So, today was my BD and my mother (the ex hippy) purchased me a Savage 10FP w/ Mcmillan stock and a few accy's to go with it. Once the scope and log book get here I will need a 100 yard range to sight in. I still need to sight in my AR as well, but that can be done @25 yards. I will be going during the week and anyone is welcome to join, especially if you know where a good spot is near Loveland / Fort Collins.

Happy Shooting!

Well shoot...

You got youself thar, wuna them fancy dancy new Super acu-rite, rich folk rifles. You gunna be needin boot loads more than 100 yards fo' that thing!

Congratulations on the rilfe. I myself have been considering the Savage 10FP opposed to the Rem 700 (Either the PSS or the VSF). because of price diffence, and the Savage already has the stock I want. Let us know how she groups.

So far with a scope and at 25yrds it is the size of a quarter. I should have my glass by the end of the week and heading out to sight in next week.

Cheers.

+1, The main reason I sold my .308 700 PSS was because it was no fun to shoot at 100 yards. At 100 yards three shots would make one funky shaped hole once it was tuned in.

You might also want to get a single stage reloading press. My favorite .308 match load is a Speer 168gr Matchking BTHP with Hogdon Varget powder.

My earlier post should have read WITHOUT a scope. I just looked down the barrel. I have given considerable thought to reloading with the price of ammo. Between .223, .308 and .40 I can spend quite a bit on ammo.

I chose the Savage based on a few recommendations and an article in last months SOF. The author put together a "poor man's" sniper rifle using a base model Savage 10 with a Barska scope for under $700. He said in his article that Carlos H. thought the Savage was the best "out of the box" rifle. Since he has passed, we have no way of knowing, but it sounded good. I will post when I am heading out to the range. I think with the scope I ordered, I can sight in at 100M or 200M. Either way, the range I found has a 400M rifle range.
