My favorite line of the whole article was........... "The feeling here at the Aurora Police Department is disbelief again."

Lordy its getting old, you just GOTTA do better than that and have some GD COMMON SENSE. Fire em, shit I'd lose my job if that happened. But lemme guess, they will get put on disciplinary bullshit suspension.

Perfect, glad they could represent my profession really well...

And I wonder why they didn't want to hire me...maybe I don't drink and drive enough.

Most PD's they would be gone after a review, but APD and similar agencies have a union that allows them to stay if it's their only real offense after they have been disciplined.

they are just people like you and me, are not perfect and share the same problems as anyone else.

maybe they had PTSD?

you don't know if they did or not. and if they did the last thing they need is judgment from you.

on top of that, the report from the media is biased and only tells one side of the story, you should keep quiet until all the facts are known.

and unless you're ever served and know the stresses of the job you have no right to comment.

sorry, read a lot of glocktalk during my ban. I think I hit most of the standard talking points. feel free to point out any ones I missed.

I think everyone has the right to comment - this is America correct? I don't go around telling non-military that they can't comment on military actions. Hell, it happens all of the time on this board.

I am a combat veteran (like many on this board) with PTSD. I will tell you this, if I got pulled over for a DUI, that would be the end of my career - period.

You are correct, that there is only one side of story. Maybe they were also high on crack?

KevDen, you've been a great resource on here. I don't want to come across as bitter or an LEO basher, I'm just tired of seeing this stuff get more and more prevalent.

Elhuero,

Please spare the PC crap. "They are people just like you and me". So are murderers, rapists, and drug dealers. What would two Aurora cops have PTSD from? From cops being killed in another state? RIP cops in SD, but come on, what a COP out. Yes the media is biased, but the breathalyzer and the beer in a squad car...is not. Call me nuts, but when I was little I looked up to Police Officers, and thought they always held themselves at a higher standard because I saw them like that, and they were there to protect and serve. And unless I've ever served I don't know the stresses? So that gives you the right as cop to drink and drive because its soooo stressful, or rough up someone because it soo stressful? Really man? No, it doesn't one bit and I'm tired of hearing it. If my job was so stressful it made me drink and drive at 6pm on my way home from work, well shit I'd have to say that's not the job for me.

Just so you guys know I am tired of seeing this crap. I don't get DUI's, I don't put myself in situations off duty that would cost me a job or get me in any trouble. The public is always watching us. When these guys screw up, it makes all of us look bad. I am really tired of it.

And yes, it sounds to be that Elhuero was being sarcastic, but I think he was also referring to the CSP Trooper that was DUI in his patrol car then claimed to have PTSD as a reason for doing it. I actually don't know what ever came of that either.

Oooops, sorry Elhuero. It's kinda difficult to see when someone is smiling, frowing or whatever it may at their computer. And I've been short all week anyway, trying to quit chewing, and just fed up with shit, thus my rant on Monday.

KevDen- That's awesome to hear. From a civi standpoint, when the world seems a mess with Obama, Afghanistan etc, then on top of that we have our sworn local protectors doing this kind of stuff and beating guys up, it makes us civilians feel very unsafe and leery of trusting you guys at all, because hell we don't know if we're gonna get you on the next traffic stop or a cop who's hungover and wants to beat some ass.

Elhuero- Sorry again man, I'm dumb and feel bad. Buy ya beer? [Beer]

This! I agree with Uber, I think that cops are forced to hold themselves to a higher standard than the normal everyday Joe. Hell, I have PTSD and saw some pretty horrid shit in Afghannyland, but do you see me using that as an excuse when I screw up? No. I man the f*ck up and take my lashings.
I'm willing to bet that Kev is one of the good ones who even when slightly impaired would resort to getting a sober ride, in fact, I'll put money on that, because the good LEOs have this thing called 'integrity' and without that they shouldn't be doing the job. I've seen a couple of my friends on Lakewood PD and one on Jeffco do a little rule bending for fellow officers and upon stopping them for DUI they usually give them a ride home and keep it under wraps. But these guys were in their POVs and not in a "stolen" (as I see this APD case as) police vehicle. I think it's bullshit for people to say "the stress is so high" and "they were seeking a release from their stressful job," if you can't handle the stress seek a new career. We had guys in the box crack under the stress of combat, and guess what? We put them in low-stress support positions, not back out on mission and soon after redeployment they were command ordered to get an evaluation to see if they still could do their MOS, if not, re-class or chapter. There is no room for f-ck ups in a job where lives depend on you, much like with FD's and PD's. So no, I don't want to hear the stress card cop out or the PTSD cop out, sorry excuses right there. /rant

All of this stuff is a good reason that I would NEVER open carry unless I'm in the wilderness. You're just looking for a confrontation with local PD, and like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get!
I try to live my life very low key, attract no attention, make no noise. When I am in the presence of PD, and they're talking to me- it's yes sir, no sir, you're right sir.

You guys are missing the good point. Cops arrested cops. They would have just let them go a few years ago and then covered for them. I'm sure the arresting officers didn't want to do it but they did their job. There may be light at the end of the tunnel.

I will not bash or defend these men. And I will not take a "holier than thou" stand either. We have all done something incredably stupid and have had the luck not to be caught. There may be a few on the forum that do not drink or get intoxicated from other substances, good on ya. But I am going to guess most have driven a motor vehicle loaded. Shit, I have ridden my horse fucked up, luckily he liked me....

This is the point. I am ex LEO years ago, ex military(where I really learned to drink)... But if LEO's are gonna play this kind of game,,, they should remember that one of us civilians (whom LEO's seem to have a lack of respect for) maybe the ones who could have your back someday.

In todays society and the way the economy is sliding we're all gonna be in the same boat. The libtards and corrupt politicians are trying to screw us all.

How many LEO's will be able to tell a law abiding, legal gun owning , hard working American citizen from a piece of shit when the shit hits the fan?? But then again, how are us lowly civilians gonna be able to tell an honest duty bound cop from a piece of shit low life badge carrier...??

All of us, black, white, brown , green, purple it don't matter have got to unite to figure what the fuck we're gonna do to get our country back...

And what exactly is keeping you from putting in an application with Aurora? They do not require a police academy for their entry level.

I actually thought about becoming a cop with Aurora. Considered it pretty heavily actually. But I've already got my career path chosen, and it would require too much of a change in schedule to pursue kung fu.
