View Full Version : Starting the "Zombie Gun" project.
Don't get too exited yet, the project has just begun. Starting with my Stoeger 2000 semi-auto 12 gauge. Just ordered a magazine extension tube from Nordic Components today. Hopefully it will arrive later this week. Capacity after installation will be 8+1 or 9+1 if I "ghost load" the weapon. That's right, 10 rounds of 12 gauge on hand to fend off the undead. Here is a "before" picture. Will update with photos as the project goes along and will probably shoot a little video when it is done.

9 or 10 shot? Not a good car gun! Unless you're outside of it!

That's OK. It's not being built for use from inside a vehicle. [Coffee]

Will do. I should have the magazine extension later in the week. I will get that installed and take a picture and then I plan on getting with BPTactical and having him shorten the barrel to be even with the magazine tube. Then I will have a tritium front sight installed and will need to order a clamp to go between the magazine extension and the barrel for added stability. Then... who knows.
Magazine extension tube shipped from Cactus Tactical today. Hopefully will have it in a few days. I will install it and take a picture before I get in touch with BPTactical about cutting the barrel back to be even with the tube.

I am thinking 9 white star flare rounds. Ever see what happens when one hits the inside of a car that has the window open? [Flower]

Nope. Might have to search Youtube for a video. [Coffee]
The magazine tube extension showed up today. Seems to be a very nice piece. I installed it and gave BPTactical a call and will take it to him tomorrow to see about having the barrel shortened to be even with the magazine tube. Will update this post as things progress.

Nice!
Just got back from dropping the barrel off to have it shortened. Haven't decided what to do about a front sight just yet. I was thinking something with tritium but now I am leaning more towards something fiber optic instead. Thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Looks real nice! Are you going to add Nordics' clamp w/pic. rail? Love mine-best on market!

Yep. I will probably get that ordered sometime this weekend. I just want to figure out what I want to do for a front sight and order everything at once.

Inspired me to Start a Saiga-12 Shotgun Project! Look for the start of my thread very soon! I will title it "Saigalilanov-12" Look forward to seeing your finished project!
OK. The barrel is shortened and back on. I still need to order my magazine tube clamp and decide what kind of front sight to run. I can't decide between a tritium front sight or something fiber optic.

Thanks. I actually decided to go with a tritium one. Hope to get it ordered this weekend. [Awesom]

Do you have a build thread for that?

Nope but I am sure some google fu might bring it up. I just had remember seeing it in a video game blog.

FWIW, I prefer the fiber optic sights. With even a little light they're visible and in daylight they're impossible to miss seeing!
I'm using fiber on both my Win1300 defender and M1S90.
Congrats on the progress -- it's looking good!
Did it lighten up any with the shorter barrel?
Did it lighten up any with the shorter barrel?
I doubt it. I imagine whatever slight amount of weight I lost by taking about 7" off the barrel was probably offset by adding the magazine extension tube. It is a thin, light-weight shotgun to begin with so shedding a few ounces wasn't one of my goals for it.
Think I will put this up for sale in the classified section soon. I really didn't have a use for it anymore in its original sporting configuration so I thought I would tinker with it and change the configuration. Now that the tinkering is nearly done I really still don't have a use for it. [Coffee]
I thought for sure you were building this for 3 gun.
I thought for sure you were building this for 3 gun.
It would probably make a great 3-gun shotgun for someone just getting into the sport. Heck, it would probably just make a good 3-gun shotgun for anyone. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to compete. I would rather see it go to someone who will put it to use and enjoy it rather than it just sit in my safe.
The front sight and magazine clamp have been ordered. Hopefully they will arrive later this week and I can get it finished.
Finally got it done. Went with a simple brass bead for durability. The Nordic Components clamp is very nice and fits perfectly. Passed it on to it's new owner this morning but thought I should post up a couple of final pictures.

Thanks again ray, I'm really liking the gun so far. The only really bad thing is the CO-AR15 sticker on the stock is starting to peel on one of the bolt lugs. I'm considering stenciling the design with painters tape and just painting it on the stock.

The 3-gun setup has officially been rounded out! I think the beautiful firearms draw the focus away from my ugly mug... [Coffee]

What about painting over the sticker and fading the paint out away from it so it's kind of a reverse coloring of what's on there now? It would save you the trouble of trying to stencil it on there.

That would be neat, but theres a fine line between something like that looking cool, and it looking like total shit.
I'd have to figure something out to make it look ok. ideas?

Create a square stencil around it and spray it the entire thing white then pull the sticker so that you have the square border around it and then the Co-AR15 sticker in black inside it.
That would probably be the easiest way to keep a clean line without having to worry about fading out the white on the edges.

That just might be a project for tomorrow...
Paint is rarely a permanent thing. Usually a little lacquer thinner or acetone and some elbow grease will take off anything you do that ends up looking like $hit. Then you just try something else. [Coffee]

Ok, so basically, I tried the sencil idea, and it pretty much looked like the abominable snowman took a dump on the gun. I tried to get it off, but through most everything (carb cleaner, silicon remover, lacquer thinner, etc), it still looked horrible.
I then found the god of all paint strippers (for polymers anyway). DOT3 brake fluid! have you ever seen someone spill a container of brake fluid on their fender when theyre filling up the master cylinder on their car? Same concept here. Threw a little DOT3 on a shop towel, and voila! paint exterminated!
so now I dont have a cool CO-AR15 sticker on the shotgun anymore, but I dont have a stock that looks like a dumbass 16 year old kid got ahold of it either (wait a minute....[Tooth])
