Hey
I cannot seem to find any good opinions, info, etc on a original detonics mk6 combat master. I like the odd looks so I bought one at what I think was a steal. I like it as a carry gun.

Opinions welcome on them. Experiences?
Thanks

Are you referring to Pat Yates and Sid Woodcock's gun of Detonics USA, founded in the 1970's or the current or recent past Detonics?

Original Detonics Combat Master were pieces of art and function.
It was what John Mosses Browning wish he invented instead of the loose fitting 1911's
If you couldn't get a Detonics you could at least install a Detonics kit in your series 70 Colt and make it work like one!

In 2004 Jerry Ahern purchased the name and started making Detonics.
His contribution was the 9-11-01 which was a modified 1911 with "improvements"

In 2007 Dr. Steve Stahle and Bruce Siddle purchased Detonics as Detonics Defense and is in the R&D phase of a new pistol; the Detonics DTX

If I could find an original that would be my choice of firearms in the bunch.

Yes I picked up an original one from WA. I like it a lot. Someone mentioned they are designed to be carried hammer down. I am a condition one only guy with any 1911. Without a grip safety... Haha. Love this detonics

I can't remember if it was Mack Bolan or John Thomas Rourke who always carried a pair of detonics in shoulder holsters.

I'm pretty sure it was John Thomas Rourke.

anyone else from the 80's remember?

Wow, those are a couple of names that I haven't heard in a long time.

To the OP, PM Captain Porzak for information on Detonics, he has a fetish about them. [LOL]

Mack Bolan carried an Auto Mag and a Beretta. I read all of those books back in the 70's.

Pretty sure it was Rourke, Bolan favored the .44 AutoMag and the Beretta 93R. But one of Bolan's nemesis favored the Detonics, Gerry Axelrod I think it was. How the hell do I remember that? Also, Sonny Crockett ankle-carried one as his backup on Miami Vice, for the first couple seasons while he was packing the Bren Ten at least.

I have a early build, I have read and my experience shows that a light 200 grain or less bullet works better then heavy bullets.
Its a issue of the high slide velocity and cartridge weight and the ability of the magazine spring to push the next round up in time for the slide to catch and control the new round.
