Howdy all,

I'll be arriving in the Springs area in about a week and am starting to scout out the shooting opportunities. After living in FL for the past 10 years (although originally from AZ), I'm looking forward to living in the mountains.

I'm also looking forward to doing some shooting someplace other than a range. Don't get me wrong, ranges have their place but I've always been a "load up the truck and go shoot stuff in the woods" kinda guy (and yes, I pack out more than I bring). I understand the need to keep these sites protected from idiots but will hopefully develop a contact or two around here that will be willing to point out a informal range or two.

As far as AR's, I've got the required 16" CQB with multi-colored furniture as well as a 20" Varmint model (both built on Spike's lowers) as well as a pile of other hardware.

I have two main firearm related goals while in CO and I'm looking forward to picking the brains of you and other like-minded individuals to help me achieve them:
- Learn to reload
- Get serious into hunting (did lots of Dove and occasional Javalina hunts in AZ but no big game)

Anyways, I look forward to chatting with you guys in the future, swapping lies, and maybe even hardware in the classifieds section (I've got my next 5 purchases decided on so I'll definitely have my eye on that forum ;) ).

Which part (I was in the Melbourne/Cocoa Beach area) and how long did it take to get acclimated to the strange white sand falling out of the sky? :)

Welcome to the Springs. Did ya get a job transfer?

Yep. The benefits of being gainfully employed.

Nope, wasn't me. I won't actually be arriving until the 20th or so. I'm currently hanging out with family down in AZ for a little bit. It's been hovering around 100* here and I saw it was 47* in CO Springs the other night. It ought to be an interesting climate swap.

Welcome.

Yep, it's looking to be another COLD and (hopefully because we always need the moisture) snowy winter.

Be sure to practice your driving skills in the snow/ice in an abandoned LARGE parking lot. It pays off when you get on the road.

I've never lived in an icy/snowy environment but I've spent significant amounts of time in the Arctic Circle. I'm familiar with driving in it. With that said, I'm definitely not taken my minimal experience for granted. I plan on taking it nice and easy for awhile and doing just as you suggested with an empty parking lot.

It's gonna be fun!!!!

So is that an average winter snow or on the heavy/light side?

That would be a pretty good snow storm now days. Black forrest, Monument and the north end of town usually gets double the snow that Security and Fountain on the south end gets. [Help]

I live up on the north/east part of the Springs and the amount of snow shown in that pic is about what we got last year - total/cumulative for all of the times it snowed, not per snow. It was a VERY dry year last year.

So what part of town you live in?

I'm on the west side (Pleasant Valley, just north of Old Colorado City and south of the Rock Ledge Ranch).

We don't get nearly as much snow as they get in the north and east parts of town.

Welcome to Colorado.....This is on the far South end of Colorado (Trinidad) but our Winter storms are not "ALWAYS" like this.[Tooth]

I'll be down in the SE area, by the airport.

It was good to meet you today Bob. Based on your picture of Trinidad and the previous pic that was posted, this ought to be an interesting season for me. :)

Bob's pic reminds me more of my time in Massachusetts than what I'm used to here in the Springs...then again, there was that Blizzard of '97 that totally DUMPED on us (making the snow in Bob's pic look like the result of a simple flurry).
