflix instant watch, so you can view it. And before you go attacking it saying it's a Republican conspiracy film, John Zeigler, the filmmaker behind it, is notorious for using actual sources and facts behind his work... so don't go in thinking it's another pro-GOP propaganda film, actually watch it with an open mind and see for yourself. I don't know what you mean by "guy you got." I'm not a republican, I'm a libertarian. So you may think that means I should like Ron Paul. Yeah, he's ok; I don't like how he has voted on some social issue stuff like abortion. But face it, he doesn't have a shot at all. He's too extreme for some of the rightys because of his libertarian stances on drugs, gay marriage, and other of the sort. Out of all the candidates coming out on that side though, he is the only decent one in my book who cares about any personal liberties and letting you make your own mind up on stuff...

He's not "real" conservative for quite a few people on the right, so that's not an accurate statement, and again, that's not my party... The GOP is far too divided right now, so that's why they are in trouble for 2012. But it's early, so things may very well change...

Palin's not my first choice (actually not any of my choices) but I don't think she is the dumb twit that she was portrayed as. The left media steamrolled her because she was a major hiccup in their plan to crown Obama as king (and Lord and Savior). I watched the documentary (done BY A DEMOCRAT by the way) and found it interesting, but it also confirmed that while she's not as dumb as a box of rocks I don't think she's the person to have at the helm either.

Would we be better off with Palin instead of Obama? I think it would be different but bad in different ways. Depends on which devil you want. Obama seems dead set on destroying our country through terrible economic decisions, while Palin I think would be more passive and probably struggle to make the tough decisions.

Obama is a post turtle, plain and simple. Palin is a post turtle. McCain is a twit. Bush was NOT a great president but made some good decisions. Believe me, I wish we could have OUR Clinton (popular, charismatic, seemingly intelligent - but he was also a post turtle), but the playing field is narrowed by what I would consider to be whackjobs like Ron Paul.

I don't like Palin. Where did she come from? Why was she picked? Her and others are the reason we need to get away from the two party system. Every election is like giving your self an enema of hot sauce or grapefruit juice and seeing which hurts more. Limiting our selves to two candidates hurts our country. It always turns into a who likes/dislikes guns, I believe/do not believe in god, or insert other frivolous argument here.

For once I want a candidate to have ended these pointless wars, and education the top of their priorities.

Palin is a quitter and anyone who takes her serious sees what they want to see in her, not what she is. She is nothing but an attention whore who shirked her duties as the elected gov on Alaska so that she could make money. Hardly a leader we need.

Is Ron Paul a rigid ideologue? I have to agree. But I see most all of the modern right wing as that. History and facts take back seat to theories. Like the theory of supply side economics. How many times do we have to try that and see it fail before peoples ideology changes?

Palin is a quitter and anyone who takes her serious sees what they want to see in her, not what she is. She is nothing but an attention whore who shirked her duties as the elected gov on Alaska so that she could make money. Hardly a leader we need.

Is Ron Paul a rigid ideologue? I have to agree. But I see most all of the modern right wing as that. History and facts take back seat to theories. Like the theory of supply side economics. How many times do we have to try that and see it fail before peoples ideology changes?

Reagans economic growth only happened because of deficit spending. If he had cut gov spending the same amount he cut taxes, the economy would have gone into a depression.

As to what liberal economics are. I don't think you know what they are. You just repeat the right wing interpretations.

They won't believe they are wrong until thay run this country all the way into the ground and then they will blame the right for their stupidity.

How the hell can you try to convince someone what is right and wrong when they believe it's okay for men to be blowing each other. Not that they are gay themselves but it's okay if everyone else is. Thar's just a small point in the scheme of things but it's a very real and valid point. Their views about life and what makes life good are just flat wrong. They must be defeated at the polls. If that doesn't work, then Lord help us. At that point there will be good men that will do what is needed, I'm sure.

