Noyce! It is clean and straight-forward. First AR build? Probably not. :-D

*Logs on to BCM...

I am going to call BCM soon. Rumor has it they will be making a "dissipator" barrel like the one pictured but with a mid-length gas system. I need to call to verify this before I custom build my own barrel or order one from Bushmaster.

Bushy's is a 16" with a rifle gas system though, right?

NM, looked up the part - it's carbine gas with a rifle length fsp. [Bang]

I'd rather wait on a middy dissipator.

No. Bushmaster's is a 16" with a carbine gas system.

Edited my post...still cool though.

I will give BCM a call tomorrow and see if the rumor is true and if they have any idea when they might go into production with their "dissipator" barrel.

It also looks like the BM will be a 1:9 barrel whereas I prefer 1:7's.

For being so rich, you'd think that Shawn White could afford to repaint that barn.

As I was posting that, I hear from behind me, "Why is Carrot Top holding a firearm?"

So is there an issue with running a rifle length gas system on a 16" bbl?

So is there an issue with running a rifle length gas system on a 16" bbl?

Depends who you ask. Those that have them say they run just fine. Others say they can be finicky about cycling, especially with different ammunition due to the lack of dwell time- the time the bullet remains in the barrel after it passes the gas port. The distance between the gas port and the end of the barrel is the same on a rifle length gas system with a 20" barrel, a mid length gas system with a 16" barrel, and a carbine length gas system with a 14.5" barrel. A 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system actually has a slightly longer dwell time than the other configurations I mentioned above and seem to run dirtier (for me) and tend to accelerate wear on my gas rings. That's why I want the mid length gas system.

If you want one, I would just order one from Bushmaster.

I can't find just the barrel on this one. It'd be ideal:

Guess I'll have to give them a call...

ETA: Del-ton can get you lined up with 1:9 dissapator barrel (carbine gas) too.

AR with Fal style handguards? Ok, I have done worse. How about a Fal with Cetme handguards?

I really want the mid-length gas system with the dissipator barrel. I might just buy a 16" mid-length barrel and have it turned down near the front and install a FSB for a lightweight barrel.
