I am getting around to cleaning the firing pin on my gun and notice this is not going to be as easy as other platforms. It may appear the firing pin is held in by roll pins? why the hell would HK use pins that are not reusable?????
So im just a little confused as to what i need to do? if i need to buy more pins before i remove it is there someplace in town that would have some pins for sale? or is there some other way of cleaning this area?

The manual that comes with the pistol does not mention anything about cleaning this area of the gun. so does HK expect me to to leave this area dirty? or is this a ploy to get me to send in the gun for cleaning at the tune of over 100$?

You can do it one of two ways.
1) Punch the roll pin 3/4 of the way out and remove the firing pin, clean as desired. Put the firing pin back in and push the roll pin back in and you're done.
2) Punch the roll pin completely out and go about cleaning. German made Roll pins can be use quite a few times over and over without losing their tension. I would usually replace mine after every five times I took it out. The roll pins are really cheap, and I would suggest getting Genuine Hk pins from Hk, or from Adam Webber, Hkparts.net. I think he sells Genuine Hk pins for pistols.

Sometimes you just go a little OCD...

The reason HK, SigSauer and the like use roll pins is for the fact they are not user servicable components generally. Unless the firing pin is suspect of malfunction I would not mess with it.
Try this before you go putting punch tracks on the pin/slide: go to your local auto parts store and get an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner-make sure you get the nozzle extension with it. Blast the firing pin hole really well from any and all angles you can. Let the stuff sit in there for a while to soak and do its magic (it is designed to cut carbon-give it time to work). Blast again, soak, repeat. Do this until no more residue comes out and if you can manipulate the pin whilst the cleaner is in there the better. It just takes some gyrations to hold down the firing pin block, move the firing pin and spray all at the same time.
Blow it dry if you have access to a compressor, if not a can of keyboard cleaner will do.
1 drop of good oil and you are good to go.

It's recommended to use new pins if you remove them. They're pretty cheap...As spyder's already said.
