Damn dude, there's a section for lost or stolen guns somewhere around here.

One word- IRRESPONSIBLE.
Damn dude, I thought I was a space case! I set my CCW pistol on the rear bumper of my pickup once, and then drove all over the Ben Lomond Gun Club range showing the place to my grandson. When I finally remembered my pistol and stopped the truck, it was still there on the bumper, filthy dirty but clinging on for dear life. I love that loyal little sumbitch.....

I hope you find it. This is the second or third case of a lost rifle at a range that I've heard of in the last month or so. At least it's been a good reminder to make sure that all my stuff is packed up before I head home.

sure he knows this no reason to kick the guy when he is down

I'm sure he'll survive. Doesn't change the fact that anyone who leaves an assault rifle (I just forgot!) on a bench at a public range and goes home without it, whether it's me or you or Graves or rondog- is having a moment of total irresponsibility. Too busy talking or fantasizing.
I'm sure the op would freely admit to that. It's not personal. It's just the 2nd one I've read about in the past month. Check your area before you turn the key! A very expensive lesson that I'm sure he will never forget. Sometimes those are the best.

Why does it have to be some fatass??? Maybe it was a scrawny little meth-head or some pencil-necked geek!!! Why does everyone have to pick on the tactically padded "fluffy" guys? [Coffee]
Delfuego I hope it turns up for you! Perhaps someone found it and is just holding on to it for you.

Dang, that sucks. Hope you find it!
I need to start hanging out at more ranges when there is inclement weather and people leave in a hurry (like the last misplaced firearm I saw on here)... just show up and pick up the free guns [ROFL1]

Just busting his chops, I am fat as well, and in a previous post of Delfuegos he insinuated that I was a fattie/fat ass. Wasn't pleased, but still hope he finds his rifle.

You would have gotten it back if someone found it out there, pretty sure on that one. Just one of the perks of a membership range. The integrity of the shooters is consistently high.

It's not an assault rifle unless it's select fire. Otherwise it's just a semi-auto AR-15. If we use the same ignorant terms as the libtards we're just using shooting ourselves in the foot. And while I hear what you're trying to say, I think Delfuego feels bad enough and doesn't need his nose rubbed in it. Shit happens and we all have our stupid moments.
I hope you get it back Delfuego but I think we all know the chances of that are slim to none.

+100. Mistakes happen. I remember I went camping and when I was packing all my guns up I left my carry piece on the bumper of my Jeep. Had I not heard a very distinct sound of something dropping and stopped, I never would have found it. Stuff happens.
Bumped into Delfuego earlier today at the Chaffee range, good news, someone turned in his rifle.
Delfuego, congrats on getting on that 1000yd target yesterday, good bumping into you again. Hope to see you at a match in the future.

I am so lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone turned a rifle into the Chaffee County Sheriff that night, and I spent all of yesterday driving out to the range and stressing. I finally got a call back from Ron with the Forest Service (helps operate the range), he informed me that someone turned a rifle into the Sheriff on duty Monday night. After contacting the Sheriff's Office I had to wait for the on-duty officer to get it out of the evidence locker when he went back on shift at 5pm.
To clarify the situation, there were 3 of us shooting that day, all with a couple of rifles and handguns. I was the driver and when we were getting ready to leave, my buddy's said they would hump the gear up while packed the car. I even went as far as calling for one buddy to do an additional last once-through (like leaving a hotel room) and he assured me he did 2! It wasn't until we got back to Denver to unpack that it was not there.
So I had a nice day hanging out in Salida waiting for the officer to go back on the night shift, and even hung out at the range with Offgrid and did some 1k shooting to pass the time. The officer got me real good, telling me that it was used in a shooting last night (pretty freaking funny cop), met up with him @ 5pm and got the rifle back. I even got him to give me the person who turned it in's contact info. I called and offered a reward, or something to show my gratitude but they refused.
Moral of the story:
1. Don't trust your friend or shooting partner do something that is your responsibility. It was my fault not theirs. I should have made damn sure everything was accounted for!
2. Gun people / Mountain people are good people!
3. Chaffee is awesome!
PS: Uber, sorry for calling you names. It wasn't specifically aimed at you, as we have never met. I am a hockey player my whole life and call everyone fattie, douche, shitbag, cherrypicker, etc. I will try to be better on the board as name calling on the internet is pretty dumb.

