Does anyone have experience with Armalite rifles? It's up between the Mod 1 a Bushmaster or a Colt. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Correction-NEW Bushmasters are crap. I have had quite few earlier Bushy's and they were great rifles.
Armalites are good rifles, they are the originator of the design. The only problems I have seen with Armalites is the occasional FTF due to tight tolerances.

I keep hearing negative things about Bushmasters but no one ever really explains why they just say they are junk. So Bert you mentioned that the newer ones are no good, what/when changed things because I thought at one time they were pretty good rifles?

I've had my Bushmaster for almost 2 years now and put about 2500 rounds through with zero problems.

In 07 or 08 Bushmaster was acquired by Cerebus Holdings. Since then QC has slipped. When I worked at the shop late model Bushys were one of the most frequently brought in with issues.
Stupid stuff like loose pistol grips, 2 gas rings instead of 3, missing buffer detents, missing safety detents, weak staking of the gas key causing it to loosen, loose buffer tubes and such.
Just poor quality control.
Bushmaster is actually shutting down operations and moving to one of the Carolinas IIRC.
Too bad, they were great rifles.

My Colts have been flawless as well.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. SO no real major issue just one of those things that if you do buy one look it over real good.

Thanks Bert

In 09 I picked up a NIB 20" A3 (flat top) and put a rail, Eotech, PRS stock and a couple goodies before I even shot it. Took it to the hills and no matter what I did it would not cycle. Checked all the usual suspects such as gas leakage, FSB alignment etc. I could find no deficiencies. Again it would not cycle, just a single shot rifle. I sent it back to Bushmaster and they sent it back after a month and a half.
Took it back up to the hills and same crap.
I dumped it at Gander Mountain and even made a bit of a profit. Pretty much turned me off of new Bushies.

An actual Armalite Model 01 would have been made between 1959 and 1961, and is both C&R designated, and usually NFA registered. The original AR-15 was a select fire design, through both models 01 and 02 before adoption by the USAF, sale to Colt Patent Firearms Mfg, and eventual type classification and adoption as the M16.

So what is it that you've got, that you're considering buying?

My Armalite A2 built in 2000, hasn't missed a shot yet. Seems as good as anything else I've seen.
