So driving back up to Evergreen yesterday from Lakewood I finally boiled over. I was on I-70WB in the left lane passing traffic- because for some reason people couldn't maintain 65 in the middle lane. Well as soon as I get to the big hill just past the Genessee exit traffic in the left lane slows to below 60! Cause? A trucker trying to pass another trucker (barely) on a 6% grade, thus causing all the traffic doing below 60 to go into the left lane...
Why can't people follow the rules of the road? Keep right except to pass. And why do truckers deem it so necessary to pass while going up a really steep hill? I understand the importance trucks play in our economy and what not, but for fuck's sake they need to learn that they screw the whole system up like a clogged artery when they pull that shit. They're not the only ones on the road, and they sure as fuck don't own the road. Anyone else just driven out of their damn mind by the way people can't obey simple rules of the road?

Yeah...I have a bad road rage problem. Only boiled over once in 8 years in my car now, socked the Nav screen with my right hand and spider webbed the whole thing. Ever since it makes pretty colors like a kaleidoscope and is a constant reminder to be cool man, be cool.

It isnt always the smartest thing to do when going up a grade, for one semi to pass another, but, in alot of cases, that slower truck on the grade is going to really slow down alot more then the passing truck. He's just trying to get around him, so as to not be bogged down as the climb progresses. He's got 11hrs or more of driving to do each day usually, you only have a few usually. A little patience around them goes a long ways. I can tell you more times then not, the semi driver is the one who gets frustrated at the amatuer drivers that tailgate and cut them off, because they wont use common sense. Saw it plenty of times in two years, nearly killed a few idiots who tried something stupid in front of me. Luckily, for them I had more sense then they did and took action.

While that's true- I get really peeved when going up the hill and getting stuck behind some asshat doing 50 in a 65, then when I flash my headlights at him he flips me off... how is it that you going incredibly fucking slow is my bad? Tell ya, more than once a day I have moments where I think "If I was a cop the flashing lights would move your ass over!"

And then you would be the center piece of someone here griping about how the cops turn on and off their lights for their own convenience...

You didn't see that video of the cop car pulling a vehicle out of the left lane on that highway for not passing. Technically it is the law, and if they enforced it better we'd have less congestion.

That semi is attempting to maintain his momentum so he doesn't make a bad thing worse. You're definitely right, the law is that you should not be in the left hand lane unless you're in the process of passing which that semi is.

There's so much more important crap to worry about.

As a car driver I have to wonder what the hell those ass hats are doing in the left lane going under the speed limit.

As a truck driver I don't have to go up there very often, but if there is a truck going 15 in the right lane and I am going 40 I want to get around him too. I wait until there are few cars to piss off and then go around him. I know I am going slow too and promise you I know to get my ass out of the way as soon as I can. If I come up on someone only going a little slower than I am I will slow to his speed until we get to the top.

The law in Colorado is...

You do not have to yield the right of way to faster drivers until you have 5 vehicles behind you (new law maybe 2 years old). Also it if fully legal to pass on the right. "Keep right except to pass" is only on areas of road marked as such.

Don't get mad at me now... I drive I-70 a lot. I have been driving on that road for many many years (since I was 16 years old in nice cars and old beaters). I obey ROW and try to stay out of the "fast" lane entirely. Please be aware that in addition to slow-pokes in that lane, there are total jackass' driving way to fucking fast also. They are just as bad as the slow-pokes and much more dangerous. A reasonable rate of speed is best for everyone.

Fortunately there are lots of good (professional) truckers out there that drive I-70 a lot and do a awesome job with a very hard task. That said 1 or 2 Dip-shit truckers can really screw up the flow...[Rant1]

The only law I want enacted ASAP is:

NO OUT-OF-STATE PLATES IN THE LEFT LANE ON I-70!!!!!!!

That is all....

I should note, the problem I see is, if there is three lanes of traffic on one side, there really isnt a reason for a big truck(semi) to be in the far left lane, unless he's passing everyone, then he's questionably insane.

In most cases, those few moments that truck is impeding your rush to go somewhere are not going to cause global warming, lead to Obama being re-elected, or cure cancer, lol. Its only a couple of minutes tops, and he's out of your way. Its the insane panic rush of trying to cut off the truck, and act like you are living the dream of Dale Earnhardt on his last race(not letting anyone in front of you) that causes the headaches, wrecks and fatalities. You wont win against a truck. You wont see a dime of any lawsuit. You'll be a vegetable, or go home in a body bag. Any driver(truck driver) will say, let those fourwheelers(cars) ride in a semi one day in nasty traffic, and your outlook on life will change, especially if its a hazmat load, lol.

I always remember that I have a gun in the car and should always be calm.

Sounds like someone missed his favorite show to me. They don't own the road, but you do?

Also, how many people were in front of the vehicle you were flashing your lights at? I've break checked many a vehicle who was riding my ass in traffic when there are cars in front of me as far as the eye can see.

I also get...intense in traffic, but it really pisses me off when some asshole is behind me acting like I'm the ONLY car on the road blocking his progress, when it's very clear that I'm going the speed that I am because there are 100 other cars in front of me preventing me from going faster.

Now, I'm not assuming that was the situation, but I thought I'd bring up that point anyway.

It's not "technically the law", it is the law. One that isn't followed, nor really enforced.
42-4-1013. Passing lane - definitions - penalty. (http://www.michie.com/colorado/lpext.dll?f=FifLink&t=document-frame.htm&l=query&iid=51102ea2.db91b27.0.0&q=%5BGroup%20%2742-4-1013%27%5D)

(1) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle in the passing lane of a highway if the speed limit is sixty-five miles per hour or more unless such person is passing other motor vehicles that are in a nonpassing lane or turning left, or unless the volume of traffic does not permit the motor vehicle to safely merge into a nonpassing lane.
(2) For the purposes of this section:
(a) "Nonpassing lane" means any lane that is to the right of the passing lane if there are two or more adjacent lanes of traffic moving in the same direction in one roadway.
(b) "Passing lane" means the farthest to the left lane if there are two or more adjacent lanes of traffic moving in the same direction in one roadway; except that, if such left lane is restricted to high occupancy vehicle use or is designed for left turns only, the passing lane shall be the lane immediately to the right of such high occupancy lane or left-turn lane.
(3) A person who violates this section commits a class A traffic infraction.
