View Full Version : Finally moving...
So I've been looking into apartments near/around 6th & I-70/6th & Simms and may have found the perfect place to move into next month. Now one minor issue... Since this will be my first actual all mine, all by myself (the song just entered my head [Bang] ) apartment, there are a few things I need. To give a background I have a 2TB hard drive with thousands of movies and tv shows on it (since I rarely watch actual TV) and I have for the last few years just used my computer as a medium to play the media and use my 21" monitor as a TV to watch it on. I should also note, I watch Netflix on my computer as well. So my question is: what is the best/easiest way to watch media (HDD Movies and Netflix) from my computer to my new TV I'm getting for the apartment? I know about going through my XBox 360 for Netflix, but getting the movies to stream onto the XBox from my external HD via my computer can be a pain and I have some format compatibility issues too (XBox only allows XVID .avi format and that's only about 2/3 of my collection). Anyone else have a setup like this? [Help]

Congrats on the move.
What type of computer are we talking? Laptop? Desktop? Small form factor?
I built up a small form factor with an HDMI video card hooked up to my TV. Get a wireless network card, wireless keyboard and mouse, all you need is a power plug and the HDMI to the TV. Small enough to tuck away in the TV rack, and you have full control from your couch with the wireless keyboard/mouse.
Congrats on the move.

It's an HP Laptop (although with my video and music production equipment hooked up to it it may as well be a desktop). Here's my issue, the desk is going to go in the bedroom, and the TV in the living room (since I like to watch movies/netflix in bed at times). I don't believe I have an HDMI out on the laptop (I can check) and also the laptop has a blu-ray player -would love to watch my very tiny blu-ray collection on the TV.... so does this muck it up a bit if the source and the TV are in two separate rooms?

LaCie makes some interesting devices ... I have an older LaCinema Bridge that runs most .avi files on the TV.

Shityeah! Thanks Zund... that network connect box you just plug into the router would work perfectly... I'd rather run 30" of ethernet cable than have to dish out $XX for x feet of HDMI. I appreciate you sharing that, now I'm onto tracking down a washer/dryer.
