Of course you have! Doing a Google search for your name was so 5 years ago. Try doing a search on Youtube for your name. Interesting results. Now you can see what that guy who shares your name looks like. Or girl, if your name is Kelly.

When I used to Google my name it would come up with some German Brain surgeon.

Youtube yields nothing but folks with the same last name and...oh look! A lecture by that same doctor!

Did you try just first and last? Sometimes you have to read the descriptions to see why that video was brought up. Youtube your friends with better names if nothing comes up for you. ;)

Yes and it is a pain in the ass to stay anonymous these days. Takes a lot of work and effort to stay out of searches and databases. I prefer to be a ghost whenever possible but info on most people is very easy to find on the net. Places like SPOKEO you can dig up all kinds of info on someone. You can search by name, email addy's phone numbers, usernames, known friends, known addresses etc. Luckily they also have an opt out option but also let you only delete a couple hits per email address so if you are trying to remove your whole family is can become some work to do so.

And so what's wrong with the name Kelly? Even if I'm a guy? Hmmm? Punk. [ROFL1]

Google your phone numbers now and then too, your email address etc. Then do what you can to clear it off the records. I've been doing this for a few years with good success. Don't put in your screen name from here, everything turns up!

When I google my name, first thing that comes up is some guy that writes self-help books and until recently lived in Austin Texas (now he lives in Denver). In Austin he was also a real estate agent.

Second guy I find is the Housing Ombudsman for some British university.

Third guy is a College LaCrosse player who is apparently good enough to get mentioned online a lot.

Fourth guy is a Cop in New Jersey.

Only thing that shows up that is actually me is a hit on my LinkedIn profile.

Hell, more stuff about me pops up when you google "Zundfolge". Honestly I like it that way.

Of course if you want to feel insignificant, go here http://howmanyofme.com/

The other day I Googled my name and it had an address listing for my street address, minus the house number. A previous phone number, minus the last 4 digits, some information that was ballpark close, and some that was totally bogus. If you pay $$ to the site that provided the info, you could get the rest of my listing. Yikes.

Yup.

I recently got a new job. While I was interviewing, the lady I was talking to on the phone had a question that threw me off guard a bit...partial transcript below

Lady - "So, you're a dancer, huh?"
Me - "uh, uh, no, where did you get that idea?"
Lady - "Saw a picture of you online."

I started to freak when she said this. I am NOT a dancer of any sort and the only dancing I have ever done was while VERY, VERY drunk. I got to worrying that someone had posted some party pics of me...entirely possible. So when we got off the phone I went straight to Google. First thing that popped up with my name is a guy dancing...but not me. It was some tool wearing ballet shoes doing the splits in mid air. Almost worse than her seeing a party pic of me is her thinking I am a ballet dancer. I explained that the picture wasn’t me the next time we talked and later got the job.

Moral of the story. It is a must that you Google yourself to make sure there is nothing crazy that someone else has posted about you, especially if looking for a new job. Almost ALL employers now google candidates and look them up on Facebook and such. Clear your name, remove any public pictures and do so often. You never know if a friend will post a compromising picture of you that can cost you your dream job.

I like the Google search better - it comes up with the same "hippie" lawyer as YouTube, but it also shows a movie stunt man. At least stuntmen get to play with guns!!!
