View Full Version : New tattoo idea...
So I know a lot of you guys on here aren't pro-tattoo, so your input is a moot point falling on deaf ears... but for those of you that are, I would like some input. I'm wanting to get a new tattoo probably on my back but would like some opinions on what kind of lettering and where the hell I go to get it that is a good quality reputable place...
Here's what I want:
"Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"
The Latin phrase meaning "If you wish for peace, prepare for war." It will probably go on my upper back/shoulder area. I was thinking like some sort of script type lettering like olde English style, but not sure of any good shops to get it done at since my old artist moved out of Colorado while I was stationed out of state.
Thanks.

Can't help you on that one. The one and only tattoo I have is a set of airborne wings from when I was a lowly E1 [ROFL1]

Sounds sweet. But a word of caution: I have some Latin on my left tricep. EVERYBODY that sees it asks what it means. People probably won't see yours as much since it's on your back, but be prepared to do some translating for everybody that does.
Good luck finding an artist. I'm new in town so I don't know anybody, but if you find a good one let me know. My wife and I both want to get some new ink.

Thin'k Tank on S. Broadway.
They are clean and wrap even the cord of the machine with disposables.
That' where me and my wife go...

+1 on this. I have 2 latin tattoos and EVERYBODY that sees em asks what they mean.
Dark Millennia on Broadway and Quincy. Van (the owner) does some damn good work, is OCD about the shop being clean, and is a gun/jeep guy. And, unless he thinks you're a douche he usually gives you a pretty good price on his work (usually lower than what he quotes prior to starting)... but don't tell him I told you that.

Get a big "W" on each asscheek. Then when you do cartwheels it'll say "wow mom wow!"

Mantra Tattoo off wads and colfax 303.239.8282, ask for Ben. Personal friend of mine (for almost 20 years) . If he feels like he is not the best person in the shop to do it he will refer you. Also he is one hell of a normal artist if you want to get his opinion of it.
Sniper, where did you find that! I've wanted an ode to CO tatted somewhere- probably on my calf- for a long time and that would be perfect. Mind if I add that to the pile of "to gets"?

I'm well aware of this, I have this:

I'm constantly translating to people what "Veritas/Aequitas" means, it can be annoying but it's whatever, it's my favorite tat.
Get a tat of CHUCK NORRIS on your chest,,, then you won't have to work out anymore.

One of my peeves is people who use font that takes a long stare to read. My step son has "Southern Creed" on his forearms. He chose a font that I honestly couldnt make out til he told me what it stated. Fail in my book.

Colin at Red Sky Tattoo in Castle Rock is INCREDIBLE, if you're that far south. He is truly an artist, and will draw something up for you personally if you wish. You can give suggestions, or let him use his imagination.

Or the owner of red sky or Ryan at red sky. They are the three I recommend to people.
Red Sky is on Wilcox in downtown Cwstle Rock.
This is America, and you are American. That tattoo better be in God Damned English!

a quick use of the search function would give you 1 if not 2 threads asking where to get a tattoo. Military Intelligence i gather was your MOS:)
I personally think you should go to the prisons down in canon city and see what one of those guys can draw up for you. I imagine they are pretty good with what they have to work with

Well, after that, just hope he isn't JTAC qualified and has a training accident. Accidental misses do happen. Just ask the Chinese Embassy guys running all the Sigint gear a few years back in Bosnia. Well, ok. Ask someome that knew them.

I like the phrase, but everyone will ask you what it means, just have it printed in Spanish so they all will know not to mess with you! haha!

"Si usted desea para la paz, prepárate para la guerra."
Except I don't like how Spanish sounds... call it my prejudice or what have you, but I always equate Spanish with "dirty illegal Mexican."

It's a good quote, but I wouldn't put it on me... too common. I can count 4 people I know personally that have the same line.
When coming up with tattoo ideas, my rule is that if I can type "____ tattoo" into google and come up with lots of pictures, its too common and I don't want it.
The thing I don't get is why everyone wants to put other languages on their body? why not put english? most people on here bitch about illegals, other languages, pressing 1 for english, etc. yet, it is acceptable to put another language in ink under your skin?
maybe just so people ask you about it and what it means?

As a Spaniard, that is sad, but true... (and yes, I mean my family is from Spain)

Just because you wouldnt put it on you doesnt mean anything at all.
I tattoo stuff all day that I wouldnt put on myself, but I still appreciate it.
Thats the cool thing about YOUR tattoo, its YOURS.
You dont have to explain it to anyone, you dont have to tell people what it means or says or even the idea behind it.
Its your personal business.
Its similar to your rifle setup, preference, only more personal

very happy with the results

That's the WORST part of my tattoo. Every time I see it, I wish it was someone else's so I could laugh at them. When people catch a glimpse of it, I tell them it is a bruise. A big, gay bruise.

Your tattoo sounds good, but the placement is wrong, it should go across your extreme lower back below the belt lie...[LOL]

All Mexicans can read old English (except me). All their tattoos are written in it.

You can't slut in the air in Colorado without it landing on a tattoo shop.

Those are just a few damn good ahops. And I have never heard of a shop that doesn't cover everything in disposable wrap. Guess I have been lucky to never go to an unclean shop.
