These stories make me wonder how far down the road to being a third world country have we already traveled and how far We the People intend to travel before we say "Stop this thing and turn it around!"

Too bad she didn't have a CHP.

What sort of abjectly amoral society have we become when we metaphorically reduce a productive life to being “in the wrong place at the wrong time” — only to worry that the teen murder suspect and his family might suffer from the disclosure of his identity? Perhaps our civilization and our police forces, in fact, are in the wrong places and at the wrong times when we cannot ensure Ms. McVay the humane expectation of basic safety.
Couldn't agree more.

I am not sure if there is a bit of levity in your response or not, so forgive me for what I'm about to say if I read your post incorrectly.

I am a big believer in the Law of the Old West. A time when victims still had more rights than criminals, when a jury found someone guilty, assuming they made it to the court room, they were walked out to the town square to "pay their dues". There was no such thing as 10-15 years of appeals.

It was so much simpler and more effective.

Just crazy, and my family wonders why I always carry. They think I’m paranoid, I say I’m more prepared.

sadly this is not a new or isolated incident. it is unfortunate the the majority of our society turns a blind eye and does nothing until its too late . do i think that everyone should run out and get a ccw out of fear , no not at all . if we had less tolerance for riff raff at an early age then the teens would not be such a menace.
unfortunately do to fear , depression and desperation things are only gonna get worse .

Since I deal with minors on a regular basis I have absolute hatred of the juvenile correction system.

Figure a fair trial and then whack him. Don't care if he is a minor. He should accept the consequences....
For a crime like that, as soon as they knew he did it and why, it should have been taken care of by capitol punishment right then and there. Instead the majority of the public is all for wasting money taking him to trial and then sinding him to prison where we all get to pay for his comfy bed, cable tv, gym, and three square meals a day.

I hear ya. All juvenile hall does is teach the little criminals how to be better criminals. Even when juveniles are charged as adults, the limitations placed on sentencing make a mockery of justice. The gang member in this story should be subject to ALL of the penalties at the disposal of the court, including the death penalty, if deemed appropriate. Some things that are broken can't be fixed.