You want to convince me? You need to cite sources that are not so far left that it's not funny - such as you have done already. Rather, find an unbiased view who clearly takes the right side and the left side to show their shortcomings. I didn't ask you to cite things that are contrary to your point, that IS ridiculous, but don't cite things that are obviously biased in their opinion. I will NOT cite to you any sources from Fox, Rush or any other right wing pundits, because that only serves to show you that I believe what they do, rather I'll point to actual facts and figures by an unbiased party if I want to convince you. Hell, I'll even site sources from YOUR side of the fence, but not my own (unless I can also cite separate sources that back it up).

How about in this thread we leave out all the platitudes and bravado? Conservative/Liberal seems like a better home for it.

Keynesian economics is a failure. It could work in theory, as could any economic model work, if the conditions were perfect and you started at a zero sum. For example every economist you will ever meet will start a conversation saying "well all things being equal" which they never are, but I digress. Keynes can't work because a large factor is the continual growth of industry via government stimulus. If industry is not outputting at an equal or greater rate than stimulus than the game ends with an all around loss. Obamya today is continuing a bastardization of Chicago school and Keynes. His major problem is that we are not exporting and producing enough wealth to keep pace and out grow stimulus. Therefore if he continues regulation, taxes, and "free trade" that is lop sided towards our opponents he will further stifle exports and production causing a Keynes melt down.

Chicago school (Reagan) economics is a failure. The free market was used as a wild fire to grow financial and investing markets. Which it did. The neo-liberals (Reagan,Thatcher,Friedman) began an experiment in the early 80's with the free market. The experiment was extremely effective at first bringing in large amounts of market build up and revenue for the state. But a wild fire eventually burns itself out. Industry looks at it's numbers and realizes that the cost to business here is more expensive than say china or india. They pick up and leave, build a product somewhere else than sell that product in the US. We are exporting our dollars and not our products. We get less taxes from US companies because they flee our shores. This debt crisis is a fallacy. Tax or cut good luck to either. Deficits can't be fixed by cuts alone. The real problem for Repubs is that we are attempting to fix a Keynesian problem with a Chicago answer, while the D's are doing vice versa.

The only real answer isn't in theory at all but the tried and true method that the US was built on.Protection of our market against the rest of the world. We must create either incentive or penalty towards businesses that leave. When we restrengthen our own line of defense and come home revenues will increase naturally. There are without a doubt areas to cut spending but until we have a long term solution neither argument does much other than hold the line of anger until the next election.

One problem could be that certain economic policies are in favor right now, extremely so for Republicans, largely the same for mainstream Democraps. They are regarded as true but suppose they are snake oil?

I started reading widely in some of these areas after 2008. I'd watched my 401K diminish over the years. I hadn't paid much attention so I had it all in tech stocks in 2000 and all in mutual funds in 2008. i put in a lot to have a little.

Here's one interesting book: http://www.amazon.com/ECONned-Unenlightened-Undermined-Democracy-Capitalism/dp/0230620515/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263949691&sr=8-1

A big part of the book is devoted to showing that all theories of economics are not a science, at best a soft science. The move to mathematical models made economists feel more professions but the models were crap. They had to omit too much or make too many ultimately false assumptions.

The author, Yves Smith, has a site Naked Capitalism: http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/ She might be seen as a bit lefty but a lot of her beliefs are that both parties are rotten and the connected businessmen who own them are worse.

When it comes debating here we tend to cite beliefs as facts which makes for lousy arguments.

