"they shouldn’t be breaking into people's homes" said Titus County Sheriff Tim Ingra (http://www.dailytribune.net/articles/2011/08/16/news/doc4e4a9f62218dc365505876.txt)

I wonder how that would work in Colorado, being that businesses are not included in the make my day law.

How dare the Sheriff advocate taking violent means to protect yourself. Somebody could get hurt. I mean the guys breaking in are the real victims, they can't wait until the end of the month for their welfare checks, they have to feed their 37 children. Afterall it is only right for the shop owner to share his wealth with the poor victims.
Its all because of the guns, if nobody had them then nobody would get shot.
(Insert sarcasm here)
Jesus I almost made myself hurl typing that.................I guess I don't type "Liberalize" so well.

I believe a person's life must be in imminent danger before the suspect can be put down, at which time, don't exceed 3 rounds, it must be on video, or have a reliable witness present during entire event. It means if the camera gets damaged/not working, and the only witness is a crackhead, you better hire Cochran.

Or just set up a little bedroom in back of your shop and say you live there.....

I used to work in an Army Surplus store...and we used to spend the night there. We never got robbed or burgled. We had pistols, Ar's and even a fancy Striker shotgun. But yeah we slept there, BBQ'd there...so I guessed we lived there.
These guys are forced to commit crime to pay for Obama care...

the article said it was also his home.
if there are sleeping quarters on the premises it would be included under the law. as well as in your shop at home. if you have sleeping quarter it qualifies.
he had a gun i was afraid for my life, make my day or not i'd say he was within his right to return fire.
break into my shop and steal one of my guns, bet your ass i am going to shoot you, make my day or not,

I think everyone here agrees with you.
In Colorado, you can carry openly or concealed without a permit in your business or the area under its "immediate control" (like the parking lot). All normal rules concerning force and self defense would apply, so if you felt that you or another person were in "danger of death or great bodily harm" you would be justified in using whatever amount of force was necessary to end the threat. Lesser known is the fact that you can be issued a CHP by a county in which you own or lease property for your business. I made use of this provision, as my business is about 5 minutes from the Taj Mahal here in Golden, but I live in Adams County. Logistically, getting my permit from Adams would have been a PITA, as at that time they were only accepting applications 1 or 2 days a week between 9 and 11 and 1300 and 1500. Jeffco was much easier to deal with, and the only additional documentation they wanted was a photocopy of the lease.

Interesting take on things.
I've never heard of a three round cap on SD shootings. I've also dealt with my fair share of SD shootings which didn't include video or reliable third party wits.
Video would be neat though. [Pop]

The building serves as both home and business for West, who was not at the scene at the time of the crime.
Does it have some section for the defense of a home you are a guest in?

Yes, you are covered as a guest. You only need be in "control" of the property for it to apply. There is no restrictions on if you are outside or not, unlike dumb ass tupperware guy thinks.
rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. always the final answer.

Yes, yes it would. You could have it playing on a bigscreen in your store to deter any would-be shitheads.
“Burglars need to realize that if they don’t want to get shot, they shouldn’t be breaking into people’s homes”
Probably one of the best quotes I've heard from a sheriff in a while.
Poor innocent minorities...getting picked on by the man. They were just trying to take what was rightfully theirs, redistribute the wealth.
He was redistributing the wealth...
bullets cost money! ;)
