First they said 50 minutes, that we well over THREE hours ago.
Woulda been nice if they would have passed the law that let us CCW folks cash and carry.

I never wait around for those things. I just leave and come back later.

I've found the BGC wait is always inversely proportional to how far away from home I am when buying the gun.

Ain't that the truth!
I bought a new pistol last sunday and my background took less than ten minuets. Luck of the draw I guess.

I did leave and have been waiting at home for it to clear.
Of course I bought it at Dicks ( against all better judgement ) but the deal on a new 1187 12 ga was too deep and no one local could even touch the deal.
Pretty sure that is why the name is DICKS.
I have found a long wait to be either dangerous or exhilarating. I haven't figured out which.

The last time I had a long wait (65 minutes) was when I went to a specific gun shop for a specific gun. I went in, looked at it, and filled out the paperwork in about 5 minutes. They told me the wait would be about the time it would take me to drive home and back. It was hot out and the store was nice and cool. Then I started to look around.

I walked out with THREE guns, a half case of ammo, and a couple parts for my shotgun.

That would be nice (you could when I was stationed in NC).
I've got to say though, I think you're missing something on this. A three hour wait means more gun owners are picking up new weapons. Hopefully there are some new gun owners mixed in there too. You've got to look at the bright side. ;)

This is why, when I have a table at a gun show (which is very seldom) I prefer not to sell anything needing a background check any later than about 2PM, just in case of a serious delay. If the BG check has not been cleared when the show closes, I have to leave the firearm with the FFL who is running the BG due to him/her having to enter the firearm into their book. Then if the customers BG is turned down, I have to go back to the FFL and fill out a 4473 and pass a BG to get my own firearm back. NUTZ -- huh[BooHoo]
why do the BG checks take so long out here. Back in Mass, it was one call and it never took more than 5 minutes. I would assume the call is to the same place (4473 NICS check?)

Because the State of Colorado doesn't trust the feds to do the background check. NICS isn't the problem. It's the CBI part of the check that takes so long.

Funny, that. I bought a rifle in Washington state last week. They did the background check over the phone, and it took all of 5 minutes. I was in and out of that pawnshop in less than 20 minutes.

It really depends on gun show weekends. If I am buying on a weekend I always figure if there is a gun show in the state, it is going to be 3 hours minimum. Holiday weekends also, more people shopping and big sales. Thats why I try to buy at times like tuesday afternoons.
CBI was pissed at you because you're off having fun and they have to work. Just another example of how the gov doesn't serve us, we serve the gov.

Yeah...I meant in the state with CBI doing the checks. If I only have to drive 5 minutes to pick up the gun, the bgc takes 5 mins. If I have to drive 3 hours, the bgc takes 6 hours.

ETA on this.
I had the guy at dicks call the CBI. My " instacheck " came back clean of course 15 minutes after he submitted it but there was a problem with the CBI's notification system back outbound so it just sat there.
Anyway, glad i had the guy call. Dicks is a overall pain in the ass to buy a gun from and while I would have rather given a local shop the business the price I got on a new shotgun was unbeatable.