The reason corporations take their jobs out of the United States is the fact that we have 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world. Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.
Thomas Jefferson (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/t/thomasjeff138493.html)

I agree that we should lower tax rates but let's think something through. Congress is established to deal with common goods not particular ones. If we allow business to ship jobs overseas, pay little in local, state and federal taxes when they do leave and then turn around and sell their crap in the US I call bull. Business is a particular interest and should be dealt with as such. Our economy, defense, and general welfare shouldn't be held hostage because some jackass at any company can make a bigger buck in another nation. If you agree with Flan, likely you have never owned a business. If you had owned a business, not some little internet business but a business with employees, property, vehicles, equipment, etc, you would know that the gov't quickly becomes the enemy. This thru taxation and regulation. Year by year the gov't finds new ways to take bites out of profitability. Discourage you from hiring, literally forcing you- thru taxation and regulation- to stop growing, reduce benefits and just try to survive. This is the plight of small businesses today. Thru profit- small businesses become big businesses and employ more as they grow.

Listen up guy we're talking public/government policy. Of course it makes sense from a business perspective. But we are talking a government perspective. Agreed gov't needs to get off their backs if they're here at home, doing business at home. I meant penalize companies that screw the pooch and leave then make profits back here at home. No really Rush is clinically deaf because he took too much Oxycontin. He pushes the war on drugs while he himself is a synthetic heroin addict. Oxycontin is synthetic heroin. Remember the scandal where he sent his maid to buy his drugs.

Oxycontin is NOT synthetic heroin. You are listening to BS press misinformation. Check your Pharmacology. Both heroin and oxycodone are SEMI-SYNTHETIC opioids... Coming from either morphine or thebaine- all opium based. Oxycontin is the time released version of oxycodone. Both drugs come from your poster boy country that you love because of their medical system...Germany. They invented heroin, oxycodone, zyclon b, methadone. What a great country! Synthetic heroin...try Dilaudid or Methadone.

Heroin has over twice the kick of oxycodone when mainlined but way less kick when taken by mouth...converted to morphine before it hits the brain. Oxycodone is 3-4 times as potent as morphine by mouth.

It is possible that Rush lost his hearing from acetaminophen (Tylenol) use. Narcotics DO NOT cause hearing loss!!!! Been studying narcs for 20 years and have never heard any evidence proving this. Now, if Rush was taking large doses of Vicodin/Lortab , which has acetaminophen, then hearing loss is possible. Any drug, even OTC, can cause problems.

If I went with that kind of logic, I might say that Obama is still using coke and having homosexual parties since that's a rumor in the mill as well. AND you are all knowing about the effects of Oxy but didn't want to bore us with the details - or is it that you jumped to the conclusion with no facts and acquiesced when someone who knows the answer quite well called you on it? For that matter, what left wing blog did you read that says it was caused by Oxy and not the actual auto-immune inner ear disease that he has that had actually caused his hearing loss? Just because SOME people have THEORIZED that his hearing loss MIGHT be caused by drug use, all that the Rush haters hear is "ahhh, druggie went deaf because of drugs". Funny.

By the way, I don't really like Rush all that much, I think he's a blow hard, but it never ceases to amaze me how people will just simply attack someone with no proof just because they don't agree with what they are saying.

OLD NEWS....circa 2003

The Daily News reported that Limbaugh's former housekeeper claims to have supplied him with massive quantities of OxyContin, Lorcet and hydrocodone between 1998 and 2002.

Lorcet -- which, like Vicodin, is a mixture of hydrocodone and acetaminophen -- has been linked to sudden and profound hearing loss in patients who misuse or abuse the drug. First in 1999 and then more forcefully in the summer of 2001, physicians at the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles warned doctors and consumers of a "possible correlation between permanent hearing loss" and hydrocodone-acetaminophen combinations such as Lorcet and Vicodin. The Los Angeles Times reported in September 2001 that doctors at House and other Southern California medical facilities had identified 48 patients who suffered hearing loss after taking exceptionally high doses of the drugs.

Coincidentally -- or not -- Limbaugh turned to the House Ear Institute after he began experiencing what doctors there called "rapidly progressive hearing loss" in May 2001.

