I fail to understand certain forum members' seeming obsession with 3rd tier manufacturers. Why buy junk when there are so many great guns out there? You generally get what you pay for. Why even consider spending 5-$600 for crap when for 7-$800 you can get a Springfield? Why buy 2 crap 1911s when for the same G or 1200 you can get a great 1911 and a high quality .22 conversion kit? Call me a snob, but I wouldn't be caught dead with an Iver Johnson 1911, an RG, an Arminius, a Charter Arms or for that matter a Rock Island. That's just not where my money will ever go.[Peep]

No direct knowledge of the Iver Johnson 1911's.
My guess would be another Armscor/ Phillipino made 1911 marketed under the IJ name.

My mind keeps going back to that bedspread covered with 2nd & 3rd tier guns (except -maybe- the Para). For all of the money the op spent on that junk, he probably could have easily gotten a TRP, a Colt XSE, a dedicated high quality 1911 22 and a bunch of ammo. Now he has his mind set on an Iver Johnson. Oh-- the Humanity![Dunno]

That's exactly what it is. Kind of an "entry level" RIA.
And BTW...$650 will buy you a Remington, American-made 1911.
I have had a couple of fancy Colt 1911s. They were a waste of money- for me. I can't hit anything any better with them than the Rock Island Armory 1911s I have now. I have no problem admitting that most guns (and shooters) are more accurate than I am.
My RIA guns go bang every time I pull the trigger. I have never problems of any kind on any of the 1911s I have owned or own. They have all been reliable.
Shiny don't mean ca-ca to me. I don't really care what it looks like as long as it functions. I look at most fancy, shiny guns and wonder why anyone would want a gun like that. They just aren't my style.
Those so called '2nd or 3rd tier' guns are perfectly fine for what they are. They are good shooters for a reasonable price. Not everyone can afford or is willing to spend the big bucks on a first tier gun. There is nothing wrong with that.
Why should I pay more for appearance that I don't care about, accuracy that I can't show, or no increase in reliability?
One last thing. Springfield Armory out of Geneseo Illinois sucks. Anybody that steals the name and leaches off of the heritage and reputation of a historic and honorable institution are assholes.

It has next to nothing to do with pretty or shiny. It has to do with quality control at the factory and quality components. Also- I would put Remington and Ruger in the 1st tier class. It just doesn't save that much money to buy the lowest level/price of any type of gun, whether it is a single action, double action or an automatic. Why own several crappy revolvers when you can buy a S&W 586 used for $550 all day long? Used Colt automatics can be had regularly, if you are patient and a good shopper, for under $700. 2nd and 3rd tier manufacturer's guns are fine for what they are- if you're satisfied with that and that is all you can afford. I won't buy a Rock Island- even though it may be the perfect gun for you- because I am going home with it and going to immediately start part-swapping and then it will go to Bert at BPTactical. By the time it's done I've put enough money into it to have bought a better gun in the 1st place. That was really my point.

RIA's are perfect if you find one for $400 and put $100 in parts in it. I want to get a Remington 1911, for the price and made in the USA not bad. I actually had a Lorcin that fired everytime(someone gave it to me). But you get what you can afford. I hate when people get a HI-Point duracoat it, put NS on it and then want $500 on Armslist. Taurus also makes a decent 1911

Kind of wonder what you're talking about here?

Maybe they're charging by the pound? [LOL]

If you go to the Springfield Armory Geneseo website it has a lot of information about the real Springfield Armory of Massachusetts like they are the same people. SA of Geneseo acts like they can claim to be an extension of the original SA of Massachusetts. "The First Name in American Firearms" motto is an example of the Geneseo company's theft. It is like someone producing guns with the brand name of 'US Marine Corps'.
The Springfield Armory was the first United States armory. It was closed in 1968. A lot of great arms were designed and produced there.
Here is the wikipedia link to information about the real one-

Excellent point actually.
I did not even know that they were still in business, but there 1911 sucks it has a 6 pound trigger for starters, just not a good gun.
