Okay, I have an astigmatisms in both eyes. I have been thinking about lazik for awhile now. I've been told that when you have eyes like mine you have to get one fixed for distance, and one for near. My question, is which would i do what to. Im right eye dominant, I shoot right handed as strong side for handgun and long gun. I'm wondering how iron sights would be affected if i get my right eye fixed for distance. Has anyone else had the problems i do with my eyes and gotten lazik, and how did it affect your shooting?

Well, I had astigmatisim and had lasik about 12 years ago.

don't know how it was done in regards to each eye, but I have had no problems seeing or shooting since.

I'm left eye dominant, right handed. but since developing optic neuritis in the left eye from MS I do fine with my right.

lasik is a bloody miracle and worth every penny, even if you have to finance it.

I had PRK done due to thin corneas, as soon as I turned 21 (30 now). Astigmatism and a prescription of -8.5. I'm 20/20 now with both eyes but the right is only 20/30 so have to wear glasses to be able to use the iron sights properly, they're very slight prescription in the right eye only. They just weren't able to get a full 20/20 on me.

The whole one eye near and one eye distant is so you won't need reading glasses in the future if it was me I'd just tell them you don't care about reading glasses and correct both the same and wear reading glasses later.

Watch-out for the lowest bidder!!! If you are going to do lasik or laser, do a lot of research on the doctor and the correct procedure for your eyes and condition specifically. I had a friend who had it done by some jerk-off and has worse problems now. Another friend had it done by a real pro and is happy and is 20/15! The later had been wearing glasses since he was a teenager.

I also had mine done at the spivak vision center. Yes, you can get it done for 499 an eye somewhere, I'll take reputation over savings when it comes to my sight. I was -6.5 with astigmatism in both eyes. Now I'm 20/15 in one and 20/20 in the other. Best money I have ever spent on anything.

I had laser PRK done in 1998 and it had to be "re-touched" in 2005, but I've been very happy with my decision to do it. I'm just now noticing that I have to push things farther away to read them, so my age is beginning to affect my vision. I've been told they will be able to fix that as well in the coming years.

All you new fangled kids with your lasers... I had my eyes done the old fashioned way with the diamond scalpel! (RK) Went from 20/250 to 20/15 in the early 90s...

Ya, there's no way I would have been able to afford it wirhout my insurance plan and flexible spending account.

I had PRK done about 5 years ago. I got it for free, being in the military (thanks guys!) but i would pay $5,000 if I had to. It is freakin' life changing to go from 20/300 to 20/15. IMHO, I would get both eyes corrected and wear reading glasses if needed. Besides, they might make you look smarter [insert emoticon with thick black framed glasses here].

I had PRK done this last December. Went from being unable to see the front sight post of an M16/M4 when shouldered to 20/13. It took about a week before I was able to drive, and about 2-3 months before my vision got to where it is now. Definitely worth it; best money I ever spent.

I did notice an oddity while it was still healing. When viewing the dot of my Aimpoint Micro through the Aimpoint 3x magnifier, it would appear as an oblong donut of sorts. This lessened as time went by, and by three months it looked like a normal dot once more.

Had mine done at the laser eye center of northern CO up in Ft. Collins.

wish I could get lasik... Thin cornea so I'm a candidate for prk... The recovery time is what keeps me from moving fwd...

those that have lasik and prk do you experience dry eyes?

either way I love wearing glasses

Yep...I had it done in 98 as well. Doc offered me the "one eye near, one eye far" option and I declined and just went for the distance correction. Vision went from about 20/100 to 20/15 left eye, 20/20 right eye.

But, he did say it would hasten my need for reading glasses. I can stumble through most up-close things now but the reading glasses really help. I could probably use a touch up, too, as I notice my distant vision isn't quite as sharp as it was.

Getting old sucks. It's too bad the alternative is even worse.

I know a couple guys that have had Lasic and PRK.

Most guys are very happy with the results. Most of them end up with a slight prescription in their shooting glasses to help with the front sight when they hit their mid-40s.

My wife had Lasic a couple years ago and is very happy.

I can not have Lasic as the Air Force says Lasic and being on flight status is a no-go. However PRK is ok. Time will tell.

I had PRK, haven't had any problems with halos at night, dry eyes, anything like that.

Ditto for the most part. Had dry eyes a little for the first couple months, but it tapered off a lot after that. The eyes are totally normal now.

I gotta say though, the first three days after sucked. Felt like chopping onions all day for three days straight. Went away like a flash on the fourth day.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I really want to do it, and it sounds like everyone's experience is a positive one. Now I just have to find a way to afford it. [Tooth]