So Salon.Com citing the Daily News - my what newsworthy, credible and completely unbiased organizations you cite from. Again, the article says that it MAY have caused, COULD have caused, not DID cause. Hell, my mother told me that jerking off would cause me to go blind, therefore should I then assume that all blind people wanked themselves into that condition? Well, for people who hate Rush, it's quite obvious he pill popped his way to hearing loss. For them it's sweet victory that the right wing figurehead is addicted to pain killers and paid the price for his lavish lifestyle and lies. For those of us who neither hate nor love Rush, the medical explanation makes far more sense.

I'm not sure I can debate with you Nynco. No matter what, you turn to left wing blogs as sources for your "news", "facts", "information" and general outlook on the utopian America. You must debate with some really blind sheeple (probably wanked themselves blind) who actually believe these things and don't do any independent research rather than just take your word for it - maybe that is why you throw out these "undisputed facts" of yours.

Yeah ... I've been arguing with these leftists for the better part of 3 decades ... they chant the same BS over and over in their kool-aid induced trance ... I'm tired and they NEVER seem to wake up (well a bunch did when some muzzies stole some airplanes and killed thousands, but that's the only time I've seen it happen, and half of them promptly went back to sleep chanting "Bush Lied, People Died" and "No Blood for Oil!").

So yeah, I'm with you there and I'm probably going to get more done today as a result. [Beer]

Lord, man POSSIBLE, POSSIBLE, MAYBE, COULD HAVE. All I'm trying to say is that you say IT HAPPENED, and even the sources you cite all say IT COULD HAPPEN and not that it DID HAPPEN.

It is POSSIBLE that that a stray bullet fell from space and killed a guy in his living room, but MORE LIKELY that his wife, with the smoking gun in her hand, with ballistics that matched, did it.

Yikes!

Seriously, that's what you got out of that? Seriously? Why do we hate PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS? Because they are a spoiled union that has turned our kids in to roving morons (didn't Matt Damon say he attended public school - and look at how HE turned out). I know some excellent public school teachers, my wifes mom was one, but that doesn't change the fact that they have no accountability for doing a good job. It's our KIDS we're talking about.

I was yanked from public schools because of how bad they sucked, put into a private school, moved and had to go to public school again for one semester and they wanted to skip me 3 grades because that is the level I was at compared to other kids, my mother wouldn't let them because it would have been too socially awkward to have me that much younger than my classmates. Public schools are shafting kids - sure plenty come out excellent, but those are kids who went beyond what the school did and not the school pushing them to their potential.

How Damon turned out? He's fucking rich and doing just fine. The truth of the matter is public schools suck because they have to teach all students. Including the tards who will never learn. That wastes a lot of time and energy that could be better put on students who are good. The right wing likes to only look at the kids who do bad and blame that on the unions. Truth is the tards just don't get it, you can blame genetics for that. Blaming teachers is just pure BS.

Teachers have ZERO accountability. No incentive to do a good job. There are good teachers and there are good students. There are bad students who will never learn but there are also bad teachers who will never teach...we need to get rid of the bad teachers. But they are protected...

I went to public school and learned pretty much nothing. I had to figure out how to be a good student when I went to college. And thank God I went to engineering school and not liberal arts. You can't argue math but everything in Liberal arts school is up for debate.

I'm no rush apologist. He guy has some problems that turns me off to him. But if he's a drug abuser so is Obama, who himself admits to smoking pot. People do stupid shit and people get addicted to stuff. It doesn't necessarily make them evil or a criminal. I see it in the pharmacy daily. I know pharmacists who have become so addicted they steal it and lose their 120k a year job. It's sad. Many people have abused drugs. We should commend the ones that stop and get help.

As far as teachers go, the problem the right has with them is that they are a bunch of spoiled brats. At the higher level they are partisan idiots that dictate our kids learn stupid and useless material, often from a particular slant. There are good teachers out there just like there are good people of Medicaid, but many have becomE fat and lazy from being spoiled rotten. Still more go into teaching for he summers off and in some cities the gross over payment. My wife is a teacher as are two of my aunts, my mother in law, my brother in law and my father in law is a professor at a state university. I don't think a single one would disagree that our public school system is shit and part of the problem is the teachers themselves. It's like every other government organization. It got too powerful, too spoiled and too protected. It produced what one would expect, lazy and spoiled teachers. There are good hard working ones out there but the unions and bums make it impossible for them to do their job. I see that daily with my wife

Why, why did I click on show post.

