Good luck, and stay safe guys. I'll be heading out tomorrow (Sunday), a day late and a dollar short like normal...
Went out before daylight for deer saw some, too hot, got time will wait for the big boy.
Im on notellum ridge right now. Saw a few cows and a small bull so far.

I saw 2 small bulls, 4x4 ish. No shot because I was in the truck. Like Mnt.man said too hot, not talking. I'll wait for cooler weather.

My body is jello. We need horses. Saw a butt load of animals. The coolest of which were four bull moose. They stayed in front of us for over 45 minutes. We also saw four big bucks in a group. 2 were real big and tall. (I don't have an archery deer tag) They were within 200 yards and would have been an easy shot with a rifle.
All the bulls were together. I have never seen so many bulls in my life. We saw some real big boys. We also saw a bunch of cows. We saw well over 100 elk. They were not talking at all. The cows were cool but the bulls seemed spookey.
Edit- When I said all the bulls were together, I mean they were running in small groups of 6 to 8.

2 more bulls this morning comming into town. Both on private land, but still good to see. 1 was at least 6x6 and the other had a very unique rack, 4x6 ???? Looked like a twisted tree branch.
Went out this morning. Saw 3 doe and 1 4x4 buck. I found his path to and from feeding areas. I'm headed out again at 5pm [Coffee] I'll see if I can ambush him.

Well I know his trail now. I took my brother and we sat for 2.5 hours in the exit of his trail. We got eaten alive by the mosquitoes and my brother got irratated, so we move over by another trail were we saw a doe. About 20 minutes later I looked back and saw that same buck standing about 40 yards from where we used to be!!! I had to punch my bro in the arm for that one! [Rant1]
Oh well. I got a month to get him.
Put my old man on a small buck Sunday afternoon. Just finished grinding, mixing, wraping, and now it's in the freezer! Now it's time for me a LimitedGM to bag and tag. Maybe Monday if all goes well.. Good luck guys, and be safe ( I took a nasty digger and rolled down a 20' bank).

Thanks Dave. I passed on several big 4 points, just waiting for that wall hanger. I'll post some pics of the 4-points later. Watched them for 1/2 hour or so @ 35 yards. [Beer]

I got back yesterday. too damn hot. saw 3 bulls and 4 cows. couple of smaller 4x4 and a raghorn 5x4. At least we were seeing animals but no talking whatsoever.
I did call in a hunter when I was bored and let out a few bugles. He was down below, hauled ass up to us, when I saw him I bugled him the pledge allegiance to the flag[LOL]

Had to stop on the road to my house, 4 deer, 2 moms, 1 buck, and a doe. Rolled down the window, they just looked at me as if to say, Fu*k you! Go home to you're dry, warm house. So I said to them. Come on over and I'll make you dinner!! [Coffee]

Is that where you're going next weak?? I have a friend I can call and ask. Not much of a hunter but he might have some info.
Took my bow for it's daily walk yesterday 4 hours, saw momma bear and 2 cubs, no big bucks, probably because MOON is so big. did hear a bugle up higher and a few squeeks.
Went up today just for the day. not a peep. pushed a large herd bull and some calls for a while, finally saw them way out in front of us in an opening. no calling would make him stop. came across a couple spots were some satellites were at but they weren't talking. not a damn peep. I'm waiting till the last few days to go up again. too damn hot.

Not much word from out hunting parties. Nothing much last week when they came home for a breather, they are up this week again, no word yet. (Above Rifle/NewCastle)
Dry or wet but not much for activity on the elk front.
Went out today and had 4 bucks with in 40 yards of us but couldn't get a shot because of some tree branches in the way. Then they caught our scent and it was all over. Should have one of them by next weekend...... I hope

I was out this weekend I got a shot off on a big 4 by 4 mule deer 50 yards on the range finder. I missed i thought it looked like 40 should have shot what i thought. No bulls talking yet hopefully by the last weekend. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Thanks Josh. Went up this morning. Called in 2 small bulls, didn't make the point restriction. Not alot of talking, but they are a little. I hope to at least get a shot at a cow tomorow. Got soaked with rain should turn to snow tonight I hope!! We'll see. [Tooth]

Hunting in unit 38 behind Black Hawk. Still wasn't alot of talking but they were responting to cow calls yesterday. Today not so much, light dusting of snow but not enough to do any good!! [Bang] Melted by 9am.
I think snow is right. Getting damn cold here.
Little bit of a warm up I'm afraid! And Fu-king people every where!! WTF! [Rant2]Nothing talking @ the same spot I was in yesterday. Drove over to my other spot. They were having a voluntier US Forest service clean up! I have no problem with people cleaning up the forest! I think thats great! But doing it during the last week of archery?? And to give me shit for being a hunter!!!??
I think I made one of them cry as I was ripping them a new Asshole!! Fu-king Tree hugging, left wing Vegans from Boulder or where ever giving me shit because I hunt! I was hoping I would have shot something so I could have tied it to my truck to display as I was leaving, with blood dripping out of the bed of the truck!! But they were making all kinds of noise, talking, whistling, bla bla!! [Bang][Bang][Bang][Rant1][Rant2]

right on, I won't be far away in 37 then. i really hate hunting on the weekends. luckily my job affords me the opportunity to work when I want for the most part so I generally hunt during the week, less hunters and less idiots fucking around.
A couple years ago I got an elk and the antlers were large enough to stick out of the back of the truck quite well. A couple people gave me thumbs up, one guy gave me a nasty look and it "looked" like he flipped me off. (it was dark), so I cut him off and turned on my cargo light so he could see it very clearly and to piss him off further. He took an exit a few miles down the road and then I forgot about the light until I got pulled over!
The state patrol officer alerted me that the lights are very bright and aren't supposed to be on. I apologized, but he said not to worry about it and wanted to see the elk, so we talked for a while where I was at and how the hunting was going...he was going up when he got off the next day I think he said! so he let me go with a warning![Beer]

Ya gota love LEO!! Good people most of the time! Few years back I got a small 5x5 young one. I tied the head to the top of my Blazer to display. I took a rope and tied it to the rack and ran it through my window, so when I pulled the rope the head would turn to the left / drivers side as if to look at people. One chick gave me the thumbs up when I did it. Others did'nt see the humor.
The state patrol officer that pulled me over told me that I shouldn't do that! Then said after he checked my tags etc. Now that I have told you what I think as an officer of the law. Let me tell you what I think as a Hunter my self. "Thats Fu*king funny as hell" We shook hands and off I went!! [Tooth] Be cool to them and they will be cool you!! [Beer]

Took bow for 4 day walk, didn't see any deer (except on private land) didn't see or hear any elk. Strange year, the aspen haven't even started changing colors this year. 3 years of archery hunting and still haven't shot anything. Gotta keep at it I guess.
saw a big bull with 1/2 dozen or more cows way up high yesterday. Bugling and herding. Spookled a nice buck saw somw does, was way too hot.

anyone archery hunting for deer in the plains? I drew a 104,105, 106 tag last year and got a shot at a monster and shot right over him :( didnt draw this year
