Springfield is offering a test drive of the XDm 5.25 Competition series from Aug. 19 -29. http://www.the-m-factor.com/html/home.html.
The wife and I took the test drive at Whistling Pines Gun Club in Co. Springs. I'm not much for 9mm, but its a nice shooter, and I like the fiber optic front site. The wife likes her XDm 3.8" compact 9mm a little better wrt size and weight.
I just wanted to let folks know about this opportunity.
I'm hoping to se it come in .45 auto.

Graves has so many .45s that he doesn't have any inclination to shoot some of them. Or sell one to someone who wants to![Muaha]

I'd like to see it in .45 too...
I bet if it kicks off they will produce a .45. So if you want one buy a 9mm!

I would think there is no advantage to a competition pistol in 45 that is not a 1911. I imagine 9 and 40 only
There's a huge advantage for those of us who primarily shoot/reload in 45.
Its funny how EVERY time a new gun comes out in a single caliber there always has to be a group of people crying about it not being available in a different caliber.
The XDm 5.25 Competition series pistol is built for the intended purpose of being used in USPSA competitions in the Production Division. Production Division guns are primarily 9mm and some times .40 caliber because all the scored hits are assmuming Minor Power Factor is being used. Nobody in their right mind would use a .45 caliber pistol in Production Division due to them being at a significant disadvantage both in recoil management and cost to shoot in competition.
This is a purpose built competition pistol that is intended to be used in USPSA Production Division. If they initially released it in any caliber other than 9mm they would be crazy.
Will they release 5.25's in other calibers down the road? Probably, but that effort will always be playing second fiddle to the primary intent of releasing this pistol.

I wish S&W would come out with a competition-grade M&P at a higher level than the Pro.
I shot the XDM 5.25 last week. Not impressed. It is still just a made in Croatia HS-2000 with Lipstick.

[Eek3] I'm confused, what makes the M&P Pro any less competition-grade then the XDM 5.25 or even Glock 34? the lack of an extra .25 on the barrel?

Supposedly, the 5.25 has tighter tolerances than that of previous XDm's. [Dunno]

What more do you need in an M&P Pro that can’t be easily and cheaply done on your own to make it 100% competition ready? All you need is a $25 APEX competition spring kit and some basic trigger action polishing and you can easily get a crisp and smooth 2.25lb trigger pull. Do you really want S&W to do those things for you and charge another $200 - $300 for it?
I am sure that you would still have to do a trigger job on the new XDm 5.25 to get the trigger pull below 3lbs. So I am not sure the new XDm is as awesome as you think it is right out of the box.

I got to run one and the trigger didn't feel much different than a stock XD. Recoil management and slide speed where nothing to write home about. Better than standard? A little. M&P Pro is still better in almost every way. If you're hard core XD, then it's a step in the right direction, but I think there are better platforms for the guy who wants to get jiggy on the buzzer.
