So, have a question and I think I have the answer, but I thought I would ask some of you folks.
I have a friend of mine, who is recently out of prison after nearly ten years (yeah, yikes, I know) with a felony record.
Would there be any issues for him hanging out with me while I'm carrying? What about if he comes by my house, and I have guns in the house? I wouldn't let him ever handle them BTW.

what the law doesn't know won't hurt you.
But if they find out you are seriously Fucked.
I won't sit here and tell you what to do or not do.

I thought as long as I'm in possession at all times, it was fine. I'm not loaning him guns, taking him shooting, etc.
It would be just me carrying when we are hanging out. I haven't carried when hanging out because I wasn't sure

Depending on the conditions of his release, he may not be allowed to be around firearms and if so, would violate his conditions and may be sent back. I can't see any issues for you, but there certainly can be for him.

see, the problem with the law is that you have to try and predict how every cop and DA *MIGHT* interpret it.
Access... same room?
Same house?
if you step into another room can he grab it?
no-expert so this is not legal advice...
I would think...
Guns locked up in a safe where he cannot have access to them = you should be ok (not just a cable lock)
For you loosing your CCW = I don't see how that is possible.
From the way I read it.
If it's on your person it's in your control.
Guns behind locked doors (of a car or a house or a safe) are considered secured.
Being in the same room with an unsecured gun would be a very bad idea for him and the gun owner.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing a bit of it has to do with the terms of his release.
I'd say if it's on your person, you're ok. A lot depends on the conditions of his release: Parole, probation, etc. Until you know for sure what the conditions of his release are, better to err on the side of caution.
DANGERTASTIC!

If you dont put yourself in that situation in the first place then you have nothing to worry about.
I have friends that were locked up for awhile...I prefer them NOT to be in my house around my wife and kid in the first place. If they dont understand then fuck em. Im not gonna explain it to them.

Agreed, better to err on the side of caution.
The side of caution being, if you're going to be around a convicted felon, WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER BEING UNARMED?!
That said, this is the best option....

Understand your point there, and he's not a friend I'm worried about being around my family. I'm not worried about him stealing, taking my guns, or anything like that. If it was someone that I was worried about that with, I don't think they would be my friend if I couldn't trust them with any of that. I don't think just because someone has a felony record that they are bad, but, depending on the person and the crime...well...
I think the real concern is going to be the circumstances in which the LEO finds out about the guns and the convicted felon. I'm personally not judging anyone but how will a judge or jury view my defense in a shooting if I was in the situation with a convicted fellon?

Maybe he wouldnt physically "Take" them, but being in your home period, would that jeopardize you losing your weapons if anyone found out?
Having a convicted felon around your family and weapons, if youre willing to take that risk thats up to you.
The guy I work for now did prison time because his "friend" had a gun and he was in the same vehicle. Just for being in the SAME VEHICLE
The other thing I would keep in mind is that your friend is not the same guy that went into prison 10 years ago. What you might have trusted him with 10 years ago you might want to rethink for the present.
You are not under any legal liability for his parole or finished sentence. However HE IS. Like many others have said do you really want him in your house and around your kids? Maybe, maybe not, but that is your reponsibily to your family.
