View Full Version : Anyone own an AR-50 in CO?
Been eyeballing something in 50 BMG for a long while and I was curious if anyone owned an AR-50 and planned on shooting it sometime this fall. Seems like an AR-50 is a nice compromise between price and accuracy. No need for semi-auto, have no plans of disabling cars with it.. yet [LOL]
Anywho, just thought I'd ask before I start lurking at 1,000 yard ranges to see if 50 BMG is what I want or if I just want another bolt-action rifle in something besides 17HMR and .223.

Not me, but there is one for sale in the "Firearms for Sale" section
I don't have one, but a feller let me fire three rounds out of his. Hot damn that was a hoot! I'd be likin' to have me one o' those.
I have one.. and I'm pretty sure DSB is gonna hump it when he sees it.
It's fun for sure :)
Not sure I'll be taking her out anytime soon.. but I'd love to. I need to punch holes in some steel.
She's just sitting in my closet lookin all sexy and lonely... damn.. [Tooth]
I used to have one. It was great for the money. Shot great! Just huge and heavy even for a 50. I believe some more ergonomic stocks have hit the market in recent years. Mcrees??
I sold it off for a Tac-50 a few years back and still regret doing it to this day.
There are cheaper options if you just want a 50.

Saw the .50 BMG Bohica upper equipped AR-15. Not quite what I want. Lots of decent 50 BMG uppers on the market if that's your thing.

Pretty much my sentiment. I've shot only 2 rounds out of a Barrett M99 and that got me thinking.
i had one, but sold it in the spring. i miss it.
Hear that a lot. I'll have to make sure I can afford to feed it.

I thought the original stock on the AR-50 looked decent but I haven't actually shot an AR-50 so who knows. Thanks for the info, investigating more.

True but I don't just want a 50 to own a 50. I want a 50 that'll let me actually leverage the round instead of blasting steel at 200-300 yards. I'd like to blast steel at 1,000 AND I want a 50.. thinking I can combine two rifles in one.
I still remember seeing the original ads for the AR-50 that said they included a bottle of Tylenol with every gun purchased. Gotta love the humor there. Sweet gun imo. Would love to own one myself ... not sure about the AR-Bohica series - been researching that one a lot since that ad came out in the forums... don't think I can afford the chiropractor fees trying to operate a .50 in that rifle weight lol. Seems the traditional AR-50 would absorb the shock a bit better but just a guess on that one.

How about a Beauwolf Upper? I might have to get one of them to put on my LMT lower. Pretty cool guns.

Recently I saw a few for sale and started looking at them a little harder since I've been wanting something big and bad. Unfortunately the Beowulf .50 and the BMG .50 are nothing alike.

Make sure you do your homework on the round first. Sadly there are a lot of drawbacks and it's not an alternative to .50 bmg. I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad round with no purpose but it's got pretty similar range and ballistics to a 12ga slug. You can get three 870's for the cost of a cheaper beowulf upper without the hassle of scrounging ammo.
