So, like a bonehead I decide to take my wife and 2 daughters, 7 & 3, to the Mile High Marketplace Flea market. It's feeling like 100 degrees by 11am so we pack it up and head out of the parking lot. On the way out it appears that I am following cones in a dedicated lane then I'll make a right turn, with orange cones leading me out. What I didn't see was the stop sign and lucky for society there was a Commerce City Police officer waiting there for me. He followed me through the intersection, I made a left to get onto 76 and he lite me up. I'm carrying my Ruger LCP in my front pocket. I rolled down the windows keeping my hands in as plain view as possible. He asked me if I knew why he stopped me, I said no. He said I failed to come to a complete stop back there. I provided my license, registration, and oh shit, expired auto insurance. He ran everything, at no time did he ask if I was carrying and I didn't offer anything other than what was asked of me. He let me go with a warning on the stop sign so no points, but I have to send in proof of insurance showing that I was valid at the time of the stop.
Overall he was professional and courteous.

Why are you worried about having the pistol if you are licensed to CCW?
Was your dog in danger at any time?
I was wondering the same thing.
Maybe that Ohio video scared you? Nothing to worry about with a cow. There is no law to provide the info and depending on your county they already know if you have a permit or not when they pull up your plate as long as the car is in your name

If it makes anybody feel any better we (the cops) got notice not long ago that the file linked to CCIC is about to be purged and we will no longer get notices of people who have CCW permits.
It's also worth noting that in almost 4 years of patrol work so far I have yet to contact a CCW holder for anything more negative than a minor traffic violation.
You shouldn't have been worried about having the pistol, CCW or not. I've been pulled over while carrying without a CCW.
He probably didn't give you a ticket because you weren't on public roads when you didn't stop for the stop sign.

That's good, in 10 years of packing I have only been pulled over a couple times and no problems here or Las Vegas. Most cops up here are good people, I deal with a lot of them at work.

The first time I opened carried, my heart was beating through my chest. After doing it for a while that feeling went away. I can see you being nervous even though you are 100% within your rights and legal. Anyone who says different is bullshitting.

The other thing is in CO you can CCW on private property and that includes your personal vehicle.

My coworkers all gave me the deer in the headlights look when I told them you were allowed to carry in a vehicle without a license. People who have grown up in Colorado or at least lived here for a decade or so.

For the record, I wasn't worried. I was concerned that I'd have to have a conversation with my daughter's bio-dad (I've mentioned him on these forums before, he's a real f'ing piece of work douche bag loser). Never know how he'd try to use this info should we ever take him to court again.
My wife said I handled it like I was sitting at the poker table holding the nutz, I showed no fear or apprehension. If he would've asked the question I would have replied in the affirmative.
Im sorry you got talked into going to the mile high flea market.

Agreed. I'll never go there without...really don't have plans on ever going back. Saw some very interesting & disturbing body art. When did the practice of inking female gang bangers boobies with horrible tattoos become the norm? One "woman" had a paragraph on her chest, really, 4 lines of text.
Makes me appreciate Boulder a bit more.....I'm gonna go find a tree and hug it [Beer]
You know all that crappy broken lawn furniture, old kids toys, old gas grills, and other junk that you muck out and put to the curb, that magically disappears before the trash truck comes? I'll give ya three guesses where it goes.

Oh, I got stopped recently in Lone Tree about 2am. I assume one of those "find a reason to pull him over and check him out things", since it was so late and I could have been DUI, but I was coming home from work. Anyway, two cops, one at each front window, and the cop at my pass. window saw my .45 on my hip. He said "I see you have a gun!" I said "Yep, and I just gave my permit to your partner with my license".

No hassles, no disarming, no proned out, no clubbing, no "get outta the car", but he did hang right there and keep an eye on me and made small talk (checking for alcohol breath I'm sure), and his partner appeared to do a thorough check of all my shit. Made my ass pucker, but a non-event in the end.

Don't need a CCW in your car anyway...
It can be concealed on your person in your car...with or without a CCW.
Ohio cop was stupid, the majority of the people I work with would say the same thing to almost anyone, including your grandmother, "just make sure you keep your hands where I can see them" or something to that effect.
Why are you worried about having the pistol if you are licensed to CCW?
\?
even if you dont have your ccw its totally legal to have a CW in your car
even if you dont have your ccw its totally legal to have a CW in your car

Just because it's totally legal doesn't mean you can't or won't catch a world of hell and hurt from some officer that doesn't know or care that it's legal. I'd prefer to keep it to myself, if possible, but I won't lie about it or hide it. They deserve to know if they're concerned enough to ask. One cop might start talking range stories, the next might go apeshit. Most LEO's wouldn't, but they are out there.

"Legal" only covers your ass in the courtroom, might not help you on the roadside. Cops are like any other humans, most are decent and friendly, but some can be downright antisocial. I've damn sure met more of the nice ones than not. JMHO.
