Holy crap I really like this gun. Much less recoil than I expected, and I'm more accurate with it than I am with my .30-30 at 100m... and I'm pretty good with my .30-30. Probably due to the different sights.
Took it out to further distances (400m), and while there are more accurate guns out there it shoots MOH (Minute Of Hajji) just fine.
I do really like this cartridge, thinking about getting a PSL sometime in the future.

No pics of the targets, but here's a couple from an unsuccessful coyote hunt with it that evening (was camping all weekend).

I've always had fun with my 91/30's. Believe it or not, got into the guns from the Metal Gear series...

WOLVERINES!!!! [MG]

That's hilarious! That's exactly what I thought when I looked at the photos. I expected to see a Russian tank rolling across that valley.

I always liked the M38. No bayo on the end makes it light and clean looking. The x54r cartridge is no slouch, either.

I'm sorry to say I have no Russian surplus guns in my safe. Maybe I should while ammo is still relatively inexpensive.

What year and arsenal is it? Surplus or commercial ammo?

1944 Izhevsk... not sure on the ammo. Came in a brown paper box of 20 with no printed labels or logos, copper washed casing, and shot dirty as hell, so I believe it was surplus... but this is my first and only gun that shoots surp. so I don't really know how to ID it.

Nice. We have an M38 and a M91/30. The M38 kicks less then the M91/30 but damn does it spit fire LOL. Your ammo sounds like the Russian milsurp I have, only I wouldn't call it dirty compared to some of the stuff I've shot [ROFL1]

If you ever want a cheap refinish on the stock - strip the holy living crap outta it and make sure it is dry (I used brakleen IIRC) and then scuff up the wood a little. They have rattle cans of truck bed liner for less then 10 bucks that makes a fairly durable, removable finish on the stock. There is black, gray, brown, and white. And yes, I know they make this stuff called duracoat, but it isn't as dura-ble and doesn't have the non-slip texture of bedliner.
