Overheard a united pilot this morning telling ground control about an "un-identifiable" animal on the taxiway. The pilot, being a "CO native", called it an "overweight prairie dog" and ground asked if it was really a Sasquatch?... It was an interesting conversation over frequency. I was intrigued, so I headed that way. It was aN American Badger, and he looked a bit confused and pissed. I have never seen one of those, here, before and the last time I saw one must have been over 10 years ago.
I've never seen on and I'm a CO Native. An "over weight Prairie Dog" description would have made me guess a Marmot personally.

I saw 3 of them trotting along a dirt road east of town about 3 years ago. It was the first time I had ever seen one.

I saw one between Rock Springs, WY and Rawlins. Fugger was pretty aggressive when I jumped out of the car. He almost collected a .40 for his disposition.

Except for marmots don't live at low altitude (below ~8000 feet or so).

He said it was a pilot, so obviously they were at high altitude. I win.

They were still on the ground.

I was coming back from Kansas late one night and needed a bathroom really bad, so I stopped at Ben Lomond Gun Club to use a portajohn. Decided to look around afterwards with a flashlight and pick up some brass while I was there.
I was on range 4, and hear a wierd clicking noise. There was two badgers that had come out of a den dug into one of the side berms, and they were rather pissed that I'd disturbed their peaceful evening. The clicking was them snapping their jaws. They couldn't see me because I had my Jeep parked and running, with the headlights shining down the range.
I just moved over to another range and let 'em be. Yeah, looking for brass at 2am with a flashlight, I'm pretty fucked up I guess. [Tooth]
Badgers are mean little bastards, had one attack the tire of my truck once.
I had one chase me off the 9th green at Buffall Run Golf course (104th and Chambers) a few years back! It scared the hell out of me as I walked up to my ball just off the rough and saw a wicked set of teeth coming out of the waist high grass hissing! I believe i set a course record for fewest steps back to my cart!
Sitting in the cart, I watched it cruise back and forth around the green before disappearing back into cover. Those things are mean lookin' little bastards!

Never seen one here either. I'm pretty much native (got here when I was very young), although I have left and come back on different occasions for years at a time.
And I am pretty sure the honey badger doesn't give a shit, he's a nasty-ass.
Mean little critters.
More than happy to trade places on the food chain with you if they feel threatened.

I see them all the time out near Sterling when shooting prairie dogs. Even had one run over and start munching on a prairie dog right after I shot it.

The wife and I were were coming down a mountain road in the Meeker Co. area. The road was rough, was traveling maybe 5 mph., we came into this clearing and from out of nowhere came this badger. We were still moving and he started attacking my front tire. Might have been a female protecting her young, maybe it was rabid I don't know, didn't hang around long enough to find out ....wierd huh!

I wacked a few Badgers earlier this year. A very unpleasant dispostition. And direct competition for P-Dogs. Marmots (yellow bellied) do live at elevations below 8k, I have shot multiples of them at 5-7K. CO has a season on them, but on private land they make a cool noise when hit with a 40gr v-max. They are super destuctive to hay meadows and buildings. They breed like rabbits, one of the guys that we shoot with killed 17 in his front yard a couple of years ago.
