I've got the Model 629 Mountain Gun (.44 magnum) with the 4" bbl.

Very nice revolver, but the more I look at it, the more I think it would be PERFECT in .41 Magnum.

I'm surprised S&W doesn't make one. They did a run of Model 57's in the Mountain Gun configuration, but I just prefer stainless for something I'm actually going to carry in the field.

I don't think it would be worth the effort and expense, but I wonder how tough it would be to cut the barrel back to 4" and trim down the underlug?

Mike you can call S&W and see if they have any mountian gun barrels. I did this with a 3" M24 and turned it into a 6 1/2" target gun. This may be an option and then if sometime in the future you want the long barrel config back you can do it.

The M24 I have is a collectable revolver and if and when I want to put it back to original I can as S&W sends all parts back.
