How does one become qualified by the NRA in something like Basic Pistol Courses or CCW?

Well Id like to be able to if the need arises or if I could possibly do it for extra income or just for friends who needed the course!
You have to go through an NRA Instructors course.
Most Instructors charge $200-300 for the 8 hr course.
I did it about 6 years ago with George Wright in Denver.

How long does that qual last you?
Forever, unless you let it expire.

200-300 for an 8 hour course to be qualified to teach forever? Not too bad!
Do I have to take different CCW classes in different states?

You need to pay every year to keep your credentials. I've been able to pay 3 years at a time recently. The more disciplines you have the more they charge.
They also ask for a student number report so they can kind of have an idea what Instructors are doing and how many students are taking courses. [Beer]

I honestly don't recall how much it cost me last time. I have 6 disciplines to pay for. Check on the NRA web site because I understand from my Training Counselor that there's been some recent changes. [Beer]
$14-$17 for 3 years but I have not been logged in to the instructors site in a while. That price is what i paid last year for a 3 year renewal for basic pistol.

Do you have to be a current NRA member to take their courses to be an instructor?

Actually...No. I took my NRA instructor course from the Boulder Rifle Club a few years back. They do NOT require you to be an NRA member, but it does cost you more to maintain your instructor status and the cost difference is worth getting the membership. Basically, they make a strong suggestion in the class that it is very beneficial for you to become a member if you are not. I think it would be silly to be a certified NRA Instructor and not an NRA member.

How much was the course and how long was it?
The price i quoted was a non member instructor cost minus instructor insurance (optional). For the life of me i cant find that cost.

Each discipline takes about 8 hours and prices will vary since it's up to the Instructor on cost. The NRA charges for class material and the Instructor charges what they consider appropriate.
I was fortunate and took all my courses about 16 years ago through the Boy Scouts at greatly reduced cost. We were charged material costs and food costs for 2 courses per weekend.
Just a heads up-each discipline requires an exam at the end of the course. [Beer]
$31 for 3 years if your a non NRA member, even though I'm a member i got charged the non member rate, but I couldnt let it lapse so I paid it.

You need an NRA Training Counselor to teach you an Instructor class-as stated before go to NRA web site for contacts. [Beer]

I paid $125.00 and the course was spread out over the course of 1 week if my memory serves me correctly. If you go to the Boulder Rifle Club's website, they have classes listed there and the cost. Now, when I took my class a while back - we were told prices were going to change because they were charging quite a bit under the average. So, my apologies if the prices have gone up since. I can only quote what I paid back when I took the course.
Here is the link to their website: http://www.boulderrifleclub.com/
I hope this helps. Take care.
