View Full Version : Shouldn't this law be common sense?

People complaining that they can't buy alcohol, tobacco, or lottery tickets with welfare money... unbelievable. I, for one, whole heartedly support this law. Seems like common sense to me.

Yeah .. I love seeing welfare reciepients all tatted and pierced up. Tats and peircing ain't cheeap(I have several).. Welfare is for feeding the hungry and clothing on their backs, ain't for recreation it's for need. They want to decorate themselves or have a good time, get a freakin job...
That's why welfare reform is desperately need. Send out to pick up trash 10-12 hours a day.

Exactly. Alot of public works could be accomplished by those on welfare. The State is just giving it to them anyways, might as well make them pick up trash, clean parks, do janitor duties at municpal buildings, etc. There are a TON of things that they can do. Make them work for their paycheck like the rest of us.

Couldn't agree more!
I also would add that if you dont have a job and pay taxes, you don't vote! That's reform!

Everybody needs a hand every now and then but it doesn't take an expert to determine when a shitbag is taking advantage, I've met and heard of more than a few and I'm f**king blown away by their lifestyle; makes me sick.

The problem with common sense is that it's not common.

Frankly as far as I'm concerned, if you collect welfare it should be ILLEGAL for you to purchase tobacco, alcohol, tattoos, candy, soda, fast food, or ANYTHING not required to keep you alive and functioning with ANY money you posses. For that matter it should be illegal for you to shop in any store, you should be required to pick up your free food from a government run warehouse and eat it back at the government run barracks you live at.
If you can afford smokes, beer, tats, etc you don't need the government's help.
It's sad that this is even an issue. They are claiming that it's unfair and categorizing welfare recipients as irresponsible - no, it simply ensures that those that ARE irresponsible don't get to spend government money on stupid things. It's mind boggling that this is even an issue. You take a look at the London rights, caused by taking away some entitlements - just how far away are we from both having to take them away and having a bunch of folks riot because their welfare is getting cut. Sad.

Like the [ethnic background deleted] family that lives down the street from my brother? Their kids wear shirts circa 1991, have old school hand-me-down huffy bikes, but mommy and daddy roll deep in a Toyota Corolla with 20" dubs... something ain't right here. And I'm willing to bet they don't have brand name cereal in the cupboard either. In .gov it's call misappropriation of funds, in welfare it's call "taking advantage." I say if caught you shouldn't be able to get on welfare ever again... you starve, the state takes your kids, and nature works it's course. Too bad the system is so overloaded that it'd be impossible to check every recipient out.

Welfare is a lifestyle. It has been for a long time, 2-3- 4 generations. Keep working. Millions (48+) people on welfare depend on you.

I'm kinda disappointed that our house liberals haven't shown up to chastise us all for being evil, greedy, racist and mean.

Interesting... could it be that perhaps we won? Or maybe he saw how truly wrong he was and is too embarrassed to come back and admit he's on our side now? Or maybe he figured something out and put on a foil hat and won't leave his basement while gripping a mossberg tightly...

I try and stay out of any threads about welfare because "the interesting comment to rims and plasma tvs" ratio gets out of hand very quickly :D
I tend to agree with your idea. Of course, if I'd said it the reaction probably would have been "OMG Obama's Hitler youth! Death camps! Gas chambers!"
Nynco probably got tired of feeling like he was talking to a brick wall. One with insults painted on it.

What am I missing here? I can't believe you support "Taxation without Representation." Didn't our forefathers fight a battle or two over this exact thing? What if I'm wealthy( I wish),don't work, pay millions each year in taxes, and I can't vote? BULLSH*T!

I get what he's saying, he just put it a bit differently than I would. How's this:
If you don't contribute to the economy and overall good of the nation, you don't get a say in who runs it.
Meaning my dad, who's been living here for 30 years but is still a Canadian citizen (yes, I think its dumb too, but that's another conversation), who works and pays taxes, would be able to vote (although he's a lib, so I'm not sure if its such a good idea).
And Shaniqua Welfare who sits around all day smoking God knows what, getting food stamps and welfare and anything else she can, popping out babies from various guys so she can get more food stamps and welfare... don't get to have a say in shit.

While driving a car that is worth more than all of my wordly possessions.

I hear what you're saying. But voting should be reserved for citizens.

...voting should be reserved for citizens.
We have certain classes of citizens that are not allowed to vote. Felons, children, people dishonorably discharged, etc.
My modest proposal is that if you're on government assistance, you cannot vote. You're no longer a "tax payer" you're a "tax spender" ... you're no longer a full citizen, you're a dependent.
You want to vote? Fine, I don't care if you don't own property or have a job, or even if you USED to be on assistance, just don't suck off the teat and you get to vote.

I used to think this way as well. I no longer do. The person you described isn't in any real danger of voting anyway though.

While this subject is near and dear to me as I grew up on welfare and food stamps, but my mom had a job and for the most part did the right thing. While I do believe that some people need help, we do need some type of reform.
I think the benefits should be limited in time available if you do not work. Food stamps should only be good on specific items like how WIC is, and not whether or not the food is hot or cold, or packaged or not. The welfare side needs to be closely watched or systems put in place to stop frivolous spending. Its too easy to take your EBT card to an ATM and take out cash to buy bullshit. It needs to be audited from time to time to see what you are spending your money on. Similar to keeping a ledger in a check book. You get caught spending money on bullshit you lose your benefits.
What we should do is make non citizens out of people. If they can't vote what other rights should they lose? Search warrant, nope you're on welfare, no 4th amendment for you. Some people are in a bad spot and do need the help. Its hard to get a good paying job when you only have a high school diploma, and no skills. At the same time though you don't get paid $12 an hour to clean toilets, or stock shelves, that's how cost go up and you are still poor.
The world needs poor people, cause if you pay me as much as a brain surgeon to clean toilets, then why would I go to school? What would be the point of trying.
That's what needs to be done, help the needy when they need it, reward them for making a life for themselves, and punish those who like free rides.

Heck, yeah! Work for your welfare. Maybe then they'd want to get a job. If it sucked to not have a job (Like, you're poor and can't do squat) maybe that would motivate some career welfare recipients to get one!
This isn't to say that I think that the original purpose for the system is a bad one; not so. It's the leeches I refer to...
