Evening of Sept. 11th just before dark, I filled my buck tag with my fitty cal Thompson Center Hawkens. Buck was a 4x4 that was 18" tall and 21" wide. Guessing that since he was bigger than me by quite a bit he weighed in the 250 lb range. Bullet was a home cast 250 grain Lee R.E.A.L. conical. Hit him kind of high but he dropped on the spot. Bullet broke one rib, spine was bone frags, and broke a rib on the other side. Hide finally stopped the bullet on the off side. Recovered bullet weighs 176 grains. Not bad for a pure lead bullet that smashed a lot of bone in the process.

Finally got the entire deer in the freezer last night. Processing it myself this year. Ton of work and I HATE silver skin. Going to make jerky and lots of sausage. Pretty surprised how tender this deers meat is. Had to be careful removing the back straps because they just wanted tear apart if handled ruff. MMM....can't wait that's going to be some damn good steaks. Also my hunting partner killed a doe and she didn't have an ounce of fat on her body. My buck had a layer of fat over 1" thick in some places. Both deer were about to pop they were so full of grass and aspen.
Try and post pics tonight.

Thats great, I filled mine the next night. My buddy was trying to reach me by radio to come help him pull his down the mountain. I couldnt answer because I was to busy trying to pull my buck up! It was a good day. Didn't take any pics of the buck, but I can take one of my freezer! But here is a pic of a Bullwinkle Moose that was cruising our area.

We ran into quite a few, he was the biggest with the most impressive rack. There were others that compared in body size but not by racks. We were muzzleloading in GMU 15.

Congrats's

I tried to fill mine opening day but muffed the shot up, went back out Friday to the same spot. This time I hunted up on them and the buck was standing where I was sitting when I missed.

Friend seems like he is never going to e-mail me my pics so I'm going to have wife at least take some pics of the skull and rack. Want to European mount it. It's been fleshed, but haven't had time to boil and get it really clean.

Also BBQ some back strap the other night and OMG!! This is the best tasting deer I've ever brought home. Tender and tasty. It has to be the fact that it was grass fed from the Hayman burn area.

I do have a picture I took on my cell phone of the deer hanging. Cool picture I think cause it's just of the head/rack and the sun is almost set. Anyone here know how to get it from phone to forum? Maybe I could text it to a more tec savy person.
