Just curious what some of you guys opinions are regarding this weapon. I find the concept intriguing and have done a ton of research on it, read many a message board thread both pro and con. But wanted to see what some local folks think.

Expensive and not readily available ammo, hard to find parts for... not my cup of tea.

My brother has one and I remember reading about it befor it came out and thought it was really cool, but I purchased a 22 TCM to compete with my brother, I dont know if you are a 1911 guy or if you just really want a FN but I put up a post on getting a tcm for a limited time directly from Fred Craig. Just a little about the gun, it comes with 2 18 round mags and also comes with a 9mm barrel just switch out the barrel and you can shoot 9mm, it takes para p18 mags which brings it up to 20+1 all in a 1911 frame also has LPA sights and the guns coming from Fred are not the guns that will be at gun shops these guns have a different serial number like mine does, and they have more power than a 5.7x28 and 250 cheaper.

I really like my Five-seveN. It fits my hand nicely and I find the sights work well for me. I find it is very easy to shoot accurately with it. I enjoy shooting it.

It comes with a mag safety which I don't like but it can be disabled very easily and it can be returned to normal just as easy.

Ammo isn't cheap so I don't shoot it as much as some other guns but I have never had a problem finding ammo.

You say it has more power than the 5.7 (at least the shitty commercial stuff) but I cannot find any ballistics info. Except for some FPS numbers that are very similar to the 5.7 and doesn't seem to be anywhere near the performance of the EA stuff (of course at $57 bucks a box it better be great).
However I have always been a 1911 fancier so I do find it interesting. I wonder if it will be as difficult to reload as the 5.7 is supposed to be. It also disturbes me that this is the same guy that makes the Merc11 that from what I understand is bloody fantastic but vaporware.

BTW thanks for the PM, I will definitely try and garner some more info about this weapon.

I am paying 395 for 1000 rds, I am not sure of the cost of ammo for the FN, from what I understand they will have more options on ammo, the 40 gr that will go between 2100 and 2300 fps out of a 5 inch barrel.

I don't know but everytime someone brings it up its immediately followed by the term vaporware. Not alot of information on it on the net either but its supposed to be very good. Your guess is as good as mine.

Your guess is as good as mine. I cant find much on it either I sent Fred an email I asked for the specs and pricing info. I tell you what if you like 1911's you will really like the TCM it has no slide to frame movement unbelieveably accurate and the muzzle flash is awsome, I am going to have a 38 super barrel for it and maybe even a 9x23 not sure yet, I am still researching the 9x23.

When did burglars begin wearing body armor?
I know you currently have a beef with your local PD ATRAIN, but sheesh!

I have a friend who owns one that let me shoot a few mags through it. I wasn't particularly fond...that long cartridge makes for a big grip and I have small hands so it wasn't very comfortable, and the gun itself is pretty freaking big. Also I'm not a fan of the polymer slide, I know it's super strong and all that good stuff, bu tit makes the gun feel like a toy.

Just my opinion. Actually shooting it was fun, I just don't like the ergonomics.

I hear that alot about it I think it is a cool gun but I went with the tcm instead for the same reason, dont get me wrong I like it but not enough to spend over 1000 on one. I ended up with my favorate platform and a stronger round and the bonus is it sounds like a ar15 when you fire the tcm.

For what it's worth the slide is steel with a plastic cover. It adds to the overall toy feeling that plastic guns have. I tend to ask myself 'Is this for real?' whenever I pick up any plastic gun.

You meant the baby Five seveN?

Yes I have. It's fun too. I prefer to shoot the FN. I have problems with any light weight gun. I have to remember to hang on to it strong enough to handle the recoil and not just the weight. The KelTec is slipperier too.

No I haven't. I've been under the impression that getting a hold of one of those is like jumping through your own butthole...

Actually, this trend is on the rise in many large cities. Most of them run without plates, but there are those that do. Its the new gangsta fashion trend.

I know you currently have a beef with your local PD ATRAIN, but sheesh! It was a tactical vest if you are talking about the picture I had up for a bit holding a gun with a silencer. And I have no beef with the PD they were actualy very impresed with my collection and how I have them stored (climate controled safes) Just to clear that up and Burglar were did that come from I have a sence of humor unlike most on here but thats just dumb.

I guess I dont understand your post, I am 30 years old I think I am a little old to be a gangsta LOL you guys must be bored man how did we get from 5.7 opinions to me wearing my tac vest right when I woke up to take a picture for someone thats the reason for the rag on my head, If you pay close attention I had not even got dressed yet but I will play along I got a better picture to put up it is more gangsta for you.

I guess I dont understand your post

Yeah, guess not. I haven't even seen the picture you're referencing. Read my post, and tell me what part of it makes you think I'm talking about you.
I saw a post asking about body armor, and maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was in reference to the 5.7 being a "body armor killer" (even though the variety you get at the gun store is not likely to do so) and since criminals don't wear body armor, its unneeded. Seeing vests on "gangstas" is becoming more and more common, and... well, read my last post for the rest of that thought.

Sorry I thought it was cause of the way I was dressed My mistake I have been judged a few times because of the earings and tattoo's, I dont know were the burglar thing came from either, I was going to ask what you were reffering to and maybe I should have and were are gang members getting and wearing body armor that is kind of interesting.

If I had to guess, they probably get it the same places they get their guns.
I haven't heard/seen much about this in the Denver area (then again, I avoid it like the plague), but many major cities are seeing their "low income minorities" walking around with vests. Its more of a fashion trend than actually for use, most cases they don't even have real plates in em, but I'm sure some do and I'm sure if the market for the real stuff increases then so will the availability.

We bought ours around early 2005.
ITs my spouse's favorite, and one of my favorite.

Ammo is now more available. Cheaper than 45LC.
However, I noticed that FiveSeven's price went up past 2-3 yrs.

I am a long member of fiveseven forum and FNforum (formerly ps90 forum). IT might give you more insight on FiveSeven. It is probably BETTER to get your opinion from people who actually owned it (or former owners).

I dont own one but I have fired my brothers 5.7 and I own a TCM and there is no comparison to the TCM it has more power and as far as looks and ergonomics the 1911 TCM is metal and gives you the feel of a real gun, Dont get me wrong I like the FN 5.7x28 I am not saying it is not a good gun I think alot of people dont like the price tag not the gun, but you just cant compare it to a 1911 TCM, IMO the TCM has it beat in every way it can with a better price tag.

I actually am a member of fiveseven and FNforum and its a treasure trove of information. I finally fondled one at GMG the other day. Wasnt super in love with the ergonomics likely because I have small hands. However I dont care for the ergo's of the doublestack 1911's either. Frankly I find the .22 TCM interesting but I have seen nothing in terms of ballistics that shows its more powerful, in fact the opposite. So bottom line I'm still on the fence, but I also still have a few weeks till I have the money anyway. It may be a moot point anyway as I may not have enough to buy it, in which case I will just get single stack RIA 1911.
