I took my Silverado in for an oil change and tire rotation. A bit later the service advisor approaches me and says the oil pan is starting to seep for some reason and they want to replace it. It's, for some reason, an overnight job so I need to get my house keys outta the truck.
So, I go into the shop, get to my truck...and there's a chick mechanic working on it. WTF??? There weren't any babysitting jobs available?
I'm not sure I can deal with a chick working on my truck.
Then they wanted to give me an HHR as a loaner. Sorry...but I can't handle having a chick work on my truck and driving an HHR in the same day. Nuh-uh.
After a lot of bitching and repeatedly getting turned down on a Corvette loaner I settled for an Impala.
I need a drink.

Haha, when I was a tech we had a chick in our dealership. She was always out to prove something, not that I cared. She ended up doing a valvetrain job on a B6 Audi S4 and when she went to start it up...bent all 40 valves, last day on the job.

I'd be more worried that its a dealer mechanic than its a chick.

I don't mean to be the asshole here (or am I?) but what's wrong with a woman mechanic? The auto shop I go to is owned by a woman, and she's a whiz on the wrench! I know lots of gals that are more mechanically attuned than I am (which isn't saying a whole lot)... so I really don't understand your "old school" sexism, and really think a chill pill should be dropped into your afternoon drink. But I agree, the HHR is a crap bucket.

I'm not going to say anything about the HHR as my daily driver is a PT Cruiser :p
(ya know, if they made the PT and HHR with optional AWD they'd be super awesome ... because converting them to V8 RWD would be cake)

I have no beef with women working on cars. The only thing that made me shake my head was they would always act like the one girl that wanted to play football in HS, just on an estrogen mission.
Jesus Christ...has EVERYONE lost their sense of humor?
Sorry, my sarcasm detector is broken [Help]
And Jeeez Zund, I would have thought you'd have a bit more respect for yourself! [LOL] If you mixed the HHR and the PT Cruiser you'd have... a massive pile of crap! Also, I would reccomend getting rid of the PT, it's the most unsafe vehicle on the road. If a 1990's Volvo is considered the safest car (next to that H1 Hummer) then the opposite end of the spectrum is the PT... it's fact, not my opinion, if you want my opinion on the car, well I think they're ugly and sucktastic! But as long as no one here is driving a miata, I think our masculinity is intact!

Doesn't matter where the mechanic works, gimme a break. Mechanics in any shape or form are paid on flat rate. They are all hungry with the same mentality, complete bs to imply dealer mechanics are more of a crook than an independent mechanic.
Didn't go to Marcy's I see.

Female mechanics are just the same as any other mechanic. The sex doesn't matter but rather the aptitude and comprehension.
I knew a gal that worked for her dads shop and was a helluva wrench and driver.
Either you got it or you don't.
Let's not forget Marissa Tomei in "My Cousin Vinny" either!

I would reccomend getting rid of the PT, it's the most unsafe vehicle on the road.
Considering my other car is a Porsche 914 (and when I sell it I'll be replacing it with a Jeep) you can tell that I really don't give 2 shits about "safety" [Tooth]
We got the PT because the wife wanted one ... after driving it for a while though I can say its grown on me and I actually like it (ours is a Limited Edition ... power everything, sun roof, leather, heated seats and a 5 speed so I can actually climb a hill).
The sex doesn't matter but rather the aptitude and comprehension.
And there she is workin' at the dealership.
Back when I turned a wrench for a living, the little independent shop I worked at made a LOT of money fixing stuff the dealer mechs screwed up :D

Had a SBC back in the 70's threw a rod and I went 10 miles with a hole in the block but I got home.
Another time I had a rear go out, yup got home before it seized.
Got 330000+ miles on one of our work trucks then traded it in still had 150 cranking#'s of compression.

OK...it just needs an oil change and tire rotation. I got a free 3 year service plan when I bought it last year. So, yeah, I could do it myself and maybe get dirty and break a nail and spend money for the oil/filter and stuff, OR I can take it down there and have someone, in this case a girl, do it for me. For free.
You make the call.
Now, the more I think about in those terms (a woman doing the work) the more I like it.

In my younger, dumber years I had a '91 Subaru Legacy. I added some oil one day and went about my business doing what ever it was I needed to do. That ended up being over 100 miles that summer day. When I got back home I noticed a burning oil smell. Popped the hood and noticed I forgot to replace the oil cap after I topped it off. Doh! It was still sitting there on the plastic valve cover shroud where I left it. Engine compartment COVERED in oil. It was drenched everywhere. But you know what, even after 100 miles the engine never overheated...temperature didn't even rise a smidgen...oil cap or not. Good car.
Ya know, all this probably wouldn't be happening if you hadn't bought a Chevy [Coffee]
