I want to get a .308 AR but not sure which one. I looked at a DPMS today and it seemed like a very nice rifle. Any thoughts on barrel length, sights ect. Will problably use it for gophers and long range target shooting. Once I save up for the rifle I will most likely save again to get a Leupold 14x or greater.

Thanks

I've seen the DPMS and they are nice. I've also heard that the chamber is tight and makes the rifle very picky on what it shoots, plus the barrels are not chrome lined. I think the magazine is better, and price is optimal. However, I prefer Armalites: more experience w/the .308, easier to obtain parts, not too picky on ammo, and chromed barrels. Barrel length would be great at 18"; not too short/long. I like the 16" for size, but feel I lose a lot of performance from the .308. 20" are great for distance, and some 24-26" out there can castrate flys at a distance quite easily. Sights? Personal pref again. I have IOR Valdada on one, Springfield Govt on another.
