There is quite a list of vendors offering training classes. Please share experience with a CCW class down in the Springs , good or bad. I do know how to handle firearms so live fire may not be necessary, unless it was tied to some type of intermediate or advanced work. Please send a pm if you would rather not post. Thanks in advance for the help.

I just took the Intro to Conceal Carry class at Whistling Pines Gun Club. This is for experienced shooters and they want you to have shot at least 2000 rounds. Cost was $125 and course length was 3 hrs. 2hrs in the class room, one hour on the range and two free range passes. It was a good experience and I just had my interview with the Sheriff's office yesterday.

I would have to say RW Firearms Training. Bob is one of the best shooters and instructors I have ever met.

EDIT: Sorry just saw you were in the Springs, still RW is great.

www.coloradohandgunsafety.com (http://www.coloradohandgunsafety.com) Brandon Kirk taught the class. I believe their number is: 250-0309

The normal cost was $85. I found a deal on the radio shopping call in program and got it for half price. Three hour instruction, no firing.
Received the certificate at the end of the class and submitted it to the Sheriff's office the next day.

Took mine through Dan Brunner with PDI. I was happy with the class.

I took the class at Paradise Sales

Excellent class, especially for the complete beginner (but experienced shooters will still get something out of it).

That’s where I took mine. I give him two thumbs up. Just one Four hour class in the evening, no live fire. The guys that taught it are pretty engaging and keep you involved with the class. I’d say it is more for experienced shooters that have prior firearms knowledge.

I took mine with Tony at Whisling Pines. I was very happy with it. I think it was $100ish.

I've heard these guys are pretty good, if you don't mind the drive:

I don't know what to tell you about classes in the Springs area. but I do know that I had never used a handgun before 2008. The wife insisted that I buy a hand gun after Obambi was elected. I hired an NRA instructor for a two hour orientation with the handgun. I practiced shooting and cleaning it including field stripping.

I took a basic NRA course a few months after that. That class counted towards CCW. I applied for my CCW and waited. Then finally it got my permit.

Then I watched gun shows on personal defense. I tried some of the practice drills, but I thought I should take a more comprehensive class. I signe dup for a self-defense pistol class which was awesome. But I don't think I would have been ready for it until I had reached this point.

I also took a similar class for rifle with my S&W AR-15. That was another intense class but I am glad that I did it.

So, in conclusion, depending on what you are mentally and physically ready for, I recommend going forward in steps.

I didn't take a class. I shot in a couple of local pistol competition events and got a letter from the match director stating same, and the Larimer County Sheriff accepted that in lieu of the class requirement. That was five years ago so rules may have changed but its worth a try.
