The CCR is having some problems and I hope you all can help.

Number one is a lady about a mile from the range whinning to the County Commissioners about range noise, No whinning about the highway or dump noise though. She is wanting to sell her house and apparently has to high a price on it and is blaming the range for her not being able to sell her house. She wants the range open from 0900 to 1700 only. Commissioners say no way as does the DOW but with stuff like this it is one step at a time for the antis.

The commissioner meeting is this coming Tue. The meeting starts at 0900 but we are guessing the range business won't be heard until after 1200. If anyone is in Salida and wants to lend their support it would be welcome. Or you can get on the Chaffee County website and send a nicely worded and polite email to the commissioners stating your support.

Second and I'm sure it isn't any of you guys on COAR-15 but we are having problems with idiots destroying parts of the range. We have had at least 5 incidents here this summer. Today I went to the range to shoot .22 with my daughter on the 50 yard .22 range and some idiot(s) destroyed the back stops with shotguns and of course left trash all over to boot. Earlier someone set fire to the lower pistol pit accident or on purpose we do not know and we've also had the combat pistol range support posts shot off at the ground.

On another range we had the backstops destroyed but we found the party responsible and they got a talking to.

A kid was caught shooting up the supports posts and he was lets say humilated by his Dad and Uncle. His Dad, Uncle and friend went out to the range to shoot and found the damage but didn't know the kid did it. They went home and started talking about some idiots destroying the range and what kind of low life fool would do something like that etc. not knowing they were talking to the kid who did it.:)

The guy who takes care of the range (100% unpaid BTW) talked to the Sheriff and he said if anyone sees someone destroying the range or facilitys call the Sheriffs office and at a minimum they will get a ticket for vandalism.

For all of you who come to the CCR, welcome and enjoy. I hope to meet some of you out here sometime.

Please call the Sheriff if you see anyone jacking up the range. Bill the guy who takes care the range puts alot of time and effort keeping the range clean and up to standards. The cost of the damage wasn't that much but what it does is put a big work load on Bill. As stated he isn't a hired hand he does it so we can have a nice place to shoot. He also has a job, a small farm/ranch so it isn't like he has all the time in the world to fix what idiots destroy. He has a hard enough time just keeping up with the normal wear and tear. Yes, many of us locals do clean up and help when we can.

Thank you for your support!

What's wrong with people?! Seems as though you can't have anything nice these days without some idiots destroying it.

Some people like to eat lead paint chips and wash is down with their bath water. That sucks about your range, It I see anything I will call the 5-0 and hope they catch these ass hats

this is sickening.....
why these half-wits cannot just act like responsible adults, and leave things be is beyond my reaches of intelligence.....

How long has the lady lived in her house? I believe the range has been there for 9+ yrs. Would be interesting know if the lady is upside down on her mortgage?

I shoot there a couple times a month, I cherish the range. Appreciate everything Bill does. Haven't seen anyone doing damage. If I do, I'll tar and feather the stupid fucks!

She has lived in the house for 17 years. From talking to a person in the know she is asking way to much for her house, that is the reason it isn't selling. There have been 4 houses sold in the area in the last year or two.

If we can't keep a range out there, near a trash dump, where can we have a range?

Tell her to keep her pie hole shut or we'll have machine gun shoots there during her open houses.

Those of us who live in Chaffee County and consider the range our prized possession take this situation very seriously. What we need is sensible ideas and constructive comments. Civility and propriety will be appreciated from those in attendance at the meeting. WB

One of the best ranges I've been to, it's a shame some people take advantage of 'free'.

I wish I could buy the land on the other side of that woman, then put in a hog farm.

That range is truely great. I had one of the best shooting memories with my Dad at that place last summer when he came out to visit me.

That's sad. I've been going there since its been open with my kids. My folks have had a place in Mount Priceton Estates since 73. It's really a nice place to shoot!
