I am going to call this. We will not have anything going Friday or Sat. Please take a look and if it is clear and no snow on the ground come sunday morning then we will have a short clean up.

i do know that we are allowed to camp at south site .but there are no formal camp sites and no toilets. there are a few campgrounds close by but they cost 17 bucks a night .ill talk to the ranger and see if we can get a deal or something if enough people want to camp out .

Depending on the weather I may bring the camper out for the last of the year. I could set it up near the main area we use on the 7th and sort of be a base.

I have tables and camp stoves along with pots and whatnot. I am used to feeding 30 or so at Falfest and putting it all together.

This would also be a chance for many to get out meet. The weather is the main thing as everyone knows it is iffy that time of year but I have gone to Buffalo Creek around that time in years past. And I make a big mean pot of coffee. [Beer] And I would say no booze until after all the shooting is done. No fun telling tails without a beer and that would be on Sat evening.

Lifes just got me down. Medical bills, medical problems, wife's job on the way out, just sitting and waiting. Not spending any money on anything until the wife lands something else or whatever.

I got one as well. just changed out the bulbs for the LED's in the camper. Put the panels in it. Need to pick up some gas. I loaned it out and it is all gone. I will have a table to put stuff on. I also will bring another stove.

How long of a distance is the South Site, in terms of shooting? Can I sight my hunting rifle in at 200 yards there? Also, i'm assuming this is south of the FS Shooting closure, hard to tell on the map (http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fsm9_032401.pdf).

It is some sharp up and down. No brush or bad things but not something that I would try with 4" of ground clearance. If you can make it in the front road (that I have done with my TA) the other is fine.

as far as i know (told by ranger ) you can camp right there , but there is also a few pay site close by such as painted rocks , but they cost 17 dollars a night . ill be racking out in the jeep ,after all it is just one night . as far as phone service , i know my text works there, but the phone is spotty at best but i also have stupid cricket . Not an issue. I own a 2500 dodge myself. Just a thought gang. I will be parked at the site by friday afternoon. White camper/white dodge.

If someone wants to come sat and does not have the tent/gear etc it looks like I will have some space in the camper for a couple or 1 single. May have more room but the beds are taken friday night and I have offered up one bed to one member sat night. This of course includes breakfast sunday morning and lunch sunday afternoon. You will need to bring sleeping bag/blankets and your best pillow. [Coffee]

It is that time of year. Anything past the 1st of OCT is a crapshoot. And I would be OK. I could stay till wed. The trailer is packed and ready. I just see us getting up there and then getting snowed in sat night.

if put on hold then its gonna have to wait till spring .every weekend is booked for me till mid jan. im all for heading up sunday and doing what we can for cleaning and shooting but if the white stuff is on the ground its pointless .

I was planning on heading over for Friday afternoon, spend the night, shoot Saturday then head back Saturday afternoon - (got my own camping gear and food stuff)
If this is called off for today then I might be able to come over around noon Sunday if it's still on and if people show up.

Cofi I think that is the best plan for now. Take a look gang and if it is clear on Sunday we will try and have a short clean up. I am going to call this. We will not have anything going Friday or Sat.

Now if anyone wants to go on there own knock yourself out. I just think that with what I know about early fall and late spring weather it is better to err on the side of caution.

My thing is tent camping you can get away with waiting to the last min. Taking the trailer out for one night is a royal pain. I normally do not even bother with it and my tent is in Oregon right now.

It would be a mad dash trying to switch gears at this point. Look to the spring and we will try this again. I think with a little more planing that this could be a great event. Now to winterize the camper.

I do know that if we do plan for one next year that there will be more people show up.

bummer this didn't work out- I was trying to fit it in my schedule, but everything seemed to be against it- I've got an 8:30am commitment on Sunday, and now my well pressure tank is leaking...

The idea of camping in snow sounds great to me (I know, many of you think I'm sick in the head- just call me Alaskaboy like everyone else does) but agree that you can't really clean up with snow...

Thats a good point if there is snow we are not going to be able to do as much as we had hoped. I guess we could just say its on and hope for the best.

I passed on a range day today to get ready since I've been on PTO in Vegas the past three days. :D

I suppose if I can skeeve off work one more day I can still get to the range today although it's windy as hell.

I'm still good for going down Sunday if the weather cooperates.

We used to do our first camp of the season on Memorial Day weekends and have faced these weather issues. FWIW, our favorite spot was Wildcat - SSW from Deckers down on the North fork of the South Platte.

Agreed, I never committed because I know how my life is, especially on the weekends- My youngest daughter has a tackle (Yes, TACKLE) football game at 12:30 Sat... for the next 5-6 weeks, and I was volunteered to do sound at a new campus our church is opening in Oct in Florence, and training is my gig at 8:30 on Sun