It is water under the bridge Del, no harm buddy. I took offense to it then, which was also stupid, again on the interwebz. I played sports my whole life as well, rugby all the way through college and internationally. Thank you for the apology though. Let's go shooting sometime and shoot some douche, shitbag, cherrypickin pieces of paper. [Beer]

Congrats. I must say though, I'm not surprised someone turned in the rifle. I have found over e years that the integrity level of the shooting community is higher than society as a whole. As I said in my earlier post, I know for a fact that rifle would have been back to you in a day or two if left at BLGC. Its funny, the non shooters I work with in sporting goods have all mentioned that the customers buying shooting related items and ammo seem to be better than the average walmart customers. I just wish other non shooters in our society could see this phenomenon first hand.
Outstanding news!!!! A good testimonial to the notion that all of our guns cases/range bags/etc. should have your name and contact info in them somewhere. Most of us wouldn't want to do that, but it would damn sure help in an instance like this. I found a range bag at BLGC and never would have got it back to him if he hadn't had a business card in it.

This story worked out perfect. He'll never leave another gun at the range again and didn't loose the rifle for the cost of the lesson.[Beer]

I have mixed opinions on this. If the person that finds the missing item has integrity, it makes it easier to get your item back to you. My skeptical side says that if the person doesn't have integrity, it gives the scumbag an address to go look for more firearms when they know the homeowner is gone.

I used to think similarly, but while at the range waiting to see if I would ever get my rifle back; Bill the guy who helps run Chaffee had all his bags labeled in marker with his info. I think if you are frequently at competitions and ranges it would likely be a person like you who finds it. Also you could put a business card with your work address or just phone and email info, some thing to contact you by, not necessarily your home address.
Or a CO-AR15 patch or sticker!!!

Glad to hear someone was not only honest enough to turn in your found gun but had enough integrity to refuse your offer of a reward. That's awesome!
I've done some stupid shit...but fortunately I haven't left a rifle at the range. Yet...

Could probably just put your name and cell phone number on the bag or in the bag somewhere too. Solves both problems; someone has a way to get a hold of you, and if its an unscrupulous type-they don't know your address.

WOW...can't believe you just kicked this guy in the balls like that [Mad]. Shit happens, and he at least had the responsibility to post the thread in hopes that someone here would be decent enough to lend him help, not push him down and call him fat. By the way, ever heard of "karma?"

It's honestly a lot nicer than the stuff that was running through my head the first time I read this thread.
Shit definitely happens but I'd expect a lot worse responses if I posted a similar screw up.

I hear ya, it's just that I know there had to be more to the story than what was originally posted (which is why I think it's better to err on the side of caution before someone starts mud slinging). We are all human, and prone to slip up from time to time, and yes, sometimes a swift kick in the arse is justified. Other times maybe a bit of compassion goes a lot further (considering I think this guy already felt dumber than a box of hammers for leaving a rifle at the range).
My thought is, we are all on this forum because we are like-minded people with similar interests (for the most part). In this case, I just thought kicking him in the teeth right out of the chute was a bit much.
Not that I ever hope to have this happen to me, but if it were to...I suppose I know not to post it here in hopes of seeking help unless I want to get flamed? [Rant1]
My hats off to those that posted positive comments and best wishes for this user who did get his rifle back! AMEN to that! [Beer]

SQUEEZE--I stand by my original statement. Nonetheless- I am damn glad that he got it back and that it did not get into the wrong hands. You can call me an asshole if you want, but I know that if I did the same thing, I would be kicking myself in the ass (or worse) for being stupid and irresponsible. Wouldn't you? What did we all (maybe not all) call that cop out east who left his fully automatic AR on the trunk of his patrol car and drove down the street with it? Would you yourself call that stupid- or irresponsible- or both? Wonder what his write-up was for, stupidity or irresponsibility? Not trying to belabor the point, but if you're going to call me an asshole, I'm probably going to respond. I know that I triple-check my shooting area now as I leave, as opposed to double-checking before. Beyond that, I'd loan you the shirt off my back if you needed it.
This is always my worst nightmare. I always look like a dumbass when I get in the truck, back up, get nervous, and get out and look all over again. [Stooge]
I am glad that you got it back!!! There are some good people out there!

Thanks for the good vibes...[Beer]
There's not much more to the story than I posted. Combine 4+ hours at the range and 2-3 rifles each, plus pistols, plus gear bags and you are talking a lot of stuff to pack up for tired folk.
Its more common than people think too. Someone left a $1500 Kimber there not to long before I did mine. If I do it again, then feel free to bag on me something fierce. It was MY responsibility to check MY gear and not rely and my buddy to verify all the gear was accounted for.
The thing that makes this a happy (& not sad) story is due mostly in part to the Chaffee people and range. There are some great folks there and a beautiful range to boot.
