What would be the easiest thing to do if I wanted to keep the upper but make it more correct looking by adding a flash suppressor and a bayonet lug?
Can I tap the muzzle and change out the front site block with ease?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Not an expert on AR platform but I would remove the barrel and have it threaded on a lathe. Its possible to thread it by hand die but I would be real careful not to get it crooked due to the possibltility of bullet strikes on the muzzle device.

If I'm correct, I believe the bayo lug is on the front sight block which would come off with removing a couple of pins and taping it forward off the barrel.

That's some good advice. I wonder if anyone here can help me out with this project.

Front sight bases are not all the same. It's sometimes a PITA to find one that will fit because the pins/pin holes are not the same from gun to gun. Threading the barrel isn't a problem.

+1 on having BPTactical thread the barrel. I personally could care less about a bayonet lug myself. I think bayonet tactics are a thing of the past. Others may disagree with me. If I was running around with a rifle with a knife hanging off the front I would probably just hurt myself. [Coffee]

while not functional for my needs. if you want to keep "that look" then you will need to change out the front sight assembly.

Ban era barrels are easily threaded to their pre ban glory. By the time you find a TAT and spend the money trying to find a die I will have it done for you.
A couple of different ways to deal with replacing the FSB- I can either use oversized pins or do the "National Match" mod.
Check your PM's DOC.

Just a bump for Bert at BPTactical.

He just threaded a barrel for a muzzle break on one of my rifles and it looks bad ass! He did a great job and it was very affordable!

The bad thing about Bert is, he does such good work that you keep finding more stuff for him to do, so it gets to the point that you go to pick up something from him that he worked on, you give him money for his work and you give him more stuff to do. Then you come pick that stuff up, give him money and give him more stuff to do...the cycle never ends! [Tooth]

In all seriousness, call him and he will take care of you!
