52 degrees, light rain and fog here at 8400' on Mt Bailey. I'll take the summertime heat any time...but this is a nice change of pace. Only problem is it's just gonna get colder from here on out.

That is until we have an 85 degree day in late November.... Word is though, with all this weird weather lately, it's going to be a heavy winter... good news for those in the snow removal business!

Back from Bass Pro. Peeps can't drive in the rain and fog, can't wait till snow then we will see more morons on the roads.

According to Farmers Almanac supposed to be normal temps below normal precip for east of the divide. We will see, they were right last year.

I saw somebody try to jump it on a dirt bike once... went straight down into it, bike stopped moving when it hit the opposite slope and the rider didn't, smacked right into it. It was pretty damn funny... someone took a video of it, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Not to mention it is a dumb picture to show off a lift (it is from a site selling a lift). Hard to tell when one tire is stuffed and the other is dropped all the way.

EDIT: LOL, looks like someone forgot to stop preloading and actually pull UP.

A pic like that is good for showing off a lift because it shows how well it can flex (which ain't very well, judging from that pic). A pic of it on level ground, and the size of the tires in the pictures, should be shown as well though.

Funny, I've never seen you post pictures of your Jeeps. ;)

IFS is plenty for anything I'll ever drive on.

This guy designed some kit that links the torsion bars together and said that he was able to keep the tires on the ground better. Everyone got all excited about him selling it, then he sold his truck and dropped off the face of the earth.

I was giving you a hard time since you always seem to have really long Ford trucks.

mcantar18c
09-08-2011, 01:01
That's because I'm compensating.
And because while I love my Jeeps, I need truck beds and diesel engines to work, and need>want at this point in life.

Here's a few of them that were on my desktop...

My 79 CJ7 on 33's
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/33708_439684208963_686058963_5268331_5046633_n.jpg

My 93 XJ Cherokee on 34's. Notice all 4 tires are on the ground... I love solid axles [Tooth]....
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/68012_439684133963_686058963_5268324_3105250_n.jpg

Then there was this thing. 88 XJ on 40's. Bought it for the nice parts it had (built rear 60, Super44 front, 4:1 tcase, Detroits on both ends, suspension, beadlocks, etc.), although it was put together by somebody that didn't know how to fabricate worth a damn... as shown by their innovative use of latex house paint on the body. Stuff came up and I ended up not having the funds to cannibalize it and build something out of the parts, so I sold it.

Also in the family are a J3000 Gladiator, a J10, a FSJ Cherokee, and a couple more.

I was looking at getting a Cherokee when I bought my Amigo, but I didn't find the right Cherokee in time.

mcantar18c
09-08-2011, 01:25
Its worth selling your Amigo for. Look for a late model (97-01), a little comfier and newer looking than the earlier models... I prefer the earlier models, but that's cause I beat the hell out of them offroad and they're usually a grand or so cheaper than the late models are. Solid axles, shit simple to work on, lots of cool modifications to do to em, cheap as dirt (both the purchase price and parts) compared to the rest of the offroading world, strong following (albeit small, but growing) which = aftermarket support, and fairly comfortable.
I'll probably end up with another one somewhere down the road.

Irving

Meh, if I can't make it some where, no big deal. I don't want to be a serious rock crawler or anything because I only do that stuff on occasion anyway. I used to wheel with a guy who had one that was pretty capable. The quick disconnect sway bars up front were pretty cool.

Here it is. Not an impressive pose, but it's the only picture I still have.

Looks like a nice rig.
They're great vehicles, but honestly I don't think I'll ever build one into a crawler again... not for myself anyway. I've since graduated to the big-boy stuff, don't think an XJ could handle it...

(My buddy on Boulder Canyon in Montrose, his rig is the dark one crawling in the beginning and throughout most of the video.)

09-08-2011, 02:05
Nice. Looks like 33's on ~4" of lift, yeah?

And yeah, Van's rig was fawkin awesome. IIRC a bit under 400hp, completely custom tube chassis, coilovers, 40" tires, 60s front and rear, full hydro, all the goodies. Could be wrong though, been a while since I've played with it, he sold it to some guy in California a while back. Another one is on the way though.
Can't wait till I have the time and funds to build mine.

BTW, Carnage is in Bueno Vista (and there was another Carnage in Boulder but the greenies shut it down). Boulder Canyon is in Montrose. Different trails... although Carnage BV is a damn fun trail too, I think have pics from it floating around my hard drive somewhere...

mcantar18c
09-08-2011, 02:11
Oh BTW, the red buggy that pops onto the screen around 3:20... that's his kids rig. Think he's a freshman or sophomore in highschool by now, and his rig is built meaner than his dad's is (who built it for him). Lucky f*ckin kid.

Irving
09-08-2011, 07:23
I think that was about right for that Jeep. I'm thinking it was closer to 6" of lift though. I meant the Carnage in Boulder that was shut down.
