To call them at 11:45 to check on your house and family?
My neighbor just called me frantically worried about his wife and asked me to check on her because she was home alone with the kids, has a health issue and hadn't answered her phone for for a few hours.
All is well, my knocking on the door woke her up and she answered his call, then came out to talk to me so I didn't think "they were crazy" according to her.
It is kind of cool to know he trusts me enough call me in the middle of the night to make sure his family is okay. (He also knows that I am armed and have two large dogs) My cell number is in all of their phones for emergencies including his young son, just in case.
I am wondering how many of you have neighbors like that who you would call or they would call you to do the same? In my experience a lot of the places I have lived in I barely have known my neighbors. This reminds me to meet and get my girlfriend's neighbors numbers, just in case.
I could call a few of them, but I don't have any of their numbers and don't want most of them to have mine. I live in an apartment though.
I have about 3 neighbors that I can trust. One of them is a member here. My kids know to go to his house if they are in any trouble if Mom and Dad aren't around for whatever reason.
He came through on one occasion!
My neighbor at the end of the block is a shooting buddy and, while not LEO, is very conscientious of weird/suspicious activity. I wouldn't hesitate to have him stop by if need by. Personally, I don't live but 5 minutes from my patrol area, so if something strange was afoot, I would go out of service and check on things in person if able. If not, then I would have an officer from our local agency stop by.

My neighbors' were out of town (parents) and they left their high school senior son at home. Well, he wasn't answering the phone and so Karen (the mom) called and asked my Dad's Wife if she could see his car in the driveway.
She looked over and saw the front door wide open. Told Karen she'd call her back in a few. She went over, yelled his name and heard the showed on upstairs, so she went to investigate. Opened the door and found him sitting in the bathtub, leaned against the side of the tub looking paler than an albino.
She called an ambulance, even though she was a nurse practicioner, then called my dad over (a doctor) and were getting him help.
Turns out, he went to a party and got so drunk, that his friends drove him home, stripped him of his clothes and threw him in a cold shower and left him. He nearly died of severe alcohol poisoning AND hypothermia.
When they told me that I couldn't believe it, I mean I always knew their kids would get into trouble even though the parents pushed them through every kind of accelerated learning program, they were just the "party" type. I think that would have really affected me though if I saw him that way, or anyone for that matter. I can't believe people can be so stupid that they keep drinking until they blackout and then keep drinking even more! He nearly died, but because Karen trusted my dad's wife and called her, he lived.
(side note, we lived in that house since 1989, and this happened back in 2006 I believe. Dad married the wife in 2000).
I'm the type of person that when coming home from work, if I see a neighbor outside, I make sure the garage door is open when my car gets to the house and if the neighbor starts walking over to my house to talk, I make sure I time it so I get the car inside and the garage door starting to close....
But I too can count on several of my neighbors for something like that. It is nice to know. They too can call me and have me do the same thing.
When the dipwad neighbor kid burglarized my house, we banded together to keep an eye on the kid and on each others place...
One I do, he is in the early stages of dementia and his wife is in very poor health so I watch things, the kids have my number and I have theirs. There are nurses every day and in the winter I keep the walk clean.
My other neighbors are elderly and while they are nice if you start to do them favors they quickly begin to expect it. I don't like that so I stopped doing favors for them.
I do have a neighbor I keep an eye on due to his very aggressive and barking dog. This guy is a jerk and he doesn't like any of us because we called animal control on his POS dog.
My neighbor across the alley has asked me to keep an eye on things in the past when she goes on vacation.
I have a few close friends that just live a few blocks down. Know a few next door neighbors, but not enough to trust them in my house. I've only live here for 4 years.

I am lucky that we have each other's backs here in my neighborhood. We are all on 2 acre parcels out here, but I know them better than when I lived in an area where my neighbors were 12-20 feet from me.

I am lucky enough to have 4 different family house holds with in a 10 minute drive. But to stay on topic, I would not trust any of my neighbors and only maybe two of my past neighbors. That being said I am happy to hear you provide a safe trusting environment in your neighborhood!

We have two sets of neighbors on our block that fit this mold. A couple of years ago, we left the kids with my mom and the wife and I hit Vegas. Our neighbor called us at about 12 midnight to tell us that our garage was still up. We gave her the code and she walked across the street and closed it for us. :)
Only interacted with the guy next door one time. He was trying to get a camper shell up on his F-250. I'm sitting at the table having some breakfast watching this guy through my window make three different attempts to get this camper on by himself and three times fail. Didn't want to but me being a stupid fuck that helps ungrateful assholes from time to time put my shoes on and walked over to see if he needed a hand. He's still standing at the back of the truck looking at it and I asked him if he needed a hand. He just says "NOPE" and walks off into his garage. [Coffee]

Two of my neighbors have the code to my garage door and I have theirs. If I need to borrow something like a tool or some sugar and they are not home I don't even call them. I just go over and get it. Likewise for them if I am not around.
We are very good friends with the neighbors across the street, I trust them with my boys and they trust us with their kids, they even have my oldest son watch their three little kids sometimes.
My parents never lock their doors keys are always in the vehicles we routinely watch the neighbors animals and stuff along those lines. Go to their house and grab stuff you get the idea. One of the joys of living In bfe
I don't trust my neighbors as far as I can throw them.
Dude next door is famil with the landlord so I try not to talk to him much.
Girl downstairs is pretty hot but also in cahoots with the LL.
Kid across the street has an ankle monitor and let's his ugly ass dog run around without a leash. C'mon man, there's little kids all over the place.

I wish I knew more of my neighbors, we have a "wave when passing" relationship, but don't talk much. We're just renting for the next few months, but at our new home I plan on getting to know the neighbors on a more personal basis.

Three of 4 neighbors I can trust, and would call them or they can call me, no problem. And we have a few times for situations.
Other bunch on the corner, I don't trust.
A few others I can trust too, I've got it pretty good for neighbors.

Slut.
I'd call Byte Stryke and have him run over to my place to check it out.
my family is all close enough, but I have a few neighbors I would trust enough to come check on things.
my hood is pretty good. only a couple houses close by I don't know well.

I'm UNlucky enough to have 8 houses occupied by relatives within a 15 min drive, with 6 of those being within 5 min. I don't trust any of them with my opsessions/offspring.
