My thoughts exactly. Get paid to hang around out at sea, bed and meals included, occasional target practice with moving targets... sign me up!

I realize my OP might seem a little negative towards PMCs. Its not. In fact, I've always figured its probably what I'd end up doing after I'm done with the military, if I don't have a family by then.

Hell...I'd go try it once. I just don't believe in warning shots. Pirates piss me off.

It's the open sea in which there are no laws... "Pirates, if you play stupid games, you will win stupid prizes". That about sums up how I feel about it.

If you play stupid pirate games, you win 168 grains.

There was an article in America's First Freedom about armed crews on ships. Good read.

Sign me up... I got offered a job by one of the PMCs in Afghanistan, didn't take it because I didn't want to get killed by a nameless, faceless enemy, but here, I'd jump on that. "Garr we be hijacking yer ship!" "I don't think so... BOOM!"
Also, saw a thing that a lot of shipping companies are installing LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Devices) on their ships, emitting over 750+dB.

Found the company mentioned in the article... but a quick google search really didn't yield much else... worth a shot though... although PVI only hires British Royal Marines and similar with sea-faring experience. What about land experiences fmr US .mil members?

One of my colleague's brother is doing this right now.

Last I checked the ships have be careful about how well armed they because it will change them from merchant ships to war ships. Correct me if I am wrong but I think these guys can only carry "personal defense" weapons and such but I am not 100% sure on that one.

I'd love to get a job doing it... I'll say I have 3 weapons I'd use (no need for the company to provide, just let me bring ammo or give me ammo) for defense and I can make every shot count (multiple expert marksmanship badges while serving). Really, I'd love to take a year off from slinging insurance and get some excitement and new experience under my belt and save up some good $$ then be able to buy that 2bd house I want.

A CPT who used to work for me was prior service Coast Guard and did some service as one of those "ship border" dudes. The funny thing was back then they only went in with one .45 and one shotgun. He has a great story of doing some arcade stuff by slinging the .45 round down the bulkhead right into a pirate's head. The other technique was to blast the shotgun at the floor thus taking-out everyone's legs!