The truth of the matter is that when you reward mediocrity you get more of the same. When everyone is treated the same why should you excel. Teachers have no reward system for anything but keeping their head down and passing students. Then getting tenure and fuck it I cant be fired. But I want a pay raise. If teachers were rewarded for their students performance then we would not be paying so much for idiots.

How Damon turned out? He's fucking rich and doing just fine.

And there it is, finally, we understand. So you are implying that the level of a mans success and intelligence is based upon his social and economic status. He's rich, so we should all consider him a success huh? He's a good looking guy who has acting talent, THAT made him a success - not the public school system.

By this measure of a mans success, I'm then quite the enigma. I drive a $100K Mercedes, so I MUST be smart and successful. My two graduate degrees didn't make me successful or intelligent, my car does. The fact that I know the difference between when to use "there" and "their" is the result of a private education, not public. However, I am not in the public eye nor do I make a million dollars a day, so I am not AS successful as Matt Dufus. I would argue that I'm far more successful and that the bank account or public stage does not make the man.

So forget about the two incidents this week where Matt Damon showed that he is dumb as a box of rocks and has absolutely no clue about any issues outside of his little followers circle - he's Ok because he's rich and famous. The public school system didn't fail him so much that he hasn't a clue, it taught him how to act on screen. Got it. When quizzed about why teachers should not be held to account the same as any other job got he same reaction out of Matt Damon as we see in so many uneducated liberals, and that is to blindly attack the person asking the question rather than have to be challenged to support your position logically, intelligently and in an informed way. THAT is always how the uneducated will react to being put into a position to defend their indefensible position.

the funniest thing is that in just the short 15 years or so since i was in system, it has changed to this "we don't want to hurt poor timmy's feelings" crap where its literally impossible to fail kids and kids don't get A's and B's anymore in many schools, in stead they get BS PC grades such as meets expectations, exceeds expectations, needs work, blah blah blah. this country is so worried about hurting someone's feelings, its ridiculous. when my brother decided to get his P.E. certification as well on top of his teaching degree, they told him in class he can't play sports that are too phsyical, like dodgeball, or ones where kids pick teams because it can hurt their feelings. they also told him not to do physical tests such as sit ups and push ups because it might hurt someone's feelings if they can't do any. are you kidding me? some of these kids need their feelings hurt so they experience the real world and hopefully take some personal responsibility to better themselves both physical and academically. we live in upside down world, i swear.

This. Its primetime for libtard pussification of our children. One day we will go to war with out enemies armed only with pillows and stuffed animals and they all will laugh at how weak we are... Kids need to have their feelings hurt, their knees skinned, their fat bellies made fun of, it builds character. I'm a product of public school- I was harassed in a similar fashion to Dylan Kelbold and Eric Harris, I was made fun of because I was short and skinny, I got hurt playing football, broke bones playing hockey, and learned the importance of teamwork and self-reliance through team and individual sports. I had great teachers, I had mediocre teachers, and I had terrible teachers (namely one that somehow couldn't teach math and thus I struggle at a college level on that subject today- but learned to teach myself when there is an absence). So to say that everyone who went to public school is moronic and we need to stop paying them as much- I find the flaw and call bullshit. I have had people say I'm among the smartest of my age and social demographic (not trying to toot my own horn, just what I've heard), others say I should run for public office one day because I'm mentally capable of figuring out a solution to so many problems... what do I do instead? I work the family business and strive for my BA in History and get a teaching cert so I can substitute teach part time and maybe, just maybe impart some actual usable knowledge on our next few generations so they don't all come out libtard drones. /rant
