Did any one see Saturday's Dateline on 'self defence'? It concerened a man who had a CCW out in the woods. Wow!

Any comments?

Like some of the training and books I have read, you might be in the right but rest assured that you must convince a jury of that...

Well, man walking on trail, CCW with. Other man with two dogs was on trail. Dogs charge at man with CCW. CCW man shoots warning shot at dogs. Dog owner charges at CCW man. CCW man shoots and kills dog owner.

Dog owner’s character is considered explosive and violent when it came to dogs. CCW man was a fine law abiding citizen.

Jury puzzled why CCW man had a gun ‘more powerful’ than cops [10mm vs. cop’s 9mm] and why in the world he would have deadly hollow points.

Any way CCW man was convicted of 2nd degree murder charges!

I could see the bias and ignorance by non gun owners.

I acquitted the CCW man in my judgment and was aghast at his conviction. Many other factors came into play but…. It could happen to you! [Me]

Well, some of the non-gun owners in the jury brought up that issue. And the prosecutor made the CCW holder out to be this gun toting bad guy with big guns and big ammo designed just to kill people.

Some in the jury bought that...

I think that had a bearing on the conviction......

Then again, what do I know....

I was just trying, in a few sentences to state all of the one hour show...

Guess I did not do that... so, if you have seen the show.....

Important detail - it happened in Arizona, and their laws on the topic changed around after this went to trial. Not sure how to look up what the particulars were at the time of the event.

Short version would be that the "reasonable" jurors would have acted differently in the same situation  Some of the relevant news stories (with the usual problems journalists have with details) were posted on various forums back when it happened.

Intent - guy runs towards a drawn weapon after hearing a shot, yelling

Ability - obvious difference in age, 15-20 years

Opportunity - it was on a narrow and hilly trail, but I don't recall who was where

my comments were in reference to the jury... mind boggling!

If I remeber correctly the man with the dogs had a screw driver in his hand but that detail was not allowed in the trial.

Also it was questioned why he would fire warning shots at dogs but not at a person.

I saw it and it sparked an arguement between my wife and I. She is one of the uninformed and refuses to be informed. I did try to explain to her why he shot center of mass and why he carries hollow points. I wish I could say that I was astounded by the jury but, after all, I am from Kalifornia. Nothing about antigun people ever surprise me.
