View Full Version : Wish in one hand, sh*t in the other...
Which fills up faster?
My cousin, who is the perpetual Facebook terrorist (posting things completely unrelated in the comments below my posts, and then rambling on about other useless stupid sh*t no one really wants to read) has just done a one up on the wishful thinking scale... she posted about the lottery being at $220M! Wow, cool, but the odds of winning are somewhere in the range of 1 in 86 MILLION! Why do people keep dreaming that they'll one day win the lotto? I've told her on many occasions if she spent as much time looking for a better job or putting in OT as she did dreaming of winning the lotto she'd probably be a lot better off. Any of you know people who just don't get it? Winning the lotto is a pipe dream at best, 99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the time you're just wasting your money on that numbered paper.
I have those day dreams.. but I never 'really' think I'll win it..but who knows.. one day.

I've never bought a lottery ticket in my life. Never felt I had enough money to throw some in the trash.

Ill normally play if its over 100mil, can't win if you don't play...Its only a couple of bucks, I have been known to waste money on other things with just as good of odds...(women at the bar and strippers).. [Tooth]

I view it the exact same way. Throw some money in the trash or buy a lotto ticket... don't see a difference between the two, guess I can just give it a bum, it's the same thing too!

With the lotto ticket you get a few minutes of entertainment ... and occasionally you get your money back (which never happens with the trash).
That said I rarely buy them because I rarely have cash on me (and when I do I'd rather buy a soda). [Tooth]

Ya Ronin I hear ya. Hate to ride the Ramsey horse again, but I'm gonna. In our class Ramsey calls the lotto a 'stupid tax' and shows the demographics where the most tickets are bought, shocking, the same demographics that are on welfare, etc.

Feel the same way about Starbucks! What a waste of money, yet people will think nothing about dropping $5 bucks for a cup of coffee!

When you can get a bag of coffee for less than $5 and brew something tasty yourself? People aren't that smart these days....

The same people then turn around and bitch because a gallon of gas is $3.50 a gallon!

My fiance and I get a scratch ticket every now and then. Usually we make our dollar or two back. On a couple occasions, we've won the $10 or $20 prize. I had a friend win $1000 from a $2.00 scratch ticket once.

The Lottery donates tons of money to all kinds of parks and youth education across Colorado.

Never have understood the whole Starbucks thing ????? [Coffee]
I play once in a while. I figure my odds are better of winning if I actually buy a ticket. I do put an extra dollar in my savings account for every ticket I buy. I won a grand on Millionaire Raffle ($20) on New Year's Day, so I figure I'm still WAY ahead for the year.

Some of it is good, but it's really just over priced fancy shit. Like Dennis Leary says "Can I get some fucking coffee flavored coffee please? And what ever happened to large!? What is this venti, tall, grande shit!?"
The lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math.
I think it's egregious for the government to issue itself a sole monopoly on gambling.
The people who play are the people who can't afford it.
In Indiana, your license plate renewal statement would always show how much your bill was offset by lottery income, usually around $75 a year in "savings". I told people that I won $75 in the lottery without spending any more at all.

I've never bought one but when I do I am sure I will win

Coffee isn't $5.00, it's about 1.50-1.80. The mocalattefrappemexicanochmoca grandes are 5 dollars. I like the coffee, but it bugs me they won't say small. I always try to make them say small, only about 1 in 20 does.
The lottery does pay a lot of good thing to the state, and if a small group of people want to pay it good, less taxes for me. Some how I feel just as dumb for spending money on lead to put in the side of a hill, although the fun factor is higher for lead.

I have a surefire method to get a million dollars. I'm just gonna not buy a lotto ticket 1 million times. I'm already up to like 48.

It's like winning every time you go to the gas station
