View Full Version : Civil War Buffs - There's an App for That!
I've really been enjoying an app I got for my iPad called "The Civil War Today". It's by the History channel and it's basically today's news from the civil war. It goes through 2015 with daily updates and it's a fantastic wealth of information.
I'm a big civil war buff and have spent years studying it, if you are as well then I would highly recommend this app!

My dad still remembers the parades in Boston with some of the remaining Civil War Vets. ...they were the same age as he is now as my dad is now one of the few WWII vets still out there.
Being a Southern Boy I have the civil war rooted in my DNA :). I still have the stars and bars flying (albeit in my recording studio and not in front of my house).

Grandma says I'm a direct descendent of General Lee... (Well - that kinda gives away my full name...)

I am a Colorado guy. However, seeing the state of the country 146 years after it ended, I side with the south. [Beer]

I helped out at a cemetery the last few years gearing up for memorial day, and its pretty cool to go around and look at all the old headstones of civil war/WW1 vets.
Its sad to see an iconic generation competely gone.

While the issues have changed, the core problem is still the same - the federal government telling the states what they can and cannot do. The difference is now it's done via funding rather than direct mandates - blackmail: "if you take this $100B then you will have to permit gay marriage" kind of back room politics.
Something that always is interesting about the first civil war is that I honestly believe a second will come in my lifetime and much of what we learn about the first will be just as valid in the second.
