Just moved here a few months ago from Georgia and I'm getting desperate in searching for a location where I can setup a portable bench and plink away. I've been shooting up past Jamestown in a few locations with a 2-3 mile hike to get to some decent areas but hauling all the gear out there is getting a bit tedious. Left hand canyon just scares me silly on top of having at most 25 yards to shoot at. I've found some nice places north of Lefthand out in the hills but short of buying a dirtbike they're a pain to haul two rifles and a portable bench/ironing board(they are great temporary rests [ROFL1])

Anyone have any suggestions or know of any groups that gather in Boulder and carpool to some of the ranges south and east of Boulder? The Boulder Rifle Club is neat and all but with a ~7 year wait and myself having little plans of being here 7 years from now it all seems a bit silly.

Note: I've searched on the very nice Google map that has been created but I'm hoping something will turn up like "My family has some land north of Boulder that we shoot at on the weekends" or "I know a farmer who is a gun enthusiast and wouldn't mind a nice guy plinking against a hill/sandbag in exchange for some cash/help".

Any help would be great [Beer]

There is one indoor rifle range that is 100 yards, Blue Core in Lakewood. I think Cherry Creek has 100 yards outdoors.

Cherry creek does have a 100 yard outdoor range, but it's not terribly convenient for those of us nearer Boulder, plus it costs money to get in to the park then even more money to use the range! I've been there once and will not be going back.

Problem is, Colorado is too heavily populated. Anywhere near where people want to live and work, there's other fawking people living all over the damn place! Good luck finding a place near Boulder to send bullets through the air. Private gun clubs are the best bet, the one I'm in has 560 acres of private land, and all the surrounding landowners are life members, so it's no problem. But it's a long ways away from you.

It's free to put your name on the waiting list. I didn't think I'd be here more than a year or two when I moved here and dearly wish I'd put my name on the list the day I arrived.

Otherwise, CRC is worthwhile if you aren't opposed to a drive: http://www.crci.org/

Sounds like you found the promised land for shooting in Colorado. I'm jealous to say the least :)

Good point. I'll stop by for one of their weekend rifle events and sign up while I'm there. CRC is a bit of a drive but I'm getting desperate.

You could always come up here to Pawnee. Just dont go out there on the weekend, trust me.

www.blgc.org (http://www.blgc.org) Great place, but it's almost an hour from my house in Parker, so a killer for you. But if you find a similar place in your area that's joinable, I highly recommend it. It's great being able to go shootin' like an American's supposed to be able to!

I live north of Boulder and I make the trip up to Pawnee about once a month for various long range shooting. It really is not that bad of a drive, and there are some pretty good places that you can get 1000+ if that is your thing. As far as avoiding the weekends go, I have had no problems. It is more crowded yes, but it is nothing like Carnage Canyon aka Lefthand. Other than that I have searched for the last two years that I have been here; if you don't know the land owner, you will be paying to shoot there and none of them are cheap.
